Imagine seeing how we have performed and recruited for the last year, and having the start to this season that we've had, and still managing to find a negative angle on things.

Remarkable effort.

Think it's just the wording from Ashton that hasn't helped with this window.
Constantly going along with the adding quality to the side. This then opens it up to what people deem as quality

For me I like Scarlett's potential, but i'm not overly keen on another loan, but then we were never gonna get him perm anyway...

Ashton doesn't like loans, we now have 3, more than likely going to end up with 4 maybe even 5 by tomorrow night.

And for additional quality.. until we've actually had 6 months of these loans, no one has any quality to see. Williams hasn't played for a year, Hutchinson hasn't played senior football, Dane played for portsmouth and didn't have a great year.
So if you're looking at 'new' quality then to some there hasn't been any 'new' 'quality' added.

in 6 months time however the picture may look different.

Whilst technically a loan, Williams is more of a loan to sign situation as there is no way that Man utd extend him on his current terms.

That's all looking on the negative side though. You could easily flip those around and talk about them in a positive way, if one chose to.

For example, although Scarlett didn't have a great year at Pompey he was played on the wing. And it was Pompey.

Remember how you didn't see the point of Hirst (before he arrived and also after he'd played a couple of games)?!

In McKenna I trust.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Yes I agree , I'm not so worried regards Williams as I would think Man U are unlikely to offer him much of a new deal so if we want we might be in a good position to get him permanently. Scarlets and Hutch much less so if at all .Remember Ashton, who has obviously had a tough window, has stated loans are not his preferred path . We are all happy with the progress the club has made for me noone is being over negative.

There’s a few people acting like Dudley Dursley counting his presents on his birthday.

Dudley Dursley : How many are there?
Uncle Vernon : 36, counted them myself.
Dudley Dursley : 36! But last year, last year I had 37!
Uncle Vernon : Yes, yes, but some of them are quite a bit bigger than last year.
Dudley Dursley : I don't care how big they are!

For what he’s achieved after ten years of absolute dross and decay, McKenna could sign a corpse and I’d be wondering what position he’ll get them excelling in.

tbh i thought throughout last season that we already had a side capable of competing in the championship, it was just a case of fighting our way out of L1. McK is that good a coach that even Broadhead, who was clearly a great player before he came has got even better and i'd expect something similar with scarlett. Would like to see a CB come in now but i think that's the extent of what we need for now.

Ashton is all about player trading and it sounds like it’s our only route to more success so judging him based on which players have selling value:

Aluko contract renewed - no selling value
Luongo contract renewed - no selling value
Slicker - possible but he’s third choice here so I really doubt it
Hutchinson - no selling value
Scarlett if he comes - no selling value
Williams - no selling value
Hirst - if he has a good season then a lot of value
Taylor - I think a lot of selling value here but has started life on the bench

This after we have been told how exciting the window would be, how plans were in place since January for our summer signings and with Ashton and now Mckenna saying we would like more players than what we brought in

It's quite something.

Talent ID for a club like us is finding players like Scarlett who could be superb in the Championship and picking them up because other clubs have seen him do very little at Portsmouth.

If Scarlett had scored 20 goals last season then he'd likely be heading for a Leicester or Leeds in the way Rak-Saki looked like he may go to Leicester before Palace were potentially keeping him.

Coventry almost went up with a load of loans from the likes of Man City. Burnley did go up with players like Maatsen and Tella on loan. Burnley had parachute money too but wasted their time with loan signings?

It's like people don't understand that by loaning Scarlett it retains funds that can be used to buy a Broadhead or a Hirst or a Davis when the right player comes along. We'd all rather own a player but it's cheaper to buy Scarlett when he just looks a decent Championship player than when he's still being considered a potential decent Premier League player.

Sorry? When were we 'told' how exciting this window would be.

You can have all the plans in world, but if the selling clubs are holding us to ransom, or the players are wanting to break our wages structure, knowing how much money we have behind us, then the plans are worth precisely f**k all.

The last thing I want ORG doing is spunking so much on wages or transfers, that the whole thing become unsustainable for them and they start looking for ways out.

The majortiy of our squad, will fit that criteria.

That doesn't mean succesful teams won't utilise Prem loans ( see Coventry, Forest) nor have the odd grizzled experienced pro.

No one has said how 'exciting' the transfer window would be. That sounds stupid.

We were told we'd "attack this division" & last month that we're after 2-3 signings to improve the starting 11....

The business so far doesn't fit with those statements, including Scarlett who doesn't come straight into the 11 and improve it?

Whilst potentially true, it is still a loan and IF we say he has a smashing season, who's to say we can afford him next summer if the parachute clubs become interested in him etc or lower prem sides.

I get there is a change of any loans to become perms, but the facts are without the option to buy, it is just a loan

We are attacking the league- we're in the top 6

We have signed Williams, who is from a premier league team and the same with Scarlett if he signs, 2 players who can improve the starting 11.

I'm a bit taken aback by the Scarlett thread, it's pretty extreme even for the usuals. Not sure who or what they were expecting and seems to be healthy doses of memory-loss and context missing.

The fact we've got clubs like this willing to send us their players is also a key message. When was the last time we got players with this sort of profile?

Seems like a lot of people are losing their minds for no good reason. Ashton said 2 or 3 new signings which we now have. We're taking loans from Spurs/Utd which is fine by me. Buying to improve this squad is likely to be expensive so I understand the clubs caution.
