Brandon Williams (again) 15:07 - Jun 10 with 15110 views | BlueNomad | Thinking how, in many ways, he would be a good signing; PL experience, no transfer fee and can play left and right back. If successful he would fit the player-trading model. BUT with a court date set for early next year would he be worth the risk?
Brandon Williams (again) on 15:10 - Jun 10 with 7779 views | Marshalls_Mullet | The risk is behavioural and not financial. Only KM can decide. None of us know his state of mind and attitude / ability to reform.

Brandon Williams (again) on 15:19 - Jun 10 with 7685 views | Basuco | Getting him out of Manchester may have been thought of a way of helping him, as it did not work particularly well last season, KMc might move his search elsewhere. Without doubt a great player and huge talent, but has to be fully focused on his football.

Surely a behavioural risk makes it a financial risk?

The motoring offense occurred prior to the commencement of his loan spell here.

Not materially. If there are suitable termination clauses in the contract, then the risk can be minimised.

Something certainly happened during his loan spell.

Brandon Williams (again) on 16:47 - Jun 10 with 7151 views | GlasgowBlue | Any free signings in key positions frees up funds for marque players throughout the squad. So if we can get his head right then it's a yes for me.

Brandon Williams (again) on 17:01 - Jun 10 with 7081 views | Vegtablue | He was a very exciting prospect in 19/20 when parachuted in to play a third of Man Utd's season. Dropped down Ole's pecking order in 20/21, hardly playing. Mostly first-choice for Norwich in 21/22, who finished bottom of the PL with 22 points. Zero playing time in 22/23. I thought he was very exciting offensively, positionally a bit suspect, and lived his football life on the edge. If not for the off-field issues it would be a no-brainer, but I didn't think he hit the heights whereby we'd be tempted to overlook the serious off-field baggage. My gut feeling is it will be a 'no' from us this season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Because if it's determined that he's remorseful, wants to knuckle down and get his career back on track, and if you believe in giving people a second chance, he'd be a low-risk bargain (with 'behave yourself' clauses written in). He's not in a position to charge big wages now, so the only real risk I can see is in taking up a squad place. The potential upside is huge. [Post edited 10 Jun 2024 17:22]

And when he’s found in his car in a lay-by with a balloon hanging out of his arse we can all laugh at those that constantly pushed for this signing

Brandon Williams (again) on 17:59 - Jun 10 with 6699 views | MK1 | I would sign him with his contract terminated if he is a naughty boy. I think he needs to get away from Manchester and restart his career. Obviously McKenna, Ashton and the rest know the truth and the current circumstances, but from the outside looking in, I would bring him in and give him all the help and guidance he may or may not need.

Brandon Williams (again) on 18:05 - Jun 10 with 6673 views | acj | It's a no from me. Went AWOL on us last year and we were lucky that Tuanzebe did such a great job at right back, as otherwise we were left very thin in that area of the pitch.

This. None of us have any idea if he's salvageable. I hope so, but the game is littered with people who weren't. If he can put the past behind him and get fit, it's a no-brainer and I'd sign him like a shot.

Brandon Williams (again) on 18:15 - Jun 10 with 6607 views | cressi | I would prefer Ben Johnson at West ham 24 yrs old also available on a free offered a contract but turned it down. Just comes without the drama and problems. Also a London boy so reasonably near home.

I don't think anybody has said sign him and sod the rest. The one's I've seen have all be with a hint of caution. We ain't the Samaritans. We haven't really got a clue what happened here last season and nor should we. IF, and yes, it's a big IF, but IF those in the know think they can sort his off the field issues, then yes, I would sign him. We need a right back and you are not going to get potentially better value than Brandon Williams. Not without risks, but if those that really know are convinced, then so am I.

Brandon Williams (again) on 18:44 - Jun 10 with 6478 views | Sharkey | As he's banned from driving for a year, my guess is he'll be hoping for a club in the north west. I know he's a much higher calibre of player than League 1, but Stockport are very ambitious and I can see him getting his act back together there for a year ... and cycling to training.

Brandon Williams (again) on 19:42 - Jun 10 with 6337 views | Dubtractor | I would be staggered if we sign him. Absolutely flabbergasted. So much effort has gone into getting a squad full of absolutely amazing characters, as referenced by the comments from a few outgoing players, and Williams just doesn't fit that template at all. He may learn from all that's gone on, may be a reformed character, but I simply don't see McKenna or Ashton wanting to take the same risk (that didn't work first time with him) a second time.

If the club, players and fans show him some love, wouldn't that make him want to succeed with us and be part of our upward trajectory? He is young enough to change his ways.

With the sort of money that your average premier league footballer earns, I'm sure he'd be able to afford the odd taxi or two, if not his own personal chauffeur!
