Murray Joins Plymouth as Carson and Scotland Also Set for Moves
Thursday, 10th Jan 2013 15:01

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that striker Ronan Murray is joining League Two Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season, while midfielder Josh Carson is also set to move out for a temporary spell.

McCarthy said: “They’ll both be going out on loan, Ronan’s going out on loan, he’s on his way down to Plymouth at the moment.

“With Josh, there are a couple of clubs who would like to take him, we’ll wait and see what happens.”

Irish U21 international Murray is out of contract at the end of the season, while Northern Ireland full international Carson is contracted until 2014 with the option of a further year.

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed that striker Jason Scotland will be allowed to move during the transfer window: “Jason is likely to be going somewhere. He’s been fabulous, Jason, he’s such a lovely character and a nice man, he’s been great around the place.

“But we’re going younger and hungrier, I guess, and unfortunately Jason’s missing out. But he understands and he’d like to go and play football somewhere in the twilight of his career.”

Wolves, Brighton and Preston are all understood to be interested in the 33-year-old former Trinidad and Tobago international but McCarthy says no deal is yet in place with any party.

Just seeing Mick say that we're looking to go younger and hungrier has made my day, finally someone who listens to what the fans want! Think its a wise move letting Carson and Murray go on loan rather than selling them so he can see how they develop.

Argyle need players and i reckon Murray will score some goals for them. Can we send a few more reserves down here to Plymouth to help their predicament?

Nice to see Mick's happy for players to go out on loan if they're not getting in the squad. If there's no place for them in the team for the short-term, it's great for players like Carson to go out and play some regular football elsewhere rather than halt their progression. Could do them the world of good.

I would disagree slightly with @Awaydays, I don't think Murray has been given a chance, he was on the bench countless times under Jewell virtually every week and never came on, how is he supposed to impress like that? you can't keep giving players a cameo appearance now and then and expect them to have an impact on the team. My feelings for Carson are a bit different, he's had a pretty decent chance under our previous managers and many will say he has potential and still young but I'm not entirely sure what he's good at, he isn't the quickest, has a bit of skill and doesn't score enough goals, I can understand the management may want to nurture him and try and see if he can progress but I'm just not enthused by him, just my opinion though of course.

Michael11, if you think that McCarthy is getting younger players because that's what the supporters want, you're deluding yourself. Every manager is his own man and does what he thinks is right. Listening to fans is a recipe for disaster; you only have to read the diverse and conflicting comments on here to confirm that

If Murray and Carson go out on loan and come back as better players to claim places in the first team, then that is wonderful. However, it smells of young Ipswich players being pushed out to be replaced by loanees who may or may not stay and have dubious commitment to the club.

Murray - good young player - games is what he and all need - lack of ressie football really hampers - especially when we have 9 or 10 strikers !!

Michael11 - you really think it's because he's listening to what the fans want? Get real. When a manager picks his team according to what fans want is the day that he should be sacked.

WRT to 'Ipswichbusiness' comment "it smells of young Ipswich players being pushed out to be replaced by loanees who may or may not stay and have dubious commitment to the club"

What's to say the youngsters have more commitment than a loanee? Surely some loan players want to impress to get deals? Youngsters may just be using ITFC as a stepping stone too. You can't just make assumptions.

Every single manager out there just wants the best player in the best position they can find. DJ didn't do too bad as a loan player did he? There are numerous other examples.

Scotland was tired when he arrived. Still has a great shot on him and the odd bursting run when he turns on the ball and runs at a defence. Can also hold the ball up well.

But lets be honest he has no pace, can't get in behind an opposition defence when given a through ball and was always 2 yards slower and a shadow of his former, 25 goals a season, self at Swansea. We need players to take us forward into the Premier League and unfortunately he is not it. I wish him all the best but anyone who thinks otherwise is looking at him with a pair nostalgic glasses on. I agree with Bournemouth Blue.

I will be very surprised if Murray or Carson make the grade at our level so these moves make good sense. Both have had their chances at ITFC - Carson flatters to deceive and Murray hardly set the world alight at Swindon. Both have played for the 'Reserves' and still not shone, so only my opinion but reckon they will be surplus to requirements here.

Cant see Murray ever making it in the Ipswich side as he failed to break in to the first team in all the time he has been here, with some of the players like McGoldrick who is scoring goals at this level.

Saw Both Murray and Carson on Tuesday night at Felixstowe and they could certainly do with their loan spells. It has to benefit them playing regularly as they didn't look anything like Championship standard

Yes, but lets hope their loan doesnt move onto a permanent deal- I think Carson is great on his day and one for the future.

So that takes us down to just the 9 strikers !

Wasnt it Carson who came back from pre season last year 'well' over weight and it has been a downward spiral ever since.

He signed a 3 year deal I believe and seems happy to take the money but not to put in the work to get into the side. Flatters to deceive. MM can see it and so can many supporters

i think both could be good players for town paticulary murray so i hope its i case of getting a run a team somewhere and coming back better.i dont think murray has had a proper run but thats not micks fault as this is maybe not the time to throw them in for a sink or swim experience when our status in the division is in question.good luck to JS did his best during a difficult period for the club COYB

@ Vic & 50yearsablue

I was a bit wrong with my wording, i didn't mean Mick and Terry sit and read TWTD i just mean it's nice to see that they're delivering what us fans have been craving for over the last few years!

Good luck to Jason, good guy that always played with a smile! Deserves to play somewhere unluckily manager looking down other routes. Murray not really cut it for me,bit light weight unfortunately granted hasn't really had a chance, glad Carson going out on loan as can on his day be a decent player in his best position ,just hasn't shown this to the gaffer as of yet!

Good to see them getting a chance to show what they can do in competitive games and not just the training ground. IMHO I don't think Carson will make it here, I think he did have a chance to prove his worth but blew it. Murray has never had a real chance at 1st team level, but his stature rules him out of many roles, will always need a tall partner unless he could be converted to a winger.

Good luck to Jason has been a good and patient servant to the club.
Watched the reserves at Felixstowe on Tuesday and the team looked pretty average.I appreciate many of the Ipswich team were young but few IMO looked capable of stepping up.
That is apart from Mings and Carson.
Murray would definitely benefit from a loan spell to get games but i'm not convinced he's a future Ipswich first team regular.
Carson on the other hand IMO looked quality and without doubt a class above the other players.Compact, comfortable on the ball, great left foot and at times had a turn of pace. A decent loan spell with a good club and i can imagine him coming back stronger and fitter and definitely being an asset to MM.

I still think Carson could make it, providing he works for it. When he burst on to the scene at the end of the 2010-11 season (when Whickham was playing too) he looked awesome on the right wing, pacey, skilful & scored a few goals too. Reminded me of a young Marc Overmars. I rate the lad but unfortunately It seems he couldn't keep his feet on the ground & allegedly came back over weight & unfit. I blame the money that these young players get paid, it goes to their heads & so does the lifestyle. Playing football is not work!

Does this mean we're not gonna see Carson lashed up in the town centre, dropping his chips whilst cracking onto ache ridden teenage girls whilst wearing mainly baby gap shirts and buckled shoes?? .......shame I really thought he could be someone.
