Whilst 15 I was playing right midfield for my school and for one match I had an absolute 10/10 performance. Everything went well, I was superb, playing passes with the outside of my foot, winning headers and going past opposition players like they weren’t there and I scored a hat trick.
Anyway, someone connected to Colchester was watching that game and he must have thought he had found a star. Anyway, normal service resumed for the trial match and I was appalling. I mean really uncoordinated and played like I had no idea about football. The scout even came up to me just to make sure that I wasn’t a twin or some mix up had happened.
To this day I haven’t got a clue what happened on the day that I was magnificent - I was like a different person. |  | | |

My claim to fame is that at around age 15, when playing left back for Kirton Kestrels, I was praised by the opposition manager for keeping their right winger quiet all game. Said right winger has since gone on to play for AFC Sudbury, Bury Town and Hadleigh, and once notched 2 goals as a sub against ITFC U21s.

Cheltenham came knocking and offered a trial when they were in the GM Vauxhall Conference.

I played for a few teams back in the 90s, Woodbridge Town reserves (for 4 seasons) being the peak of my achievements. Could probably have played at a higher level than that, but it was all a bit too serious.
LW/LB with the ability to cross and score with either foot, set piece taker for most teams too.
47 now so arguably past my prime, but still hold my own in a 7 a side game every Tuesday at Whitton Sports Centre. |  |
