Jobe Bellingham on 11:40 - May 30 by Herbivore | Maybe, but then I'm not sure making an 18 year old with no Prem experience the centre of our new style of play is a great idea either. Very good player with lots of potential but I'm not convinced he's quite right for us. |
We can't afford a player of his calibre 2-3 years further with their development. Dortmund may well sign him and they will play him. Like his brother he's mature beyond his years. He'd be great for us but McKenna wouldn't start him every game. I think we'd look to grow him into season like Omari. Important from day one but not starting every game. (Wouldn't be surprised if 5-6 games on he's a regular starter though if we got him). I would be amazed if we got Jobe. I think he'll be 20 million to a champions league/Uefa cup team [Post edited 30 May 2024 11:46]

Jobe Bellingham on 11:45 - May 30 by textbackup | From what I’ve seen of him he has multiple strings to his bow. Excellent when playing deep, winning tackles, turning defence into attack in seconds, with an eye for goal too. What’s not to like. If the price was right we’d be mad to pass to chance up IMO. We are in need of athleticism in key areas (CM, and the 10 roles) think he ticks many boxes. |
Agree with that entirely. Gets caught in possession now and again, but expected with how old and experience, will get better. Similar in my opinion to how Jack Taylor plays (note: I feel JT is more suited to PL - bold I know considering he didn't play that much - definitely had a big impact though).
Jobe Bellingham on 11:52 - May 30 with 2461 views | ITFCBlues | People getting excited because his second name is Bellingham? He really didn't set the world alight at Sunderland last year & would probably cost £15-20m. It's a no from me.

Had that exact discussion with mate on promotion day, that JT has that build and style that could see him emerge as a real key man for us next season. Back to JB - if the worse is to happen and we went down, we’d have a young hungry talent within our ranks to build the next promotion team around. If the price was right it’s win win really

I've not seen enough of him but he really didn't look anywhere near the player worthy of the hype he gets in the games against us At points during the season Sunderland fans were definitely questioned his place in the side too. Reminded me a lot of our feelings towards Dozzell where we knew what he was capable of but he rarely showed it. There's a good thread on the Sunderland forum about all things Jobe. It's basically people defending him vecuase he's young and developing, but not actually saying he's a quality player Anyway, there's no way in a million years he's coming here so not sure why I'm entertaining this.
Jobe Bellingham on 12:05 - May 30 with 2327 views | rickw | He's obviously a talented kid, but he's not ready for a move up yet, just because his brother was a superstar at 18 doesn't mean he is! It reminds me a bit of when we sold Wickham to them, at the time he was an average Championship striker and not ready to move up then ended up not fulfilling his potential. Whether it would have been different if he'd have stayed here for another year to two we'll never know

Didn't Wickham almost immediately get injured? Looks like he scored 2 in his first 3 matches and then got injured and fell out of favour after the injury under a new manager. Not sure it's a fair comparison. SB

The kid will play regularly for England in the future. If his name wasn't Bellingham everyone would be raving about an 18 year old who played 45 games for a championship team while playing out of position. If we can get the deal done, then we absolutely should get him in. [Post edited 30 May 2024 12:13]

At £15m on a five-year deal, it would only cost us £3m on PSR next season. Should the worst happen and we go down, I'm sure we'd recoup that and more in 2025/26.

There’s no chance he comes here, one of the big clubs will take a punt and stockpile like they do in the hope they can make a profit in a few years.

That said I like him as a player and offers great potential under a manger like McKenna. He’s ridiculously young and already looks the part.

He's not worth £20m to us though, or anywhere close to it. For what he'd cost and what he currently offers I don't think it's viable. No doubt he's got quality but we're not yet a club that can take an eight figure punt on a player who doesn't quite fit our system and won't be ready to be a big player for a while. If we were sat here off the back of a midtable Prem finish I'd definitely be interested, feels like the wrong time for us, imo.

Probably what promoted the post. Looked decent for Sunderland and still very young. I do wonder if he had a different surname whether people would be getting such a stiffy at the prospect of paying 8 figures for him though off the back of this season. He’s been shoehorned out of position to be fair in the absence of any proper forwards but he’s not the sort of profile you would hang your hat on coming in and improving the side in the near term, so for me he’s probably not right for right now. We’ll spend a lot, but it’s a finite budget and I think we need the big outlays to be a bit more proven.
Jobe Bellingham on 13:03 - May 30 with 1807 views | FrankfurtBlue | If we are going to spend that sort of money (£15-20m), I think I'd rather see us spend it on Omari, assuming he would be happy to come back. He is already integrated into the team and the way KMc and his staff expect hm to play, and would be far less of a risk. Shame we didn't have a buy option in the loan deal.

Jobe Bellingham on 11:35 - May 30 by Herbivore | Ultimately he'll end up as a CM I suspect but he doesn't have the qualities needed at the moment to play as a CM in our system. As a number 10 he has very different attributes to the likes of Chaplin and Hutchinson who we usually play in that role so he's not a like for like switch into that role either. |
