Vaccine priority List 10:21 - Dec 2 with 25888 views | itfcpaul | Just been published and looks like the majority of us won't get it for months, maybe even after Spring at the earliest, looks like a long haul to get this vaccine to everyone, that's even if we can get 120 million that we need..... And on a football note, please Mr. Lambert will you leave our club

Vaccine priority List on 10:42 - Dec 2 by ArnoldMoorhen | It's an interesting priority list because it puts the emphasis purely on mortality rate per category. An alternative would be to say "let's maximise the effect on transmission rates": 1. Frontline NHS and other key workers (including care home staff and carers for the housebound and nominated care home and housebound visitors) 2.Anyone who is working at their workplace, rather than at home. 3. Other working age adults (maybe tiered by age) in higher transmission areas 4. Other working age adults (maybe tiered by age) in lower transmission areas 5. Active retired people 6. Care Home Residents and the Housebound (if their carers and nominated visitors are vaccinated (and Covid protocols continue to be followed) then the risk of transmission to them is minimised, which should be the priority) Do it this way round and things can return to normal much more quickly. |
Indeed. They said priority is based on mortality data from March to June 2020

Vaccine priority List on 10:43 - Dec 2 by StokieBlue | There has been no government spin about everyone getting it in weeks. It's been very clear from the outset that there would be a priority list based on risk. It's about the only thing they have been clear on. SB |
I would be 6 on the list - I am just hoping they don;t mess it up (I am still furious about the flu jab stuff this year and the fact I had to get mine done in Boots as opposed to my surgery and my Dad who is vulnerable had to wait till mid November for his). I so hope that an orderly and sensible rollout will happen. I am scared of how I will react to it but rather that than have covid.

Why are you scared of how you will react? The testing showed barely any adverse affects over a possible headache. SB

Vaccine priority List on 10:24 - Dec 2 by ElderGrizzly | This is the priority for the first wave: 1 Older adults resident in a care home and care home workers 2 All those 80 years of age and over. Front line health and social care workers 3 All those 75 years of age and over 4 All those 70 years of age and over 5 All those 65 years of age and over 6 All Individuals aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions. 7 Moderate-risk adults under 65 years of age 8 All those 60 years of age and over 9 All those 55 years of age and over 10 All those 50 years of age and over 11 The rest of the population (priority to be determined). |
There was a minor change to the list four days ago. Those at extreme risk were moved up to join over 70’s. There are however some on the extreme list for which a vaccine may not be suitable, they will have to wait and see if the idea of directly injecting antibodies gains approval but that will be spring at the earliest.

The worst I have heard is that it is like a hangover. Some people go out of their way to get one of them so we should see a great deal of enthusiasm for the vaccine.

My point was the majority were never going to get vaccinated until post Spring - thats not new information. I'm no fan of Boris et al but I don't think they have ever implied otherwise.

Vaccine priority List on 11:50 - Dec 2 with 1462 views | OhDavidMcgoldrick | This dosent take into consideration that once the vulnerable are vaccinated, things will naturally open up again and restrictions will be eased substantially. I can even imagine that once the over 50s are vaccinated there will no longer be restrictions which could well be by May next year.

Vaccine priority List on 10:27 - Dec 2 by itfcpaul | yes, but according to them you are least at risk..... |
According to science he's least at risk. At that age with no underlying conditions the odds of Covid killing you or requiring hospital treatment are miniscule. Those who aren't at increased risk don't need to be vaccinated before some restrictions can start being lifted. I think we're looking at 9 months at least until things are back to where they were pre-Covid but I'd be surprised if we aren't seeing gradual lifting of restrictions from around March when a decent number of high priority people will have been vaccinated. Bear in mind we have 100m doses of the Oxford vaccine on order and that ought to be approved relatively soon hopefully.

I think there will still be some restrictions (huge packed in concerts for instance) but they will be relaxed with each tranche of people vaccinated. Worth noting we don't know the longevity of the protection yet so it's entirely possible everyone will need to be vaccinated again in a years time and subsequently annually unless the reservoir of C19 infections becomes so small it's not an issue. Quite. I'm in cat 4, and what struck me is that if the protection only lasts (say) 6 months, us cat 4 people might have been better off being lower down the list & getting vaccinated in early Autumn to ensure protection over winter, rather than getting vaccinated in Spring with the lesser risk of summer ahead. Unless the point is recognised & autumn "top-ups" appropriate & available of course.

All the best, Debsy. Lots of people have quite pronounced anxiety symptoms as a result of being in this heightened state of alert for so long. Although you may be socially distanced, you are not on your own! I've found myself retreating to a state of almost permanent lockdown. I have to go out twice a week for essential work tasks, so do that. I live and work in the highest transmission rate area of a city, and work with a lot of vulnerable people. My wife works in a Primary School, and my son who lives with us is working in a Supermarket. Their risk exposure is very high. I am quite ambivalent about getting Covid myself, but very anxious about being the one who passes it on to a vulnerable person. I've turned down offers to meet up for coffee with colleagues. I am now taking high dose Vitamin D, as I live in Edinburgh and have become a shut-in, so see little sun. I had been taking Multi Vitamins, because Vitamin D deficiency was identified as a key factor in Covid complications VERY early on, but a friend pointed out that the dose of Vitamin D in those may be fine to supplement an average person in Spring or Summer in England, but not a recluse in winter in Scotland! It has made a difference to the degree of anxiety that I am feeling. It's the one simple thing that we all can do to make a difference to our chances of survival if we do contract the virus. We finally bit the bullet and booked a holiday abroad for June 2021. I'm just hoping we are vaccinated by then. Worst case scenario is that the appointment for the first vaccination falls just before we go, and then the second is due during the holiday dates.
