It certainly hasn't been up to now, but with Labour moving to the right, and the probability of the Tories being led by someone like Badenoch or even Farage and moving even more to the right, it is perhaps difficult to see the Tory Party as their natural home.
I suppose it depends how many One Nation Tories survive the election, and how many are prepared to stay and fight, but I certainly tend to think that people like David Gauke and Rory Stewart would feel more a home in the Labour Party than the Tory Party. [Post edited 3 Jun 2024 21:01]

If we were more like our European neighbours then out two monolithic parties would no longer exist. We'd have the Greens, a Corbynite left wing party, a centre left party with the likes of Starmer and Streeting, a centre right party for the one nation Tories you've mentioned and a populist right wing party with the ERG Tories and the UKippers. |  |

Scary thought that we maybe veering into the possibly realms of the far right taking over as opposition. I know that there was a spell around Europe of far right politicians getting into power but I didn't think it would happen here.
He seems to have found a space to squeeze into but only because the Tories absolutely pooped the bed. It does make this election more spicy but I hope it just goes tits up for them.

Even with Farage, he needs to overturn a 24,000+ majority.
And even then there will likely be zero Reform MPs elsewhere.

The previous two consisted of three of the four largest parties and one of the smaller centrist parties, and the one before that was the two largest parties governing together.
