Meanwhile, the Blues remain interested in Leicester City striker George Hirst. The 23-year-old scored 15 goals on loan for League One club Portsmouth last season, with Pompey keen to bring him back. It's believed that Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers wants to take a look at the front man in pre-season before deciding what his next move should be.

Does it strike anyone else that our big money, marquee signing being a left back would be a little unconventional.
LB has been a key weakness for us for years, if this addresses that then I’m more than happy for him to be our big signing. As others have said there may still be more yet anyway.

If only we spent that on a rb rather than putting chambers there for all those years.
Usual youtube caveats aside, looks like a technically decent player that can run with the ball, find a teammate under pressure and ping a pass. Interestingly looks like he dropped into CB a few times in this clip too.
£1m is quite a sum for a player with c. 25 league apps

While I agree with other posters that this could signal the end of both Penney and Burgess at Town, I would not rule out Edmundson moving on either. He is not a left sided CB and could lose out to Nbada on the left side of a three.
MA is not averse to some wheeling and dealing and we could turn a nice profit on Edmundson if KM does not believe he fits our system.

I'm not sure that's all true as Edmundson had been playing well in this team prior to his injury.
I suspect any chance of a move this summer, for a decent fee, went when he got injured. If we spent the best part of £1m on him, I suspect we'd be looking at 3-4 times that if we was to sell, and I can only imagine we'll get that if he has an injury free season and plays out of skin.

Edmunson would take a huge bid for us to sell him. I do agree with Penny and Burgess we will surely look at offers.

Ah cool, probably the only player in entire season to do so.
Cheers
You said no issues at all. He did cause issues. And the defence was weaker with him in it. Just how it was. No needs for him with the backups we already have.

I really like Edmundson. I think the issue with him is he's far from the overlapping left sided centre half that we ideally have in that position, a la JD on the right, unless he can bring that to his game this season. In an ideal world it's probably an either / or between him and Woolfy centrally, and for me Edmundson wins that battle. Although with the current batch I think he's still the best option on the left, with Woolfy centrally.
If Davis is being signed with a view to being on the left of the 3 then it would be great if we could keep Woolf, Edmundson and JD and it be 3 from those 4. Baggott and Ndaba as back ups, freeing up Burgess to move on. He's strong and great in the air, but I don't think he's good enough on the ball really and wouldn't lose any sleep if he goes.
If Davis is viewed more as an out and out wing back, then it presumably spells the end for Penney, which again is fine.

It's such a weird dynamic that Woolfenden deserves to stay in, Doncien deserves to stay in and I could see someone like Davis or Ndaba possibly as the left sided centre half doing what JD does on the right and that leaves Edmundson out of the team.
Yet Edmundson is possibly our best defender! But he's very much needing to play in that central role, Wolf could play in the right role, but you simply can't drop JD when him and Burns link so well and Wolf has taken his chance with Edmundson out of the side.
Edmundson was brilliant but was a liability at times on the left of the three getting caught in possession. Nice problem to have.
We could potentially have 3 excellent centre backs for those two places on the right and in the centre.

This myth that Ndaba is all of a sudden better than Edmundson is absolutely crazy talk.
Before his injury, Edmundson was superb, people tipping him for the Prem in the future. Woolf then came into form and Edmundson got injured, some people are writing him off.
I hope Ndaba does well, but a back 3 of JD, Woolf and Edmundson picks itself,if all are fit.
Note, this isn’t specifically about your post, seen a lot of rubbish on Twitter as well as here to be honest about Edmundson.

Agree with this. Would hope to see Ndaba feature in all the Cup games and if Burgess sticks around then potentially push him out of the routine match day squad

Last season, with a back 3 of Donacien-Woolfenden-Edmundson we conceded 6 goals in 15 games, keeping 10 clean sheets in the process.
Scale that up to a season and we concede 18 goals, keep 31 clean sheets and without question we win the league. No way on Earth we should think beyond that unit as our first choice.

I think on another thread you were talking about levels of players - for me Edmundson and Woolf are our 2 Championship quality defenders - i really like JD, but I'd say that he, and even Burns, aren't 2 I'd expect to kick on if we went up with the all round quality in their game.
All players have some facets of their game that are Championship quality, and some even higher, but all rounf it's Woolf and Edmundson for me that the defence has to be built around

I have to agree. Long term I'd see Edmundson in the centre and Wolf doing what JD does, if we stuck with three centre halves.

I rate Edmundson very highly, My point is that if we are playing three at the back, is he the best option on the left, where he is expected to get forward and support the left wingback?
We never really got the left side of the team functioning last season as well as the right, and the left sided CB was part of the problem all season.
I think Edmundson is better in the centre if playing three at the back.
