I love the fact a physiologist used the term “cognitive dissonance” as I’m sure I’ve made that point a few times before on here and was told I have no idea what the phrase means and I’m just using big words to sound smart :)

It’s bizarre Calis, it really is. A lot of it comes back to people being suspicious of others who don’t conform or who are different (also see similar question about why people don’t like foreigners - there’s a lot of similar stuff going on there).

As for flying food though, we tend to talk a lot about bringing foodstuff in but not so much about our exporting.
I don't know much about it; just saying it doesn't seem to crop* up much.

Definitely. I tend to use Skype before ever suggesting a meeting - mainly because the time getting to and from meetings is often dead time.
A proper meeting has its time and place* but it seems a bit old school. And beloved/abused by people who think their job is to have meetings!

I've been reading a lot of stuff from vegan doctors recently. So much of it makes sense. John McDougall says we are starch eaters. He's a little out there but I think he makes some excellent points. Since i've been including more starches (particularly potatoes which I love) i've eaten much better. Virtually no junk and not craving it. Can't remember the last time I had bacon, chicken etc. In December my diet was garbage. Far too much and virtually all junk food. Apparently people tend to eat 3-5 pounds of food a day. Obviously 3-5 pounds of veg, fruit, grains, legumes etc is a lot less calorie dense than a high processed food diet.
I'm addicted to oil free air 'fried' potatoes. |  |

Well, yes. Globally.
But still a minute fraction of the total environmental impact of shipping food which in turn is a small fraction of the environmental impact.
There’s no equivalence to the key point that it’s what you eat not where it comes from that is by far the most important consideration.
On its own I agree that flying food seems silly and counterproductive even at such a tiny scale. And if it’s propping up the airline business model and excessive flights then that needs to stop or like flying have a hefty environment tax slapped on it. | |

Yep, brought in on massive container ships. Loaded with reefer containers.
We can adjust humidity, O2, and CO2, plus many other settings.
We can pick up Bananas in Panama and adjust the settings so that by the end of the voyage they are almost ripened and ready to be put in to your supermarkets.

i've made it clear that i favour a low meat and dairy diet - by most people's standards very low in both respects. but part of a sustainable model is not eating mass produced, internationally traded, highly packaged big business industrial brands. drinking almond milk from california everyday is far worse for the planet than the very occasional rasher of local bacon.
vegans who primarily eat local grains and fruit and veg are doing lots for the planet. vegans who just buy up everything from the supermarket which says vegan on the plastic package are just keeping industrial food manufacturers in profit. |

No you can speak all you like, but still your environmental footprint will be worse off than a vegan who chugs almond milk, so it’s a bit whatteraboutery. I also highly doubt your diet contains 100% locally sourced and you eat nothing from big corporations either.
