What about Moore? 18:25 - Jul 1 with 4475 viewsSoCalTownFan

7 goals in 18 appearances....6ft 4.... so whats not to like? He proved himself.

Why aren't we going after him?

Arguments I have heard so far

"not proven at the premier league level"- and Hutchinson is? (11 goals in 50 appearances. Not saying we shouldn't have signed him, just comparing his record to Moore's) both players were from Premier league teams, neither getting 1st team games

"he's too old" - then won't we get him for less? aka experienced?

"we want our forward line to all be midgets" I would enjoy a comparison of the height of Premier league defenders versus championship defenders. I'd wager premier leauge is taller.

For me it would mean standing still signing Moore.

Grateful for what he did but he’s unlikely to get better unlike Hutch

We’ll have better options pencilled in I’m sure

Personally don’t think he was mobile enough for us, unable to run in behind, or out wide and stretch teams. Whilst he clearly done relatively well here, I feel like he slowed our game down a bit and noticed the difference when Hirst was re-introduced at Hull.

FWIW, I’d take Moore as a third striker if we signed Ioannidis, but not sure he’d be up for that gig. I did hear there’s a chance that he goes to Leeds.

I think he was an excellent signing in January and more than justified the outlay, but what’s got us here won’t get us there and all that. I think we’ll be looking for someone who makes Hirst droppable, that should be the aim. Keep upgrading, I’m not sure Moore is that.

"we want our forward line to all be midgets"

Where did you hear this argument?!?

Anyway, he was a decent sticking-plaster when there wasn't a better option to cover Hirst's injury. But not the long term answer, especially now we're in the prem, for the reasons others have listed and the fact that we can now probably get better.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Will be difficult to keep three No.9's happy when only one will start; can see us signing one specialist 9, and another that can play as a 10 or "emergency" 9.

He proved himself to not be the ideal striker for our system. Goals, yes, but bringing other players into it, pressing and creating spaces, no. He wasn't fully fit, so that would have been part of it. But not one I'd want to roll the dice on.

I'm in the same position as you regarding bringing him in as a 3rd striker. While he has limitations when it comes to playing the system mckenna is after, his height and trial ability bring a point of difference that might make the difference when it comes to snatching late points or wins in scrappy games.

Thought he did a really good job for us and if we'd not signed him we probably wouldn't have gone up. However, I don't see him being someone to really take us forward and I'd prefer us to look for other options.

If you've got an option between a more mobile, better version of Hirst (someone like the Greek fella) or Moore, it's a no brainer imo.

I think we might because of the continuous thing. But I hope we don't.

I wouldn't mind Moore as an option but we are more ambitious than that and it's quite simple. We are trying to get a better striker who is younger and will add value to the team as well as hopefully financially. Moore will be 32 next month. We want to develop a team where we can for this and future seasons.

Hirst and Moore are not good enough as our only centre-forwards, we need to bring in a top striker for some serious money. I would then keep Hirst. Perhaps Moore would fill a squad space as a third striker but it's a no from me overall.

No resale value.
Better options available now we're in the Prem. We're shopping in different markets now.

The time and place for Moore was last season.

It's quite an easy argument, he's not mobile enough and our striker needs to be able to stretch defences to create space for the 10s.

He’s not very good.

Served a valuable purpose when Hirst was injured, but Hirst is more mobile, better in the air and has a far better touch and footballing brain.

One of the best signings of the Jan window across all the English leagues, as others said he got us over the line. However, as Hirst came back Moore’s limitations as a player became more evident - George is just better at everything. First touch particularly - sometimes Moore looked like a newborn giraffe with his legs going all over the place.

Agree the concensus that it’s a no unless he’s willing to be a squad player.

He was the right choice in Jan, I said if we sign him promotion was ours, but I'm not convinced now we're in the PL. He would certainly be a backup, but at his age is he going to want to be a backup

He's actually younger than I thought but I think it's his mobility that's the problem

In the right system he will be very dangerous and he definitely added something to us, I just think he lacks the mobility for our system. His heading and finishing attributes were PL quality but we will need more than that, hence why we have been after the Greek fella.

Moore was excellent for us. Without him, we would still be in the Championship.

Good finisher, great attitude, battered defenders. However, I don’t think he has enough for the PL. Good squad player if there’s a vacancy or our options are limited by cost? Possibly, but much as I like him, it’s a no from me.

If Al Hamadi goes out on loan, as a third striker to offer different attributes, then I’d be all over it.

20 to go and no joy, try some balls into box with a big man…tried and tested, not sexy, but we’ll need different ways to win.

He won’t come as a third, unless he really is team focused.

Ionnodis, seems the ‘one’ but can’t go into season with two strikers. Am comfortable with Ali, he’ll do well with a pre season.

Someone like Adam Idah would be a better option than Moore in the long run. Moore was very much an emergency option and he did hit the ground running but not one for the future.
