It was a good display yesterday, not brilliant, and potentially a false dawn with some defensive frailty.

But some of our movement and passing was exquisite - plus some defensive play from Downes, matheson and Kenlock to drool over.

That was the kind of display and footballing style we’ve wanted for a decade; BUT it was Blackpool in the third tier, with their most effective player missing. Expect the Shrews next will actually test us again.

Oh Jesus wept.... there was absolutely excellent passing and play yesterday; and it’s something to celebrate. Watch the frickin highlights, and tell me that the Dozzell and a number of other triangles of passing wasn’t exquisite for a downtrodden town fan base to enjoy?

Now read the fact I was caveating the praise with the point that it’s not something to get carried away with.

Come on, man! It’s Sunday. Cheer up. This group that patrol the board with their agenda are really tiresome.

We won, this is good.

Lambert remains a clueless pr1ck.

Blackpool, like us, are a crap side in Division 3.

That's about it.

This is rather rich coming from you, Gary lad. You've spent most of your posting career being anti something or other.

How would you know that champ?

Anyway how is Dumfries and Galloway? I lived in Kirkcudbright for a while and feasted on the Scallops.

I'd give up if I were you, there are some on here who refuse to see any positives whilst ME and PL are in charge!

I'm very much in the 'PL must go' camp, but he's not going anytime soon, is he, and amongst all the doom and gloom, yesterday was a decent performance against one of the 15+ bang ordinary teams in this league, so let's enjoy it for a while and *hope* that it can be carried on to the next dozen games or more.

It was a decent performance with some good passing. The first goal was nicely taken too. Overall, a mid table Division 3 team deservedly beating a poorer one.

I really cant see Peterborough being kept awake at night over that, especially when put against ITFCs miserable efforts against the top ten for the last two seasons.

I know that from reading your posts, mate. But I have no desire to argue with you and am glad you're taking a positive mindset.

Yeah, it's nice enough up here. No snow though.

Also don't think we played that well before the two goals - and Blackpool had the better chances at that stage - so the improved display was largely as Blackpool chased the game.

Exactly.

The defence looked fragile and prone to an error, plus Blackpool lacked their main striker. So expect normal service against the Posh or Oxford.

Football becomes a much easier game when you have a two goal lead against a midtable third division side missing their main goal threat.

"But some of our movement and passing was exquisite"

"wonderful passing and endeavour".

"No ones getting carried away".

Spot the odd one out.

This is just mild hyperbole for UB. You'll know he's properly going over the top when he starts wittering on about technical football again.

Maybe, but slightly surprised at the reaction to the performance. Thought it was middling until the goals, then we made much of the game situation thereafter, albeit without taking our further chances.

Having said that, even middling was somewhat better than a lot of recent games.

It becomes much easier when you get the first goal. Goals change games. The fact we went 20 games without a first half goal is appalling. I remember it being a similar issue last season too.

I watched the match.

The state of the fanbase doesn't affect whether the passing was exquisite or not. Many posters are showing realism and accuracy rather than resorting to hyperbole.

I would say it's even more fickle to start waxing lyrical about small parts of a single performance and then jumping on people when they make point out it was Blackpool and it wasn't like watching Barcelona even if it was better. Nobody is saying it wasn't better, the language being used is ridiculous though.

You've just done the same but going the other way, though. Not a single person has said it was like watching Barcelona.

People love to exaggerate on TWTD, on both sides of the argument.

I've not done that though. From the language used in his opening post one would think it was like watching a masterful attacking side although that wasn't even my point, I just picked a random good team as a counterbalance to the point that it was Blackpool and we were decent at best.

Impressive stuff whoever the opposition, but it is the level that we ought to be at week-in, week-out at this level, with the players we have, injuries or no injuries. The only thing that concerns me after a performance like that is the number of shots we need to even get on target, let alone score. Considering they are paid far more (even at this level) then most of us will ever get paid specifically for being able to kick a football accurately, it is a disgraceful return. Even if we play as well as this against Peterborough, I don't see us creating enough chances to beat them.

Still, much, much better than it has been.

"jumping on people when they make point out it was Blackpool and it wasn't like watching Barcelona even if it was better."

The Barcelona point was nothing to do with the Blackpool point. You said it wasn't like watching Barcelona and my point is nobody suggested it was.

Why does it have to be a boring afternoon for someone to challenge that? You used hyperbole, the thing you've been accusing others of.

The most exaggeration I've seen of yesterday's performance was that it was "brilliant." By all means challenge that. No need to build straw men.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

You state - “ I would say it's even more fickle to start waxing lyrical about small parts of a single performance and then jumping on people when they make point out it was Blackpool and it wasn't like watching Barcelona even if it was better.”

But I’d already said:

“BUT it was Blackpool in the third tier, with their most effective player missing.“

You’re overstating what is just some town fans enjoying a good performance, all seem to be stating we won’t do as well when properly tested.

It’s a football fans forum, if people’s views and enthusiasm are different to yours, then call it out. But do it in a way if we’d just met in a pub after the game. Civility is free.

Local media getting involved as well.

Here’s stuart Watson view of game:

“This was an energetic, encouraging, enjoyable and, ultimately, emphatic win.”

Andy Warren:

“Every player seemed comfortable with some promising signs. The most encouraging thing, for me, is they can all go up a gear as well”

Sorry but the media have got to tread carefully otherwise theyll be seen as having an Agenda, like someone on this thread has mentioned about 'negative posters'

Now I missed the first half yesturday so can't comment on it, but I did watch the second and whilst you are correct there was some very nice passing on display, there wasn't anything special about it infact it was the bare minimum you expect from a league team, the difference with us though was we appeared to have purpose.

The problem for me, is we still look very suspect at the back, even Judge's goal rewind and see how different that scoreline could have been as really blackpool should have been 1 on 1 with the keeper but for a poor final ball. Things that teams above us simply put to bed against us, and this is still the worry, It's no good being good enough to beat those below if you can't beat those above

So before people start raving about the new signings etc, lets just how the next month goes.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.
