I've just seen the clips from Twitter as I don't have a licence to watch on Iplayer but bloody hell, these heartless individuals... They're all preaching personal responsibility, while voting for a policy that will ensure whether or not kids eat is determined by their parents income, which they have no control over.

First we have Brendan Clarke Smith accusing those wanting to feed kids of "virtue signalling." He's the same bloke who was caught denying the scale of food banks during his election hustings.

And Kieran Mullen, claiming that it's not the state's job to feed kids.

The fact that any child or adult, in this country should go hungry or go without a roof over their heads is an utter disgrace, and some form of legislation should be in place to stop this going to a vote based on a few hundred people’s opinions, if politicians feel it could lead to dependency, then they should have done an initial 3 months to get us through Christmas, and then had a review of what to do going forward. There should be more transparency on government spending in this country.. and it goes for both parties not just the tories, they are all as bad as each other, and all we get is drip fed lies through the media.

I used the ONS figures and did some data searching for you. This is for 2019

https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/asv2htm.aspx

530, 841 people aged under 19 and under died, 136 of malnutrition in 2019. (Apologies for missign out the bloody important bit!)

"530, 841 people aged under 19"

You may want to check that one. Quick look at 2018 figures shows they were around 600k in total deaths that year. So can't see that being correct.

Can't see any malnutrition figures on the ONS, be interested to see the source.

Edit: Just found some malnutrition figures on the ONS. Cheers.

Yeah I edited it as I missed the 136 and didn't change that evidently. You can go in and adjust a range of parameters then download it.

I only selected malnutrition and ages upto 15-19. 136 was the figure it gave for 2019. Let's suppose I'm totally wrong and half cut, the assertion no one dies of hunger in this country is wrong isn't it?

Another poster has highlighted a well publicised case that encapsulates the circle of neglect and social failures that allowed it to happen. Even if in the unlikely event that is one death, and it got picked up and reported, it's one too many isn't it?

The fact we are even haggling over how many kids starved to death in this country in any given year is utterly staggering isn't it?

I'm not haggling mate. It is fcking disgusting that anyone would die of malnutrition in the UK.

Anyone who votes for the people that have overseen the recent rise in foodbanks and does little to address it is as bad as those in power imho.

Let’s put it another way

A mate of win works in a school , the parents get vouchers for a specified supermarket ? They go to the check outs get the till receipt and pay at customer services .

The receipt is then sent to the school

You wouldn’t believe how many of them had non essential food one in fact had 5 bottles of vodka

The whole thing is an absolute farce and gullible people like you fall for it every time

'' More than 3m people in Britain are going hungry because of the coronavirus crisis, according to new research showing that stark drops in income have pushed many families into poverty during the lockdown.

The Food Foundation, a research organisation, said on Saturday that 6 per cent of surveyed adults, the equivalent of 3m people, told them that a lack of food had forced someone in their household to go without eating during the past three weeks.

In the survey of 4,343 adults, which was carried out by polling organisation YouGov on behalf of the Food Foundation, 16 per cent of respondents, the equivalent of a total of 8.1m people, said they had faced food insecurity of some kind as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The sharp rise in food poverty is being driven by self-isolation and a lack of money as an unprecedented economic shutdown leaves millions of workers newly unemployed, furloughed or dependent on government support.

“There is a food poverty problem that has not been dealt with, and we’re seeing the results of that now,” said Anna Taylor, executive director of the Food Foundation. “On top of that, we have new problems around isolation and shortages – people are telling us they simply can’t get out to get the food they need.”

According to the survey, 3 per cent of respondents, the equivalent of 1.5m people, had gone a whole day without eating since the lockdown came into effect.

Among those who said they were facing food insecurity, 50 per cent said they were struggling because of pandemic-related shortages and 25 per because they could not leave their homes to shop.

Some 21 per cent were hungry because they simply did not have enough money. More than 2 per cent of respondents, the equivalent of 1m people, said they had lost all their income since the lockdown had begun. Some independent food banks have seen demand increase in the past fortnight by as much as 300 per cent compared to the same time last year.

Experts have warned that a response that focuses only on food banks will fail to address the underlying causes of food poverty, and risk “institutionalising” food aid.

“The amount of people needing to go to food banks is not remedied by food banks,” Ms Goodwin said. “The problem is a lack of income and a lack of food. It stems from the fact that there is a level of poverty that is being ignored.” Financial Times

See, now that really is fake news.

The vouchers have clearly defined restrictions and certainly cannot be used on alcohol.

There is absolutely no chance a supermarket would accept them as payment for vodka. Not in a million years, the staff member would lose their job and the supermarket would lose a load of high value, low margin, spirits.

Either your mate is lying or you are.

The trouble with the radical left Paz is they dont think anyone has a right to a different point of view...there is absolutely no need for any child to starve in this country - Me and my wife receive £160 a month for our 2 children, there are also unemployment benefits, Universal Tax Credits and as a last resort food banks....Marcus Rashford seems to be a very humble caring young man and I have complete admiration for him, but ultimately it has to be the parents responsibilty to look after their children, as a nation we seem to be getting more and more reliant on hand outs and freebies from the government which unfortunately now sees us 2 Trillion in debt which will now be a massive burden on our children for decades to come...
