Is it possible to disagree with the BLM movement on 12:52 - Sep 18 by Swansea_Blue
No worries - I've never seen either of them. Both performances look pretty similar to me - just throw in a few shields!
I can see why it would trigger people who don't think black lives matter. It's a strong, positive message.
They're absolutely brilliant performers, and I thought it very sad that people didn't get the wider message out of it either, re environment, unity, caring, as well as BLM.
I wonder if part of the problem was the lighting - it wasn't just metaphorically dark in parts, but literally throughout most of it - I found it hard to actually see the dancers in some sections.

Unfortunately I don't think it was the lighting they were complaining about.

As I said earlier in the thread, there's regular moaning every week at all sorts of performers who use BGT as a platform to promote "causes", tho never before a storm on this scale.

I don't think it takes a genius to understand why the 25k people that complained were triggered by it.

As I said before also, the main complaint from those I read on twitter were that people just wanted a mental break for 2 hours from the crappy real world that they've been bombarded with for the last 6 months on all media.

To the people the think that (not you!) yes, I'm sure Black people would like a break from from the crappy real world that they've been bombarded with for centuries too!

But that is entirely conditional it seems. There was no outcry over the intrusive reality of the Remembrance Day, shadow dancing thingummy a few years back.

Are those the same people that took the time to complain officially or are they just people whinging on twitter? In either case, they've wasted more time complaining about the performance than they spent watching it, which given they are so precious about their down time seems rather odd. I also wonder why this in particular triggered them? Perhaps it is an innocent as you say but I suspect there's some unconscious bias going on as well.

Quite the opposite.
It is the opposite. Anyone on TV or in the sports, arts and general entertainment business is immediately set upon as a traitorous and ungrateful bastard should they be seen in public without a poppy between the months of August and December.

The ones I read were just twitter whingers, really have no idea of whether they complained as well.
There were actually also hundreds of massively positive tweets about the performance, just to provide some perspective - in fact I'd say the yays outnumbered the nays a few hours after the performance.

Still rather depressing that 25,000 people saw fit to lodge formal complaints about the performance.

Of course.
But speaking for myself now, I find I just can't get through life constantly switched on to all the numerous social & political issues that make me seethe about all the injustices and ills there are in this world - I need some time totally switched off from all of it to relax & recharge batteries, whether that's via a couple of hours of music or football/cricket matches etc. Doing that enables me to return to the fray with far more energy, so taking time off is a positive thing, not negative. No use to anyone of you burn yourself out.
Having said all that, hardly found watching Diversity's performance 2 weeks ago draining, quite the opposite, got me energised & buzzing!
Seems some of the negative reaction (maybe much more of it from what I'm reading now) was down to parents thinking it wasn't suitable for younger kids, but as I'm not a parent I wouldn't want to comment on that.

I don’t agree with much HB posts. We are politically opposite.
However, he’s an injured veteran. I wouldn’t like to start calling him anything based on his posts, I’ve not walked in his shoes. I don’t know the ins and outs of how he was injured, I don’t want to know. I don’t want to bring something up that has caused him pain.
Let’s remember that behind usernames, some people are genuinely hurt.
But then, there are some like GaryCooper who may be what you suggest.

Marxism and destruction of society are the things at the core of BLM! It's well documented.
I don't see why my point is so hard for you or the other left wingers here to accept.
Clean the argument from politics and let decent people get involved.
Your insults and assumptions of me are merely tepid breath. All you are doing is proving yourself to be intolerant and frankly ignorant.
Too many on the left are bigots, closed minded bigots. The only hope is that the scales might fall from the eyes of some of them as they mature and they see how mistaken they have been. They see a deeply racist country. I see one of the greatest countries on the planet for a black man or woman to be born in and live in. Everything is open to anyone in this country. The cruellest thing anyone can say to a black child is that society is stacked against them. There is a desire on the left on both sides of The Atlantic to infantilise blacks and persuade them to see themselves as victims rather than full and equal members of society. This is arrogant, condescending, patronising but worst of all it damages the lives of so many; but of course the leftists get to feel smug and superior and ultimately that is what matters most to many of them. Nothing I have read on any thread on this message-board suggests that any poster is a true racist though it's quite possible I've missed one. But the left aren't interested in that. They are like the Witchfinder General; they're convinced there are racists galore everywhere so it stands to reason (their reason) there must be several on here. Of course it is possible to disagree with the BLM movement and not be a racist; most non-racists do.
