Not great timing given the news coming out of Germany at the moment.

Seemed like a gesture to the 1922 who are desperate for re opening the economy at any cost, which is why it was so muddled.

How to get out of this is the $64k question, one not many countries are finding easy.

https://section44.co.uk/

Section 44 provides employees with the ‘right’ to withdraw from and to refuse to return to a workplace that is unsafe. Employees are entitled to remain away from the workplace (e.g. stay at home) if — in their opinion — the prevailing circumstances represent a real risk of serious and imminent danger which they could not be expected to avert.

You can throw all that nonsense out there, but it cuts no mustard in the industries l deliver to. They will say they are doing it. All the posters etc will go up for show, then off people go as normal. Rock the boat and you are gone.

People can take photos of their working conditions for evidence.

Frankly, accepting such stuff is unacceptable to me. I happily rock the boat that I am on, especially for the good of my crew. Often to my own detriment.

People need to take ownership of their sh!t.

If he is going to speak about this in more detail tomorrow in the house then he should have said work starts from Wednesday - which is what I thought he said but it doesn't seem he did now I've read the text - unless the text hasn't been transcribed correctly.

No I think (somewhat bizarrely) that unlimited exercise starts Wednesday but working is back to normal tomorrow.

And have no job? There will be millions without work anyway. Its peoples lively hoods. They wont rock the boat. Lots of people work in awful conditions, believe me. Up and down this country. Scared sh!tless of their employer and losing their jobs.

I think a lot of emplyers will pay lip service- but you would have an unfair dismissal claim...

A cynic might suggest Boris wanted to address the nation at time that maximises his viewing figures, rather than what would make logical sense.

It would be daft not to do it at a time when viewing figures would be at their optimum, I just don't see why he didn't say "Hi Ho, Hi Ho" from as soon as the details had been outlined in the house.

The main contractor we are currently working for has assessed this ( if they are liable to a claim if someone contracts Corona from work ) and their legal department , and I have it on good knowledge, that their legal team reckons that no one would be able to successfully claim that they contracted it at work, so err, carry on. Meanwhile more posters have gone up.

It was a lot clearer than I was expecting for a Johnson presentation.

However, some of the people I know are less than impressed with what he said.

Yep, he could do an announcement in the house, answer lots of questions, if there is any doubts, then do an address to the nation, announcing a start date.

My partner, an office worker, that has been working from home, has been “encouraged” to go back to the office tomorrow. Her boss has also been similarly “encouraged”, but told to isolate in his office. I guess they can still talk via zoom.

How can back to work be in place tomorrow when employers won't have had the opportunity to put measures in place or converse with their employees about how to go about this?

Well they don't have to open tomorrow, they don't have to open at all if they don't want to. I did though just watch the news and it seems some larger companies have prepared for this - even having installed temperature checks for staff on entry.

That said, it would have made a lot more sense to have advised firms to wait until it had all been confirmed in detail tomorrow in the house.

It would have made more sense if it was discussed in the Commons resulting in some kind of common consensus BEFORE he addressed the nation.

Indeed. And the differing messages across the four nations is not an ideal scenario either really. Government by briefing isn't really the way to go.
