It's amazing how quickly they turned round the 'verdict' on Biden but are allowing Trump's lawyers to continue to delay on the subject of confidential materials.
Looks like Trump's trial on the Georgia trial may now conclude by October after the immunity case was dismissed, so we could have a convicted felon and one for trying to overthrow an election, standing to be President again.
What a fecked up country. And yes, Biden shouldn't be standing for another term and some close to him said he wouldn't if Trump wasn't still in the race.

Trump may come out with some awful things but it strikes me as all being deliberate and is not evidence of dementia. Indeed, his ability to speak coherently for long periods of time is evidence to me of a pretty sharp brain, whatever the distasteful nature of what he says.
As it is, I think he is probably at heart a liberal (he was after all a Democrat at one time) but has chosen to go down the route he has because he is obsessed with power and the limelight. And he certainly knows how to trigger his base.

I think you are correct, it is all just the most immense ego trip for the Orange Baboon, he just revels in the limelight and drinks in the adulation of the crowds.
There is a certain low cunning in evidence; figuring out on the hoof what his fanbase want to hear rather than what he actually believes or knows to be true.

Putting aside the fact he's clearly aging - their economy is absolutely on fire as is the stock market.
And when you factor in that there are a number of independents with such a high share of the vote currently, that are likely to fall in behind Biden the closer we get, I still make him the favourite.

Don't think that kind of polling is worth very much really. When polled there's an in-built advantage to having the kind of public recognition that comes with being president or former president. But that kind of profile also comes with being the Democratic candidate for president, so in actual campaigning practice that gap between Biden and other hypothetical Dems almost certain to narrow.
The reason they're standing him is inertia. You just don't primary incumbent presidents, ever, so the only way they end up standing someone else is if he decline to run. |  |

Wasn't there discussion towards the end of the Trump presidency, at the point at which he appeared even more insane than during the rest of the previous four years, that he could have been ousted through some sort of 'fitness for office' mechanism?
Even if that exists, I would imagine that such a move would open a can of worms that many of the older members of Congress and the Senate (Mitch McConnell, anyone?) would rather keep closed. |
