And wasn't it the previous manager and recruitment team that wanted him? Who's left from those dark days?

Ashton? Or do you mean Lambert wanted him during the Evans era?

Cook and whoever he had doing his scouting. Probably himself.

Ah right. Ashton's still here then. Don't expect to get Crooks but wouldn't be overly surprised to get another CM in if we're looking to move Evans on. I can't see Luongo managing a full season so the question is how much we trust Taylor, Ball and Evans to play that role.

Matt Crooks on 08:49 - Aug 23 with 5064 views | BlueySwede | If Morsy was injured, Crooks would be a great backup and/or competition for Luongo. However can´t find any links/reports about us being interested?

He's played as a striker for Boro...

He can play up front too can’t he. Seems ideal given his flexibility.

Can he play the number ten role? We do seem short of options to cover Chaplin. As said, he only signed a new contract with Boro last month so for them to sell would be a surprise.

Is taylor cover for chaplin?

Matt Crooks on 08:57 - Aug 23 with 4915 views | geg1992 | I think he's exactly what we need. A completely different option to Chaplin. Adds physicality - McKenna often says how he's looking for players that bring something different, he certainly does. Can also play up front so offers us more cover for there. I assume we are struggling to get the strikers we want as the market is so inflated, so perhaps this gives us an additional option until January worst case.

Chaos option up front off the bench and perhaps more pertinently a tried & tested operator if/when we need to go with a midfield three.

I did wonder that originally, but the more I look into his style of play he seems to be operate deeper. Happy to be told otherwise!

He played there for posh in the playoff semi where he was awarded man of the match. However, my thinking is that he's predominantly cover for Luongo. Crooks would be a utility man mainly playing the 10 role. Im really not convinced he would be coming here to sit on the bench and be used as an impact sub. Looks as though boro have been using him as a striker recently because they dont have anyone better and their fans have gone from thinking he's fantastic to thinking he's very poor. Weird one imo because how can he take chaplins role without causing unrest in the dressing room after last seasons return and his attitude.

Cook brought in some of our best players. Knowledge of players was never his issue. He started the biggest job of his life at the same time his Dad died: https://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/news/2021/september/interview-coley-looks-ah It's a tough business which is utterly results driven, and doesn't make allowances. Of all the Pauls, I have a lot of sympathy for him. Hurst: nah.

Wasn't having a dig at cook, just making the observation that last time we tried to sign crooks it was a different manager and we didn't have our new fangled recruitment team from man u. Different people rate players differently.

We don't know who was pushing for Crooks at the time - whether it was a Cook target or an Ashton/club target.
