Ten days until the UK leaves the European Union 00:52 - Jan 21 with 29786 viewsThe_Last_Baron

How are we all feeling about this impending historic moment?

Poll: Would you support a permanent return to the old yellow Town badge?

My big worries are the lack of protection for workers rights, the high cost of border control at ports and airports, access to SIENA and Europol and general cost of living rising due to the higher cost of imports. But it does depend on what EU laws and regulations are retained in the exit agreement, only after that will we be able to see if leaving was a good or bad idea.

I know several judges including a high court judge who are delighted.

They aren't going to be the ones hurt by it though.

All you are doing is highlighting the selfishness of what some would call "the elite".

I know you consider yourself among those circles due to your years of hard work which you've made sure we know about but all you really do is re-enforce a class divide whilst claiming to stand in democracy with people who will suffer.

As you well know I largely agree with you although we have always needed to travel with a passport and join the line.

It's just a shame The EU "Government" steadfastly refused to reform and this is because of something you are very well familiar with and it starts with "Gravy"

I was chatting with a mad (very successful) Spanish businessman a week or so ago who reckons that their lot desperately want Spexit but they are not being heard. He was convinced the only reason The EU has invested so much in new roads throughout Europe was so that The Germans could transport their goods throughout Europe quicker. He was a bit of a loon but he had some valid points, he was frothing at the mouth by the end.

He predicts a domino effect and he also concludes that Germany and France will find it impossible to prop the project up without UK support.

I have to say I make him right.

Aside from that anecdote there's very little evidence of widespread support in other countries in the EU for leaving the EU.

Actually, genuine question to the Baron of Brexit - I need to renew my passport, should I wait until the 1st Feb, will I then get the blue one? Or is that not happening?

Get one now - its British. The blue one is printed in France isn't it?

The Danes may be the next to leave. They have never been entirely enthusiastic members of the project and are very concerned about immigration (or, more precisely, takeover by Germans).

Good points.

Contagion is the one thing the EU are terrified of. They can't have others leave as it ruins the whole political goal of a Federal Europe controlled by Brussels.

If they had reformed then I'd have voted Remain but sadly they are hell bent on total integration.

Hopefully others will see our success, after the initial shocks, and lobby from within for change or just leave.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

The polling data would suggest otherwise (this is from Spring 2019)

Usual caveats apply, but the data would suggest that amongst our European friends we are uniquely daft.

Yeah, because everyone knows that people who pushed to leave a trading organisation will inexplicably just start refusing all hospital treatment once said departure is finalised.

Meh. Never understood people’s emotional attachment to a trading organisation and don’t understand people’s emotional attachment to leaving it.

I have an emotional attachment to people not dying needlessly due to increasingly unsafe staffing because recruiting skilled, qualified people has dropped to basically nil from our nearest neighbours since January 2017 and large numbers of those here leaving due to government incompetence and public xenophobia.

and commiserations to the gullible who believed there wouldn't be a border between NI and GB

likewise those who believed there would be a deal by Dec 2020, or that the negotiations would start on Feb 1st

and who thought that the UK would not still be using EU schedules for another 5 years or so, that all the naughty foreigners would have to go home

and the recognition that other than no longer having a seat at the table, a say in matters there will be very little difference
