Most "at risk" from the starting XI 14:06 - Jun 20 with 4076 viewsitfc_bucks

I'm bored, let me start with that.

Who do you think is the player most at risk of being replaced in the transfer window? I'm caught between Luongo probably being the most obvious candidate, but I also think Burns must be in that convo too.

Despite what seemed to be the prevailing opinion of the loons behind me in the SAR(L) at the end of last season, I think Burgess and Wolfie looked quite the pairing.

Thoughts?

Technicality - wasn't a starter at the end of the season, but I'll grant it as he probably would be a starter right now.

Burgess and Luongo for me (excluding the number 9 as it won't be Freddie), but all of them bar Walton, Davis, broadhead, Chaplin and probably just about Morsy are at risk

Considering Luongo has signed another deal rather than go back to oz I think he'd only do that again if he felt he would be playing.

Burns will end up back up.

Burgess.. Will play when his head is needed.

I would agree with Luongo. He did brilliantly since he came in, but I can't see him being a long term solution next to Morsy. I would also add:

Burgess
Clarke
Burns

I think Wesley might be a very useful bench option, he has blistering pace that against tiring defences could cause havoc.

The only ones I think are safe are probably Walton, Davis, Woolfenden, Morsy, Broadhead and Chaplin. There's 6 there that will surely be the preferred options at least until January or until they show otherwise.

Clarke might be a controversial one but I think he's got a lot to prove still.

....and potentially Clarke and Wolf.

I think that if we can get the recruitment done we are looking at:

Walton

New RB or Clarke
New CB or Wolf
New CB
Davis

New CM
Morsy

New RW
Chaplin
Broadhead

New CF

Burgess, Luongo, Burns and Ladapo. These four will still have an important role to play though.

Don't think many more will be 'upgraded' this summer. January we will.

Appreciate I'm in the minority here but, in the best possible way, I'm not yet convinced Morsy is our best midfielder. Their contacts are now set to expire on the same date - Morsy getting a further extension this summer may point to McKenna being confident in his own mind of the pecking order. Otherwise and without McKenna stating differently, I think Luongo has the opportunity in pre-season to move ahead.

I think we'll be looking to provide Burns with stiffer competition for sure.

I'd be surprised if we look to replace either Clarke or especially Wolf.

Wolf just fits our system so well.

Not controversial, just misguided. Why extend Donacien's contract by a year and spend 1m+ on Clarke if you plan on getting someone better?

Don't get me wrong, I think we could bring in someone as first choice in any position, if they are available and affordable. But I don't see RB as an area we are actively targeting this window.

Not a regular one, but a starter none the less, I think we could be seeing the last of Donacien, if we can recruit someone of proven Championship standard who's as versatile.

Nah, even in the January window he said he was happy to play his part as a squad player. I think he'd be happy to be a back up that is rotated and actively used as a sub.

I'd be surprised if we dropped a Mill on Clarke in Jan to then bin him off 6 months later.

I am leaving striker aside, we clearly need 1-2 players here depending on how we deal with Freddie and Gas this summer. In the course of the next 2-3 windows, I would say this summer potentially Burgess, Luongo, and Burns. I’m not absolutely certain that we are looking to rock things that much this summer. In the course of the next 12 months, we might also be looking at a sale or two, that potentially brings Wolf, Leif, Broadhead into focus but not this summer from a trading perspective.

Janoi, as I can see us getting better cover there and him dropping down the pecking order.

Harness.

And Freddie, as he wasn't number 1 in League 1 (but can still play a role, obviously).

I don't think we'll be seeing the mass changes that one or two are expecting.

I guess nobody knows obviously the fringe players . Then players who never play enough games through injury, and the two or three who just aren't good enough. Ruthless will be a word we will describe it in a month or two, like Kyle Walker outstanding v Real Madrid in the semi final But dropped for the final this is what hungry Ruthless managers / clubs do to win win win

Wow this thread is pretty insulting to a fantastic team who got over 100 goals and nearly 100 points, why the sudden downgrade on so many of them? If we started the first game with the existing squad I wouldn't be worried, I think most of them are players who will be even more effective in the Championship than League 1 and many of them are only going to get better next season. Talk about thanks but goodbye, harsh...

I think the end of season starting XI would do ok in the Championship with more than 600 championship appearances between them and amazing fitness levels. The squad however, is way short of the mark. I imagine we are looking at every position to make sure we have at least two players for each position that can perform at that level. So GK (unless Hladky stays), CB, RWB, LWB, CM? at least one no.9 and a no.10

That’s not how I read the op nor the theoretical responses. We are a striker short in starting XI. We are quite short as a squad of proven championship players once into Edwards, Jackson, Camera, Donacien, Leigh, Harness. I expect most of those to contribute a lot next season but people have said there is no point levelling down with more squad players, you seek to acquire better players on the way up therefore push starters to finishers and finishers out of the door.

In order of most to least at risk. I’ve included Ladapo as even though he wasn’t the starting striker at the end of the season, he’s the first choice of players currently contracted to the club.

Ladapo
Burns
Burgess
Luongo
Walton
Clarke
Woolfenden
Broadhead
Chaplin
Morsy
Davis

I would be happy to bet anyone 50 quid that Clarke won't even be in the Match day squad for the first game of the season.
