Real lack of Euros buzz out there 13:59 - Jul 10 with 3018 views | bluelagos | Are we just getting used to success such that a Euros semi final is all a bit - meh? Is this what will happen when we reach our 3rd Champions League semi final in 4 seasons?

Club over country every time. Euros and World Cup are a nice distraction but ultimately not that bothered. I think the lack of buzz is partly due to England playing very dull football and fans feast on European club football so much there’s no surprises any more.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:07 - Jul 10 with 2454 views | davblue | Think the style of play isn’t helping, people are expecting it to be a slog. I’m not excited for the game, 2018 I was, 2020 I was tonight, meh. Ipswich have brought all the feels over the last 2 years especially. When Bellingham scored I didn’t celebrate anywhere near as much as Sarmiento’s goal v Southampton.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:09 - Jul 10 with 2426 views | J2BLUE | I think there are four reasons it's so muted 1) We're in the semis and haven't beaten anyone. Credit to Switzerland, they are reasonable but we haven't had the big win or big rivalry win (Germany in 2021) to get the excitement going. Feels like we've stumbled into the semis. 2) The games are hard to watch. England with all our attacking quality are playing in a very dull and pragmatic way. Some will say it's working. I think that is being generous. 3) Most fans would make a few changes. It's crying out for Toney up front with Watkins coming on later on. Also for Palmer to start in place of Foden. Yet, in all likelihood, the biggest surprise would be Southgate playing a left back at left back. 4) Southgate has not accepted the criticism. Lots of little digs at the fans. Bellingham has been the same. I don't think I even care if they win it now. I want them to win tonight and maybe in the final the patriotism will take over but it feels so undeserved. A get out of jail free card for a manager who would have got incredibly lucky unless performances vastly improve. If we win it, does Southgate stay for the world cup? Incredibly uninspiring thought.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:10 - Jul 10 with 2401 views | urbanpenguin | I am not that bothered. Would be nice for England to do well, but I am mainly an Ipswich fan not England. And they have been appallingly dull to watch - perhaps we have all been spoilt by McKennaball for two years but I can't find much pleasure in watching them this tournament. So when I got invited to a drinks thing tonight I gladly accepted, i can cope with watching the highlights when I get in rather than live.

this, spot on. 2020 (2021) also had the added high of end of covid and predominantly Wembley games, bar one in Rome. Unique circumstances that combined to the most amazing feel good atmosphere.
Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:12 - Jul 10 with 2382 views | baxterbasics | I think the last time I got really emotionally invested in England at tournaments was 98 World cup, when Becks got sent off V Argentina. It doesn't help that the recent performances have been so meh. I wouldn't be surprised though if they manage to limp into the final like this.

I think tournaments need special games to get the fans on board. Euro 96 was probably the last time it happened properly, with the Scotland game and then the Holland game really getting the momentum going.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:27 - Jul 10 with 2240 views | Europablue | It probably didn't help that there was an election going on during the tournament. That's enough to dampen anyone's excitement. The other thing is that even though we've had some very favourable draws, we still got to the final last time out, so a semi-final is just not that exciting in comparison. I'm looking forward to the match, but I'm struggling to get my work done in time, so barely any time to build up anticipation considering all the time I'm wasting checking on Philogene.

It's a sobering thought. Would we still want to win the Euros if it meant that Southgate stays on for another tournament? I am wiling to forgive Southgate for his sins if he just shows signs that he is learning. He needs to make subs before the opposition scores, not after! He should instinctively be able to understand when a goal is likely to come and make changes. It is difficult to go from KM as the manager to Southgate. It makes it especially painful to watch England.
Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 14:40 - Jul 10 with 2172 views | textbackup | Because the football has been so poor, most people I know are very much like ‘play anyone decent and we’ll go out anyway’ I’m guessing they see the Dutch as decent therefore won’t get hyped up, to then get let down. Personally, we have been horrible to watch, BUT it’s a semi final, against a beatable team IMO

I'm happy for Southgate to continue - just in case they look to KM as a replacement!

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 15:14 - Jul 10 with 2057 views | SomethingBlue | I speak with an immediacy bias having been out here for four weeks but the tournament has been good – the atmosphere absolutely tremendous, most of the games pretty tight and tense to the end, higher % of exciting games than in the last two or three Euros (forget England). I think it's several things but the minute-by-minute circus of club football consumes everything now, as does the obsessive online fan-led quest for "quality", and there's also the fact we have too much football now – not helped by the unique covid circumstances that meant three major tournaments in four years. Euro 2024 has not been particularly bad at all but these factors definitely get in people's way and it won't improve. [Post edited 10 Jul 2024 15:15]

5) we (town fans) have had such a mental 2 years that we feel a bit ‘footballed out’ That said, England win this tournament and I’m not sure you’ll ever get a better 2 years of football as a Town/England fan

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 15:26 - Jul 10 with 1943 views | wkj | I also think that England was the best chance that Town fans had to celebrate football for the longest time. Now we know success, its not such a let off for us.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 15:29 - Jul 10 with 1919 views | acj | Euros just don't excite me that much to be honest. International football is all about the World Cup for me. Maybe it was easier to get excited for England when it gave us a break from Town being dreadful. Now that we're this good to watch, England games feel like a real step down in terms of excitement, entertainment value, etc.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 15:42 - Jul 10 with 1795 views | Vaughan8 | The whole tournament has been a bit odd for me. Some good games, but mostly not including the big nations. England games have pretty much been the worst and have been lucky to get through these knockout games (whatever anyone else says), playing in a very boring manner despite having the best squad/players. I'm an England fan that wants them to do well, but ultimately I don't really care. The fact the players have basically said we can't criticise them and a lot of media people have now bowed down to them, its all a bit odd.

Agree with all of that. 1-3 could be changed with a decent performance / win tonight. Re No4, I've been shocked at how twisted the group seems to have got about the media coverage. Its been pretty fair criticism, and I'd bet its not worse than the other 'big' nations. Southgate has blown it out of proportion this time, and its a failing.

Real lack of Euros buzz out there on 16:08 - Jul 10 with 1647 views | rickw | Apparently Trippier is going to start again, so that's another 70+ minutes of no attacks down the left.... I've no idea why he doesn't start Shaw, then if he's knackered after an hour you can decide to bring on a more attacking/defensive player depending on what we need. It seems Southgate is going to do the same as last game again - hope his ineffectual team works until we're behind then make lots of attacking substitutions hoping they can rescue the shi* his decisions have put us in....
