KM's new release clause 08:17 - May 28 with 5457 views | MrPorterloo | Assuming KM is signing a new contract, and that his previous release clause was something like £6m, what (roughly) can we expect his new release clause to be? One logic says more money all round = bigger release clause. Another logic says KM is in such a powerful position that the clause would remain small by prem standards or even go down. We have all come to terms with losing him one day, I am just wondering if we will get a load of cash for that when the day eventually happens.
KM's new release clause on 08:22 - May 28 with 4922 views | Zx1988 | I'm hoping that there are two key bits to it: 1) A much-increased buy-out clause, somewhere north of £10m. 2) Some sort of activation period for the above - either time or circumstances based. Ideally it won't come into effect until at least summer 2025.

KM's new release clause on 08:39 - May 28 with 4786 views | Bellevue_Blue | Mark Ashton won't be taken for a fool and he will know the interested parties can afford much much more than 6M. Any release clause can be manipulated based on division etc so as long as we are succeeding as a Premier League club I would have thought it would be somewhere between 12-20 million (Graham Potter was £21M) with the scope to increase based on the number of years we are in the Prem/ finishing position. Alternatively, if we go down, it probably falls in line with Kompany/ Maresca somewhere between 10-12M.

I think point 2 is vital. He's been VERY close to leaving twice in four months now. He'll be linked with every vacancy. We need a year out of him, without speculation. [Post edited 28 May 2024 8:41]

I doubt Paul Lambert thinks so. He did very nicely out of his new one.

Very much doubt that is the case, deals almost always have break clauses in them.

I'd been told it was the case. Contract runs to Dec 2025 and will continue to receive severance pay unless he gets a new job in management - hence why he's farting around in the media and 'rejecting' proposals from clubs. [Post edited 28 May 2024 9:18]

That’s the important thing here. The length of the deal in some ways is almost irrelevant as I think most of us can agree he’ll be going on to manage a top 6 club within the next 3-4 years, most likely sooner than that. As long as we can get a minimum of 1 year out of him to at least stabilise our position in the prem which will give Ashton a better starting position when we come to hire the new manager, whenever it is KM leaves.
KM's new release clause on 09:26 - May 28 with 4213 views | PhilTWTD | KMc will have been negotiating from a position of strength so we'll do well to get anything too restrictive.

Think that's very unlikely. I doubt he's had any offers.
KM's new release clause on 09:29 - May 28 with 4180 views | GavTWTD | Not sure it'd ever get written into contract but I feel there should be a clause to inflate the amount further if he leaves mid-season. Always harder to get another successful manager in while games are being played.

Yes. There was talk for a while of a transfer window for managers in the same way as we have them for players. You can see the rationale at least.

Following his great achievement of getting little old Ipswich into the Premier League, let's hope he goes on to manage a top 6 club pretty swiftly, in the same way that George Burley did.

I think we'll get a maximum of another season out of KM. If we haven't been able to get a commitment for the season, we may have been better to let him go now, rather than have the same task mid season. To be fair, if I was a Brighton fan, I think I'd be happier with Potter. I think they will get more years out of him second time round.

I suspect that there will be something that allows him to talk to clubs like United if they come knocking, but you’re absolutely right that we need a period of exclusivity so that we can focus on the seasons without any distractions. Im sure that we won’t get burnt by not having him on some sort of divisional contract

KM's new release clause on 12:40 - May 28 with 3144 views | LegendofthePhoenix | It was reported (in the Sun!) that KM's revised Championship contract was £1.2M with a release clause of £6M. If MA were to raise his package to around £5M without increasing the release clause roughly in line, he would be a dummy, and if I know one thing it is that MA is no dummy. If one figure goes up by x%, the other numbers go up by x% as well.
