The frustrating thing is, we arguably should (penalty miss, Bonne, various errors) be on 7 points, minimum.

Football can be a bitch, especially as a Town fan.

Totally agree.

There's only so much a manager can do. It's very easy to think of individual errors (Bonne miss v Cheltenham, Fraser penalty miss v Burton, Woolfenden v Morecambe etc) to add at least 8+ more points which would see us sat in 8-10th place and none of us would be too disheartened with that.

As fans we've endured some dire times in the past 20 years and this is one time I really believe we should hold fire for a short while and be patient.

Who remembers Norwich taking a whooping at home to Colchester? They then went on to be champions.

tbh I would get it right eventually with the squad we have in the shower of a division we are in!

I spoke to him a few weeks back in Sainsburys, and one thing I'm clinging onto is the fact that he's so positive and determined, he's infectious in his desire to succeed.

If I had an employee with his attitude I would be very happy, lets just hope this is teething problems rather than root canal issues.

He's a top bloke, though possibly just a tad football obsessed. Still incredibly popular around Sligo

if you start out anti the manager, at any club, you ultimately might end up being right.

some prefer to support.

I'm sorry but thats stupidly naive.

I don't know anyone who didn't support Cook when he first came in. Since then, people have made judgements on him based on performances and results on the pitch.

That's kind of how it works.

"he says that he thinks there will be another 2-3 weeks of pain until the ‘sun starts shining’"

This is obviously open to interpretation but Its not exactly the mindset I would hope for in our Manager. With the squad we have we should be expecting to win every match in League One, not pinning our hopes on two players coming back in a few weeks.

2-3 more weeks of pain because, despite dumping last year’s squad and bringing in nearly 20 new players he’s overly reliant on a couple of players rather than working out how to set up the remainder (who, for the most part, should be at least decent at this level) without them.

I hope he does and ideally soon (I'm visiting my parents in Suffolk soon from North Carolina and will be at the Sheff Wed and maybe Shrewsbury games, suffering via Ifollow at the moment). I'm unimpressed with Cook so far - he took over a team with some at least half decent players, with potential and who had been at the club for a while (Downes, Dozzell, Bishop, Norwood) and instead of building on that - taking the attitude the playoffs were possible and instilling that confidence in the players, he undermined their confidence by saying they could basically all leave. Somewhat disrespectful. As a manager your job is to get the best out of the resources you have, which he clearly hasn't been able to do so far. Unless he gets some input from someone appropriate, why should that change in 2-3 weeks ? By bringing in so many new players he's created a huge challenge for himself which he hasn't shown he can meet. Do the players want to play for him - given the (IMO) disrespectful way he treated the players when he came to the club ? Do they trust him ? Can they see something going forward that they want to buy into ? I hope he can turn things around but I haven't seen any evidence he can do that and that's worrying. He needs to instil confidence in the players but if they don't have confidence in him that's going to be difficult.

I actually had a chat with him last night, he says that he thinks there will be another 2-3 weeks of pain until the ‘sun starts shining’. By that point he’ll have got his best team out consistently and fit etc in his view and that will be when things turn with results and complete performances

You’d imagine that Ashton is aware of this and that in agreement that he’ll be given this time - but who knows

I want to believe but at the moment it sounds as realistic as 'this time next year Rodney we'll be millionaires'.

when i spoke with him in the greyhound after the fleetwood 3-1 win last season, i must say he was such a likeable positive bloke, absolutely adores the game and i was so so glad he was our manager.

most of the conversation was about how he's settling into the area, decent places around suffolk to visit etc, but he seemed the one more keen on making it a football chat.

i really want paul cooks blue and white army to be one that works, and works well

Lambert took over and within weeks he had turned things around

Ironically it was Lambert who Cook took over from - and he, Cook, also turned things around - the results got worse.

Unlike Lambert at the scum Cook has been able to bring in a whole new squad, the coaching staff are his - so who is responsible for us being almost at the bottom ?

What magical formula might he come up with that he has not come up with in the past six months/25 games ?

Agree. Personally I think he's assembled a squad way better than the one we had. The goalkeeping position is the only one that I'm not sold on and has cost us bad goals which is a killer for the outfield players. But they need support to help their confidence, and Cook needs to be given a decent crack at it, the level of impatience is unfortunate nowadays.

My fear is that he hasn't been the one who has picked this side.
To many players don't follow PC usual type but certainly follow Ashtons.

Hopefully it will work.. but I don't think PC has any club what is or can be his best 11.

I disagree. Strikers will never score every good opportunity they get. I am sure opposition sides can point to moments like when Holy drops the ball and it looks like it crosses the line but it isn't given.

The problem we have isn't failing to take our chances. We have scored in every league match we have played, averaging 1.67 goals per game. Our issue is that we have conceded at least 2 goals in every match, averaging 2.33 goals against per game. That record is getting worse instead of better as well. If we had picked up injuries and had sending offs against Bolton you might be able to argue we might have been unlucky. Instead we have taken the lead multiple times and thrown it away every time. We have gone behind several times and only pulled it back once (or three times if Burton before losing and Bolton back to 2-2 before we capitulated counts as well).

Celina... dijon agents
Burns.. BC
Fraser.. ignored as a PC 10
Pigott.. not a 1 uptop striker, does not suit PC formation
Edwards/Harper.. higher level not made it.. very unlike PC
Plus we wanted Jacobs
Barry... Well just why?

Sometimes, it can be so frustrating to try and understand presumptions by other fans.
Cook would never let control leave him and most know that.

Because its a presumption that he wouldn't accept it.

He made the decision to make changes to the playing squad. He made it known through his conversations who was and wasn't required. He also as we know tried to go for more than 1 Wigan player, its not to much of a presumption to feel Ashton got involved in some transfers when cook was missing out on pcs preferred targets after we had been left with a shell of a squad.

Theres nothing to say ashton did anything without PC acceptance. End of day we needed new players.
But the squad does not look like a sole PC chosen squad.

PC mentions the lateness of our signings alot. It would also not be looking to far into things to suggest Leam staying at Wigan complete ruined PC ideal target list.

Posting up accurate figures is not trolling

Lambert took over a team rock bottom - Cook took over a team just outside the playoffs

Lambert had to work with another managers squad - Cook has been able to work with virtually a whole new squad of his own making.

An even as bad as Lambert was with someone else's squad - his points average was 20% higher (over those games)than Cooks is now with his own squad, after supposedly spending the squillions Lambert never had.
