... I've woken up convincing myself we can get something today. We're going to need the defensive focus we showed for an hour against Brighton, plus the ability we showed against Chelsea to get among them and ask questions – but more of both. Not much point just sitting in, they just pick you off, we need to show them we're there. This season City do give you a chance so we have to hope it comes at the right time of the game and we take it. They don't particularly like runners from deep and I also think Hutchinson/Philogene can cause some real problems if we work them into space. From there it requires the right pass/shot selection. Huge ask for us though – really hope we can just produce something that stirs people.

Absolutely, if we're not going to give games like this a go then there's no point being here.

We will definitely get something out of it, be it a point or a bloody good lesson in football. But I’m going 2-1 town win , Delap and broady. And a consolation Haaland goal.

Sky sports thinks we will win 2-1

They ask how can Man City who have won 1 in 10 games away be odds in favourites. It makes no sense :) :?

Whether or not it's enough, you'd have to think we see a different kind of atmosphere and performance today.

They may well thrash us as it’s football and anything can happen - but form wise - they have won 1 in 10 away

We've already shown we can score against them at least. Had we played them during that slump I'd almost expected us to beat them in some ways.

Today is as much about the performance for me. A measuring stick for what we've got in the tank going into the rest of the season. Anything at all will be massive, but I feel like the crucial game this week was the one just gone.

I'm usually pretty positive going into games, buy my optimism meter isn't reading very high today. Possibly that last 30 minutes vs brighton is weighted too heavily in my assessment of today.

One thing I will say, is that City will try and impose their game, rather than just throttle ours, so we'll hopefully get some attacking opportunities.

If we can put in a chelsea performance and by that it needs delap to be unplayable and an absolute bettering ram then we have a chance.

If we can't put in a Chelsea performance. It's a heavy home loss I'm afraid.

We seem to be on the wrong end of timing for this one. 2-3 weeks earlier and it’s a different game.

We’ll see though. Never say never and all that. Who’d have thought Bournemouth would smash a rampant Newcastle at home yesterday?

I think people did overplay the Brighton game a little – they've only lost four all season, it was always going to be a colossal ask to win and it was a shame really that we had to play them at a time when we'd so little depth on the bench. For 59 minutes we'd worked it into exactly the place we needed it to be.

Most of all hopefully today is enjoyable, in which case we'll come away feeling OK about the remainder of the season whatever the score. As with Tuesday, defeat isn't going to change the look of the league table much.

Chelsea particularly, plus Arsenal are the keys. We need to play like in those games (but take most or all of our chances to score).

Ha, injecting some realism, how did we do against a team who hadn't won in eight?

In all probability, at best it will be like most games this season. We're in the game until around the hour mark then the depth shows. But anything can happen. Spurs away and Chelsea down here shows that.

Our big hope is they're scrapping for Champions League qualification so may not play their strongest XI today, with one eye on Wednesday.

Well I was sure we’d beat Arsenal away then get thrashed by Chelsea, and u thought we’d beat Brighton so in that basis I’m going for a strong bounce back and a 2-1 win today. 😂

When you look at it like that, seems like either team could win this one and I’m just going to leave it there.

POST OF THE DAY (I’ve woken up positive as well - different to pre-Etihad) on 11:19 - Jan 19 with 1466 viewsunstableblue

I thought it would 6,7,8-0 at the Etihad at the start of the season. We had moments.

Although Ipswich weren’t at the level they can now achieve that day. It was early in the project.

We’ve learnt a lot.

But SB wanted to pick out 3 things from your post, a strategy for today:

1. Go into the low block for periods, BUT, do not allow City to become 1-3-6… you just get too dug-in
2. Get into their heads by winning duels, pressing high and strong tackles - but crucially break on them … create chances, make them think it’s not going to be easy
3. Break the lines and have runners going at them… city as you say don’t like it

Need the centre backs to bring it out as well
