It won't even need that. The Corbynites can't have the evil Keir Starmer do well, as it destroys their narrative.

Is Starmer doing well? Serious question. As I think he’s been awful (dishonest, unprincipled and incompetent) and offers a terrible choice for the country. This is the Tories doing even worse than before.

He's definitely the least bad option. I don't mind Starmer tbf, just lacks that killer edge

Hmmm. Although Lambert would have been the least bad option compared to Hurst – or maybe not! Similarly, Starmer is part of the problem, taking us further down the same path. Anyway it’ll be a few years until the next election and hopefully there’ll be more of an alternative with more political integrity and vision before then. For Scotland, there already is: the least bad option is to get shot of Westminster entirely if it’s a choice between Johnson and Starmer.

Labour leading a voting opinion poll for the first time in like forever on 18:07 - Nov 11 with 1862 views | Swansea_Blue | You're forgetting the last 2 elections when they absolutely smashed it, apparently 2017 was their biggest win ever, or something. I'm not getting too excited about these polls. And ultimately it's pretty depressing that so many people are likely to still vote for a party that's done so much damage to the UK's reputation, economic prospects and public services; that's shown such disregard for our institutions of democracy; who's PM, Ministers and MPs regularly gaslight and lie to the House and to the public; who appear to be so out of touch with a lot of the people it's supposed to represent; who are blatantly corrupt; and who show no compassion or even acknowledge their duty to safeguard vulnerable people in our own country and others. WTF is wrong with people?

I voted for Starmer in the leadership election and have been a supporter of him, especially at the start of his tenure. However, he has been, in the most part really poor. He does suffer from the fact that there is no real accountability or consequence for the tories actions. But he is far too wooden, not a great public speaker and incredibly forgettable. Indeed. As well as welcoming islamophobes, and tolerating anti-BAME racism, misogyny and transphobia among staff and cabinet allies. Coupled with lukewarm policies that mirror Boris’s token levelling up and social/environmental justice (but really protect the establishment and donor interests), where’s the difference between them and the Tories? Deeply uninspiring and ultimately disturbing stuff.

Really? Or is that just a spun position from those on the left of the party? (sorry, rephrased that as it was a tad confrontational!) [Post edited 11 Nov 2021 18:55]

Pay attention to modern politics Koont. Least bad is the new good for voting. Political influence these days is much more focussed around who can slag someone off the best. Trump convinced people that Hillary was a criminal, Boris convinced people the Corbyn was the devil, Leave.Eu convinced people we were escaping Turkey... Long gone are the days when MPs were singing their own praises and Thatcher had us salivating like a no strings attacthed Timeshare deal.

I don’t expect people to share my view. But I think people should see how we’re heading in a bad direction as a country and one which the current opposition will do little to change. They’re not offering a positive alternative for many millions of people in the UK. And certainly not addressing the challenges of now and the future. In any case, a platform that is “A Bit Better than the Tories” won’t win an election either. But no, that’s not spun. It’s all true. [Post edited 11 Nov 2021 19:54]

I agree, tbh. Indeed, Stamer's new 'Future Candidates' list of prospective MP candidates has selected only Starmer loyalists (ie Blairites) to be selected. Obviously you know this but maybe others don't, but this list was described as "Not being factional." by the person who eventually decided on it (ally of Mandleson, who, let's not forget said he would 'Fight every day to remove Corbyn as leader'), Morgan McSweeney. The new leadership are making it extremely clear to social democrats/democratic socialists like me and Koonts than we are simply not welcome. Well, guess what? Those of you who stuck you noses up at the Corbyn leadership will now find many of your former 'comrades' (har har), in the unions and elsewhere jumping ship to the Greens or other parties since you refuse to listen to our views and instead try to neuteur us. That’s bubble politics though. The biggest changes and shifts in recent years have come from politicians who have offered something else and something positive, whether it be the unevidenced nonsense of Farage and UKIP or the proven social democracy of Labour under Corbyn. Boris tapped into the Farage nonsense and probably will again. The response to that is NOT an establishment-loving technocratic manager like Starmer who is only offering managed decline rather than chaotic decline.

Exactly. The Labour right are deeply disturbing, authoritarian people who fetishise money, power and influence for their own sakes. I actually think most Tories have a stronger value system even if I disagree with it. The Labour Party and politics is just a vehicle for them that will pay well if they angle it back towards the establishment. I’d go so far to say they are some of the worst people in politics and that’s including Galloway, Farage, Robinson and various swivel-eyed Tory backbenchers.

Just look at the principled leftists Berger and Umunna whose views we were supposed to take very seriously indeed as members on the left of the party! Where are they now? Oh yeah, promoting the benefits of Brexit and greenwashing for the oil and gas industry. Who'd a thunk it!

Yep. And this is the big problem with many so-called centrists and the centrist media that pretends to be serious about this stuff. They don’t actually care. Because they like politicians who respond to corporate interests before ordinary people as that will benefit them as individuals. They’ll wring their hands and moan about the Tories and talk about serious, forensic opposition. But real serious, forensic opposition would demand that they pay more tax and prioritise others rather than themselves and their property/share portfolio.
