Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 08:57 - Jan 21 by GlasgowBlue | Meh. Never understood people’s emotional attachment to a trading organisation and don’t understand people’s emotional attachment to leaving it. |
Ahem, I recall back in the day, some people that were pro-Brexit at the time using emotive terms about the whole thing. Or maybe you spelled “I now don’t” wrong.

I have an emotional attachment to my job, I also don't see the point in such a drastic move that has no upside. The emotional attachment seems to be from people wanting to risks jobs

Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 01:03 - Jan 21 by The_Last_Baron | What a miserable response. Getting rid of the EU is going to be the making of the UK. I've waited 25 years for us to free ourselves from this farce and Friday 31st will be majestic. |
I'll keep reminding you of this as long as you keep gloating. You said about the deal under which we are about to leave the EU... “No, I hope it is voted down. Its a terrible arrangement. I've always felt the two choices are staying in or leaving on no deal. No half measures. You are either in or out. This deal, which is a compromise leaves us no better off and causes issues with NI. We can't strike trade deals for some time and when we do they can't be advantageous over the EU. What's the point in leaving then? The biggest advantage of leaving is economic freedom and control. This rushed Boris deal is a disaster, pretty much the same as May's deal.” You're so desperate to 'win' that you've completely changed your beliefs, it's weird. It's like me deciding now to be a Liverpool fan and then coming on here to mock all you Ipswich losers. Really weird.
Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 09:05 - Jan 21 with 1310 views | Lord_Lucan | I'm sweating on an import from Hamburg which I'm trying to get in before 31st as there are bound to be problems in the short term. Whilst still a remainer I am not fearful medium to long term, business will sort the situation out purely out of necessity. The general public remain confused about the fact that it is still possible to love Europe but not the authoritarian trading organisation.

I don’t believe that the U.K. is being transported out the continent of Europe. You are still as European as anyone born and resident in Asia is Asian. [Post edited 21 Jan 2020 9:10]

In 9 days I'm a little islander with a regressive attitude. Guthrum's got it spot on: Integrated travel, the ability to live and work in each other's countries, lack of borders and customs posts, having a forum for regional dispute arbiration. Those are the bits which I will most miss. I'm not keen on increased insularism (poorly veiled by nods to more distant and lesser trading partners, plus a dependence upon the USA under its current Administration). If that was all it was, people would not have been campaigning to leave it, or so vehemently keen to remain in. Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 09:13 - Jan 21 with 1258 views | chicoazul | It'll be mostly fine although there will definitely be some turbulence economically. We have a wet Liberal in charge of the government who is a Blairite so as I have long said, before all this we were half in and after all this we will be half out. Brexit has already happened in many sectors of the economy anyway. Socially, who knows, there are still a lot of crybaby Remainers out there and a lot of right wing racist Leavers too so there is potential for the odd spot of civil unrest, but as so often in England i think we will just bumble along as usual.

Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 09:16 - Jan 21 with 1245 views | Coastalblue | I think it will be a shame, and it's a scary prospect in many ways and I can see a couple of years of real hardship. Longer term I like to think we'll be OK, but for that to be the case I think we as a country need to start accepting we're no longer some global power or player but actually just a smallish run of the mill European nation these days. Unfortunately the ones pushing Brexit seem to be the worst of believers in us as something special.

Your second para is spot on. We are now a small weird peripheral nation with no real say or influence in anything globally at all and have been for some time, and leaving the EU reduces our influence even further. I accepted that round about 2015, everyone else needs to get on board with this view.

The IMF forecasts the UK will be the third fastest growing economy in the G7 in 2020 and 2021, ahead of France, Germany, Italy and Japan. They must have priced in our leaving the EU.

Things will get worse, cost of living will continue to creep up, I'll be mostly protected from that but plenty won't. |

Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union on 09:38 - Jan 21 with 1152 views | Swansea_Blue | For those of us that actually rely on that link and work daily with other EU nationals both here and in the EU, it's all a bit of a shame that it's been sacrificed on the altar of petty mindedness. The UK will still exist though, it'll just be a slightly different place. Much of the attitudes around the topic have been set for a while now so we've got used to the insular and xenophobic behaviours and already felt the consequences with EU nationals moving out and opportunities drying up. Things probably won't change much more there over the next 12 months. The next and largest shock will be when we actually leave after the transition period at the end of the year or whenever it actually runs out in practice, and depending on what our relationship with the EU looks like then (very weak by the sounds of the noises the Govt are making). We just need to get used to this New World Order (when it becomes clear what it'll look like). I can guarantee there'll be a raft of people point scoring when nothing changes after 31st Jan in the short term though.

As you well know I largely agree with you although we have always needed to travel with a passport and join the line. It's just a shame The EU "Government" steadfastly refused to reform and this is because of something you are very well familiar with and it starts with "Gravy" I was chatting with a mad (very successful) Spanish businessman a week or so ago who reckons that their lot desperately want Spexit but they are not being heard. He was convinced the only reason The EU has invested so much in new roads throughout Europe was so that The Germans could transport their goods throughout Europe quicker. He was a bit of a loon but he had some valid points, he was frothing at the mouth by the end. He predicts a domino effect and he also concludes that Germany and France will find it impossible to prop the project up without UK support. I have to say I make him right.
