Apologies, 11 then. I make 5 players from that list available for transfer. So with 2 new signings, that leaves 4 of them he wanted to keep - which is in line with what I've heard, plus what Brett Johnson said about us keeping 10% of over 40+ players. | |

Arguably Woolf and Downes could be part of that too although I’m guessing not from noises around the club, and perhaps even Norwood is seen as an option rather than our main striker
We need to start filling in some of those blanks fairly quickly, without a doubt
That said - I fully expect to see 4-5 signings arriving in the next week or so, in which case panic over
So that’s 5 of what I believe to be Cook’s desired starting XI currently on the book, and 6 places to fill. No idea why people are getting nervy though |  |

My point is, the distribution of the players between squads is always at the Manager's discretion (in the absence of an all-powerful DoF or an overly interfering Owner). Why bother spelling it out, unless to send a message? | |

Also, you can't compare the two anyway, Hurst had no experience of doing what he had to do and at a higher level, PC does.

Absolutely this.
Alan Lee (who knows Cook very well) said in his BM interview he believes 100% that Cook saying everyone can go is a motivational tactic (with the implicit unsaid bit being "unless you prove to me you want to stay and fight for your place").
This is just an extension of that IMO. The bit about "this may change at the discretion of the manager" stands out by a mile. I can't believe people aren't seeing this, and I'm very surprised at another normally sensible and respected poster getting the jitters. |  |

That's good but surely Dobra has already proved that he's up for the fight by his performances at the end of last season and comments recently.
