JJ was also struggling.
Thank goodness MOTM Burgess and an imperious Walton were never going to let them in… indeed I’m not sure they were ever going to really threaten
Then second half… which started with some truly woeful refereeing (which actually fired up our fans - FINALLY!)… Morsy went up a gear, Harness continued to be brilliant and Ladapo and Chaplin changed the game…

Quality of the bench
But one final point - McKenna won’t stick around if we’re playing in those terrible grounds, with lottery refs, and route one teams… but i feel he wants to be the one to get us out of this low level… a level we should be at… but we have to FIGHT to get out of it

We did everything we needed to comfortably win another difficult match. Accrington had drawn every one of their home matches this season. We have only conceded 4 league goals all season. 4 clean sheets out of 7 and averaging 2 goals for per match.
McKenna knew what he signed up for. He knows what these grounds are all about. He is a thorough analyst. He is not a manager who thinks he is too good to be at this level and managing against these teams.
If we go up, McKenna's stock improves and he is ready for the challenge of the Championship with us. If we don't go up, McKenna will have failed and he won't be walking into a better job. He is here for the long haul as long as he continues to succeed. |  |

I felt we controlled the game as best as you could have at a place like Accrington, think we had over 60% possession, whilst ensuring we matched them off the ball.
I know many don't rate jackson, and yes he missed a chance, but he was excellent uptop and his press disrupted their backline on many occasions and gradually the pockets of space opened up. |  |

They man marked us across the pitch, which left us a spare centre back only
To say Morsy was excellent first half is wrong, BUT I agree he did become more influential towards the end
And really got stuck in second half… with some great input

Darth, think people are getting my thoughts wrong
First half they literally marked us man for man, the ref was appalling, and we just couldn’t get it going
But I agree we had fight throughout and didn’t let them bully us
Once we started to break out of their press and marking, Morsy grew into the game and then second half Chaplin and Ladapo started to burst them… it was great
But it was an awful first half, with an awful ref
But the main point is we beat Accy despite the situation/ and we never did that to date | |

Ref wasn't great, but he wasn't awful. Far better than the ref last week, even if he didn't get every correct. For this league, ref had a par performance and we need to accept this standard of reffing and work with it. |  |

‘Truly awful game….’
I didn’t see it - was listening to Brenner. I presume you did see it? What I heard was a game in which we had to work hard in and battle to get a foothold in it. In my opinion that doesn’t make it awful.
What I heard KM say was that in the first half AS didn’t play the way he expected them to - so the tactics and set up we used weren’t as effective as he hoped. That doesn’t make it awful, it just makes it a struggle. Morsey was manmarked - then credit to him and the others that they overcame that and went on to win.
Let’s just be fair and say that Ascci came into the spaghetti with a game plan, and for a while it worked. Credit to them. That doesn’t make us bad or awful. But it does mean we have to give credit to the manager and the players for adapting and eventually imposing themselves on the game and coming out as winners. For the last few seasons that would not have happened. | |
