I don’t think I’ve ever been to speedway. Is it still a thing in Ipswich? I used to love getting stuck behind a moped while driving when you can sit there and enjoy those fumes. Don’t seem to have the same smell nowadays. | |

I was going to post that! There's a line in the Lenin of the Rovers spoof of Apocalypse Now - Apocalypse Des, set in the Central American republic of El Telvador - where the Kurtz character, whose name was something along the lines of Colonel C Hopper Harris, if I remember rightly, says "I love the smell of shinpads in the morning".

Tar is the closest thing possibly for me to triggering some sort of childhood trauma.
Got covered in the stuff playing with my mates over Bramford Lane. Went home and my mum went mental. Spent about an hour cleaning it off me and told me I was grounded for the day.
I moaned so much that she gave in. Off I went on my bike, only to be hit by a stray football, over the handlebars, teeth knocked out, blood everywhere, landing in almost the exact same patch of tar.
