All this talk of signing/not signing players..... 17:45 - Aug 21 with 4077 viewsBloots

....is a bit unilateral isn't it?

Excluding the previously discussed potential departures, Edwardo, Baggy, Humphers, Greggers etc, I wonder if we are going to get any big offers for any proper first teamers?

I wonder if some crap Prem teams (Luton, Sheff U, Burnley, Everton, Man U), or one of the Champ parachute boys, would chuck some money at anyone?

£8m for Samy?
£10m for Wolfy?
£12m for Broady?
£15m for Leify?

Ashton would love it.

What would it realistically take? (note realistically, remembering this is a business)

Probably a bit late at this point unless the bid was waaaaaaaaaaay over actual value?

I think we'd have to look twice at anything in 8-figures for those lads, but can't see that happening.

Can't see any bids worth looking at until Jan or next Summer

Morsy no chance would we get more than a mill for. Not for what we bought him for. His wages and his age.

The others would need a fair few months of champ football imo to be looked at from higher level clubs.

But say we have a solid but non promotion season.

Next summer I'd say
Wolfy.. 8 mill
Davis 13 mill
Broadhead 15 mill

a niche perspective

...price of success.

It's a bit arrogant of us to expect to sign other team's players, but then say "We won't sell anyone. Why would anyone leave us!?"

I did wonder if we might see some interest in our players this Summer, but wonder whether teams want to see if the likes of Wolfy, Davis, Broadhead continue to impress a division up? Certainly any premier league teams will want a bit more proof of players ability.

I think it's also unlikely that any Championship teams would see signing from us as giving them good value - we don't want/need to sell, and players not likely to be desperate to move to another championship team.

IMO it would have to be some pretty hefty bids - in the order of what you suggest - to tempt the club into even considering letting them go as things stand. We don't need to sell for £2m, it wouldn't give much purchasing power in the current environment and it would leave a hole in a well-functioning team.

Then there is the player, who might be offered a bigger salary, but how much and would it offset moving into a different squad, maybe one battling relegation rather than upwardly mobile?

I also don't know how highly regarded individually our players are. They've done well as a group in L1 and now the first few weeks of a Champ campaign. But who are the really stand-out stars to be cherry-picked, compared with shopping for more established "names" or young, cheap(ish) lower-division punts? Not convinced anyone is well-enough known to attract the attention.

I think they have undervalued him a bit

Exactly why he’ll never be sold because would cost us £10-15million to replace him. Class act. Value is kinda irrelevant when you’re talking about our best player, club captain. Regardless of age.

There is only one player I could see us considering a realistic bid for...

Walton.

Hladky playing very well. Slicker as back up. Teams know we want another couple of players.

Could see someone testing the water with a reasonable bid and maybe a loanee.

Not saying we would accept, just think it's the most likely one if we do get a serious bid.

I'd be surprised if we lost any first teamers at this point. It's late in the window so not much time to find replacements, even if we have cash to burn, and none of our most saleable assets have more than a handful of appearances to their names so for a Prem side or parachute side they'd be taking a gamble. If we don't go up then next summer will be interesting, January could be spicy too if Davis and Woolf continue their early season form.

But why would Bristol City or us care if we sold say a Leif Davis for £15-20m?

That's literally the future MO of this club and any club at our level.

Tho in that case we'll be somewhere near the top of the table and unlikely to sell players for that reason.

Surprised a lower prem team hasn’t bid for Davis. Such an obviously good player.

He’s only really done it in the third tier though? I appreciate he’s started this season well, but it’s 3 games.

If he plays well for 30+ games this season, he’ll get a move to the Prem next summer, no shadow of a doubt.

Davis keeps this trajectory and he’s a +35m player in 3 years. Big if as with all players at all levels. He’s got the attributes though and is adding minutes on the pitch in an upwardly mobile team with big crowd expectations to substantiate things.

Safe to say he is our most valuable asset. Broadhead and Clarke have potential, Hirst hopefully. They need to demonstrate it in the champ. Walton possibly nut he is older. I'd be amazed if we don't lose one of those, not this summer, but...
