Think he'd be a good signing, but another right footer when ideally you want a left footer (who are much harder to find!)

How much do you really think a right foot - left foot centre back pairing is essential? I'm not so sure it matters if you have quality.

Everyone talks about Mads Andersen, but I've quite liked the look of Liam Kitching whenever I've seen him play. Has some Championship experience with Barnsley, he's left footed, and he's a decent size but also pretty capable with the ball at his feet. Thought he was excellent in the play off final yesterday.

Not sure about McGuiness to be sure as previous post said Kitching has played well, But maybe a Mat Clarke type would be a better fit only concern injury record,

I’m not so sure about the left footer preference. Depends what we are buying. If we’re looking to swap Burgess out then sure it’s better. If we’re buying for options I’m not so sure. Wolfie is very right sided and to my memory never really looked ideal on the left, Burgess the opposite to Woolfie. Edmundson seem ok either side but injuries a worry so I’d say ideally you want someone who can play with either Woolfie or Burgess…for some reason two right footers seems to work more often than two left footers…imagining Smith and Berra playing out, ouch.

I'm not sure 'thats different because it was us and I'm upset because people are enjoying themselves' is a wholly sturdy defence mate.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Not a factor in a lot of Championship / League One defensive partnerships, but absolutely vital when you are playing in the system we are.

It requires playing in some very tight spaces and being extremely good on the ball. Hard enough to do on your strong side.

We've all seen Edmundson, a very capable defender, get taught out on so many occasions in possession in this system when being asked to play on his weak side.

I think 90% of those giving the ball away or being caught in possession situations don't happen to him if he was playing in Wolf's place rather than in the role Burgess now has.

Think I heard we didn’t concede a single goal from a defensive possession lapse last season.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I think that's true in the League. Harper's horrific ball across the box to the Colchester player in the EFL Cup counts though I think

I’ll be honest with you and say I don’t think any of our CB’s will be strong enough next season . Out of the three (Burgess, Edmundson, Woolfie), the only one that is a “safe CB” (I’m talking defending here not a role of bringing a ball a few yards out defence before passing 5 yards forward), would be Burgess. I’d sell Edmundson and probably Woolfie too. Which I appreciate don’t go down well with a lot on here. We are going to need far better “ defenders” in my humble view.

We’ve been playing using the strengths of our CBS, Burgess is very good in the air, Woolfenden is quite measured in cutting stuff out. Both have shown to be more than capable with the ball at their feet and that’s because the rest of the team give them an early option and also work hard before it gets as far as them.

Including Fridge, all are capable at Championship level.

Where the margins will be tight will be unlocking defences and scoring with less chances afforded.

Not upset, just entirely baffled as to how someone could have watched us this season and concluded that Woolf isn't good enough for us. Thankfully I can't see McKenna reaching the same conclusion as you.

I’m pretty sure it didn’t hold back Butcher and Osman, if I’m remembering them right. But then pigeon-holing Osman as a right footer is probably unfair. He was a seriously underrated player who was comfortable with both feet. So much do 8mm struggling to remember if his tight or left was his dominant foot! In a way he was ahead of his time and would have been ideally suited to the modern footballing CB role.

So yeah, quality over ‘footedness’ every time imo.

Butcher was a left footed player and Osman was right footed if I recall correctly and I may well not do but equally I’m sure if it hadn’t been the case they’d have coped just fine as you say!

None of our CBs have Champ experience, so fair comment. And the quality of the press will be higher than in L1.

I would expect serious upgrades across the team will be needed and CBs could see a lot more change than many expect.

Would hope to see LW given the chance to step up. Fridge (injuries) and Burgess (pace+) have a lot to prove.
