Lee Johnson anyone? 15:35 - Sep 1 with 14416 views | itfcjoe | Local connection to the area, knows all about the club, plays decent football Improved Bristol City year on year, with some big recruitment, but also selling players for big fees, but just couldn't give them that last push I think he'll be a good manager wherever he ends up next, would be quite happy with him here

Lee Johnson anyone? on 15:54 - Sep 1 by itfcjoe | Looking at out of work managers, you'd imagine if anything were to happen it would be someone from the following list: Paul Cook Danny Cowley Lee Johnson Simon Grayson Nigel Clough Not a bad list of potential candidates. Allegedly Evans is the one driving the managers to play 433 and attacking football, so any new appointment will need to be able to do that. From what I've seen of Cook they mix it up but are comfortable on the ball, Johnson is a bit more pure whilst Cowleys are the other way |
Interesting you mention Clough. He was one who I thought would be a low risk solid Lambert replacement when I saw he left Burton. Done very well at this level, knows the league well and did well in the championship with Derby during their cutting back/ pre big spending years. Clearly not an overly exciting appointment on paper, but would do well here. Paul Cook is obviously the stand out of those 5.

I find this a most bizarre state of affairs. From practically nowhere, with not a ball kicked in competitive anger for nearly 6 months, we seem to be suddenly in a position that it's inevitable he has to go. I'm not disputing what you're saying, but the timing is a surprise. Is it a hangover from the poor end to last season that couldn't be dealt with at the time because of Covid, or have new things soured during pre-season?

We're very much in BCWYWF territory with some of these names aren't we? I do worry who ME will pick for us net when PL does finally go.

He’s seemingly chucked the towel in, he spoke to the players twice during lockdown on conference calls organised by the physio - without them it sounds like he wouldn’t have bothered. PR Paul has barely spoken to the media, unless he is on Bundesliga coverage or talking about that, according to Stu Watson who has been trying to get some pieces arranged he already has ‘media fatigue’ and will be doing the bare minimum. It’s an element of the job he dislikes. He doesn’t have relationships with the players, everything is done through his assistants - another element of the job he presumably doesn’t like. It makes you wonder what he does like about it? Compare him to the chipper bloke who came in and got the fan base and club energised, Mr Positive.....everything is like getting blood out of a stone, everything is talked down

I think any other club in the football league would already have dismissed him by now, so it didn't take much in pre-season to reach this stage.

Lee Johnson anyone? on 19:30 - Sep 1 by The_Romford_Blue | Would very much hope Paul Cook would be the number 1 target if he’s still available. Proven in the division too. However, Evans is appointing the new man so I expect it’ll be someone equally as useless as Lambert. |
100% Paul Cook, for me. He'll nail it.

He and Danny Crowley are both the best available managers for us on paper, but every time we get a managerial appointment we are quickly disappointed, except with Mick, who openly talked about operating with one hand behind his back. There is something wrong at the club, and if PL goes, I think our only hope is a complete re-structure from the playing squad all the way up to the owner.
