Our support amazes me sometimes on 13:01 - Aug 31 by vilanovablue | Seems like a lot of people are losing their minds for no good reason. Ashton said 2 or 3 new signings which we now have. We're taking loans from Spurs/Utd which is fine by me. Buying to improve this squad is likely to be expensive so I understand the clubs caution. |
Williams is a suits all parties loan too. He's on £65k a week United are in turmoil behind the scenes, so getting him out and part of his wages paid where he might attract a bidding war if he flourishes, suits them. We could never afford him as is, so will want to push that same as we did Hirst. I'd be amazed if Scarlett doesn't do well here with KmcK backing himself to bring it out of him. Spurs know the pedigree of both parties too, so it seems like the ideal place to demonstrate what we can do for Prem clubs and build on our successes.

Also, if people aren't happy with what they perceive as the quality of those signings, that's not on the CEO's head. He just gets in the players the manager wants; he said 3 and he's got 3. I imagine he has very little input on how good anyone thinks they are, that's not in his remit (and shouldn't be).

The very fact that MA said about 2/3 incoming…. They were losing heads at that not happening…. And now it likely is happening… oh, this is lovely to watch. Where will they turn next

Our support amazes me sometimes on 13:30 - Aug 31 with 1397 views | RegencyBlue | I have to admit I find it quite amusing how vocal many of our supporters are now compared to when Evans was destroying the club. Until the latter stages of Evans reign, with a few notable exceptions, the silence was deafening on here! Having said that people are entitled to express an opinion. I don’t personally think our recruitment this window has gone to plan. From what Ashton was saying earlier in the summer to now what was being implied by him in Austria hasn’t happened. That’s not being critical, just an observation. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Our support amazes me sometimes on 11:45 - Aug 31 by FrimleyBlue | Think it's just the wording from Ashton that hasn't helped with this window. Constantly going along with the adding quality to the side. This then opens it up to what people deem as quality For me I like Scarlett's potential, but i'm not overly keen on another loan, but then we were never gonna get him perm anyway... Ashton doesn't like loans, we now have 3, more than likely going to end up with 4 maybe even 5 by tomorrow night. And for additional quality.. until we've actually had 6 months of these loans, no one has any quality to see. Williams hasn't played for a year, Hutchinson hasn't played senior football, Dane played for portsmouth and didn't have a great year. So if you're looking at 'new' quality then to some there hasn't been any 'new' 'quality' added. in 6 months time however the picture may look different. |
We were big fish in League One and could outbid and out wage any other club in that division. The Ellis Simms sale shows that we are no longer in that position and will need to bring in loans this season in order to compete. It worked out very well for Plymouth last season who would never have been in a position to buy the likes of Mumba and Whitaker as a League one side. [Post edited 31 Aug 2023 16:47]

Well there’s quite a lot that don’t tbf. But Frimmers managed to make a game the other night so let’s tick him off the list for this season. Stokie and Badger to go, maybe they could do the first time fans thing

Our support amazes me sometimes on 12:09 - Aug 31 by Asa | It's quite something. Talent ID for a club like us is finding players like Scarlett who could be superb in the Championship and picking them up because other clubs have seen him do very little at Portsmouth. If Scarlett had scored 20 goals last season then he'd likely be heading for a Leicester or Leeds in the way Rak-Saki looked like he may go to Leicester before Palace were potentially keeping him. Coventry almost went up with a load of loans from the likes of Man City. Burnley did go up with players like Maatsen and Tella on loan. Burnley had parachute money too but wasted their time with loan signings? It's like people don't understand that by loaning Scarlett it retains funds that can be used to buy a Broadhead or a Hirst or a Davis when the right player comes along. We'd all rather own a player but it's cheaper to buy Scarlett when he just looks a decent Championship player than when he's still being considered a potential decent Premier League player. For me you are missing the point some posters are making its nowt to do with the quality of the players on loan its the point that Ashton and KM have made themselves they want to build our own side our own players . Ok that looks as though it has not happened as much as everone hoped this window disappointing but we can wait until the next or the one after that . I have not read anyone havi g a go much just maybe a few Trolls !

Our support amazes me sometimes on 12:09 - Aug 31 by Hipsterectomy | Ashton is all about player trading and it sounds like it’s our only route to more success so judging him based on which players have selling value: Aluko contract renewed - no selling value Luongo contract renewed - no selling value Slicker - possible but he’s third choice here so I really doubt it Hutchinson - no selling value Scarlett if he comes - no selling value Williams - no selling value Hirst - if he has a good season then a lot of value Taylor - I think a lot of selling value here but has started life on the bench This after we have been told how exciting the window would be, how plans were in place since January for our summer signings and with Ashton and now Mckenna saying we would like more players than what we brought in |
We’ve likely hit our FFP ceiling for the price of players that would improve the squad, so the only way to get the requisite quality in currently is via loans, as our saleable assets won’t reach full potential valuation until they’ve had a decent season in the championship. Come next summer and we sell Leif & Broadhead for instance for a combined £20M+ say and we then have the wiggle room, which other championship clubs have this summer thru this scenario, to invest more broadly across the squad in terms of permanent first team additions to move us up to the next level. The owners have the money but not the possibility to use it. As others have said the prem loan market in the championship is a vital cog in all the leagues clubs ability to add quality they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. This is nothing new, to us or any other club.. have folks lost their heads? By the same logic Aluko signing on for another year is a good deal, as to buy in someone of his general quality & experience who knows the system and would be happy to play a bit part role would cost cash we don’t have room to use for that role in the team. Trouble is after 6 months are up we could be well off the top 6 then it’s been a wasted season just getting other teams youngsters game time and experience. Didn’t think we had time for that. The word was we were pushing on. Doesn’t look like it with a team full of kids who are on loan.

I have interpreted attacking the league slightly differently. It could well be through player acquisition but for me it’s much more about approach on the pitch. We are playing brave attractive football whist scoring goals and winning games.

Why a wasted season? Where have you heard anyone from the club state promotion is the aim this season? You could argue a strong and stabilising championship season is exactly what the club needs. People here are already bemoaning the lack of signings. Can you imagine the clamour for new signings if we did go up? This team has had a great start and we hope it lasts. It's inevitable we'll lose few games this season. Doesn't make us a poor team who had a poor summer window.
