As much as I've got confidence in Paul Cook and understand what he is trying to do I think that if I were in Downes position I would feel like I was being treated like a 5 year old and patronised beyond belief and it would make me want out even more.
Surely an arm around the shoulder and telling him he's a fantastic player and we really want and need him to be a part of the new rebuild and promotion push would have a better effect than sticking him with the U23s and making him feel like a little kid?? |  | | |

He’s offered those players an olive branch, it’s over to them if they want to grab it and react in the right way. If not, then they need to accelerate their moves out of the club’s door. I know some might think PC is treating them harshly, but it’s his way to see who really wants it enough? It’s clear PC wants players committed to the club, how many of these players want it, have that fire in their belly to prove their worth and show PC was wrong with his initial assessment? The main observation I took out of that interview was Cooks significant protuberance nasal wise. 
Aside from that, from the official tweets and the interview Cook demands higher standards of fitness and dedication than previously. He also addressed some concerns on here that the door is ajar for those who want to grab it. Along with more signings incoming. |  | | |

Before I felt like I was being treated like a 5 year old I’d take a good look in the mirror and ask how I got in that position.
Cook seems to be trying to get them to take some responsibility for themselves and their careers. It would seem that Dobra has done just that. There is nothing wrong in making demands on people. Arm round the shoulder, telling them how good they are etc is for another time, not now.

I've got plenty of faith in Cook and I really hope I'm wrong, but I've got a nagging feeling we're going to see the "bomb squad" players still under contract that nobody wants to buy rather conveniently having shown enough desire to be back in the frame as the weeks wear on.
We've cleared out 27 players that we could either release or get a price for, and we've only brought in six on permanent deals and one loanee. Five weeks until we're underway, we're still short of half a team, the "three, four, five" deals Ashton was on about the other week clearly didn't happen, and now we're sounding out Cook's old guard and potentially bringing in loans. Has he been a bit overzealous with the axe?
