Ok… man punch’s your wife in the face whilst in the airport before you go on holiday…

Do you,

A) stand and watch in the hope the courts deal with him in 6-9months
B) or be filled with rage and do something back

I learnt in the playground; you don't hit girls, and you don't kick someone in the head once you've put them down. People that do are not "real men".

Do you think the lad on the ground might have said something about the coppers mum? Only way it could be justified shirley?

Even then, the more rational response would be something along the lines of:

"Yes, my mother may be [insert slur here]. But I'm not the one who's going to be doing a few years at His Majesty's pleasure for assaulting a police officer. Swings and roundabouts, ain't it?"

Rather than using a restrained man's head as a football.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

“Social strife ahead” the OP implied!why? The officer involved has rightly been suspended and will face the law for what he has done. Why then does a community take it upon itself to have protests over this? It will not speed the process and just cause more grief and waste police resources!

Because the 'community' in question behaves like a hive-mind.

Might well be proved wrong and not just a one-off for that officer, but looks like he just completely lost it.

That's the thing. He's a firearms officer. He should absolutely be the last person to be losing it.

But at the very least he needs to be smart enough not to do something like this in front of people filming him, and no doubt CCTV.

If someone breaks into your home, you are expected to use no more than “reasonable force” in defending yourself/family - anything more than that is deemed illegal and you’d be prosecuted for it - as has actually happened irl.

Cheers for the heads up

For those who are saying that the police are only over forceful in response to danger just think back to 2021. After a policeman was convicted of murdering Sarah Everard a group of women gathered for a ritual in a London park. These women were breaking civil but not criminal law. The very colleagues of the murderer went into the park and brutally removed them. The next day the now Princess of Wales joined the ritual as if to say "Come on, I f**king dare you!" For some unknown reason the police did not intervene that day, there were no arrests and no fines issued. I wonder why.

Around the same time The Prime Minister of The United Kingdom, various Ministers of State and numerous minions were enjoying p**s ups in 10 Downing Street and other government premises. Something they all initially denied. Because of the denials an inquiry costing £ many thousands at least was held bringing up evidence as such they could not deny and they were fined a pittance. None were convicted of perverting the course of justice. Also in 2021 here in Derbyshire two women met up by a lake and went for a walk, they remained socially distanced and broke no laws. Five policemen went to confront them armed with tasers and pepper spray. Thankfully they did not get forceful on this occasion but the women were fined which were overturned by a court. Over 100 people in Derbyshire had Covid fines overturned. One rule for them. It makes me seethe.

A few interesting pieces of info relating to the "Police are right, dont hit girls or get what you deserve crowd"...

"Fahir’s older brother was a SERVING GMP officer and said he was now “too afraid to go to work”."

"Fahir’s brother and MOTHER were also assaulted by the police. He alleged the mother was kicked in the face"

"About 200 people protested outside Rochdale police station on Wednesday, reportedly shouting “GMP shame on you”. On Thursday evening, a few hundred protesters gathered outside Burnham’s office as part of a Stand Up To Racism demonstration, chanting slogans such as “No justice, no peace, no racist police”. They then marched through the city before various speeches took place. Social media footage appeared to show demonstrators blocking tram lines and roads. Manchester’s Bee Network said on social media: “Due to a protest in the city centre, tram services are operating to an amended service pattern.” https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/jul/25/teenager-kicked-in-face-

Agree with your para1, not with the second.

Shouldn't make any difference whether he's being filmed or not. Uncalled for excess violence isn't OK because unobserved by anyone else.

Trying to think of the reason airports are so well policed and why there needs to be an armed police presence there in the first place. Must have been something that’s happened to put people on edge

The chap is (was?) a firearms officer. By the very nature of his position he's going to be asked to patrol in potentially higher-pressure/stress situations than the average bobby on the beat.

If he's so highly strung that such situations can easily get the better of him, and cause him to violently lash out, he should never have been made a firearms officer in the first place.

True.

But we don’t know people back stories do we. Everyone bangs on about mental health these days, nobody has a clue what’s going on his his life.

Doesn’t help matey that walked away perfectly after the kick and stamp, but certainly worth considering if he gets removed from the force

Not been able to watch the video. Only found a 10 second clip online.

My usual response is that videos posted online give little context of the situation in real time, but from what I’ve seen I’m not sure how that falls into the any of the categories for use of force and understandably lots of questions to be asked.

In response to some of the earlier points, some forces (potentially GMP) have bodyworn that can be live linked back to force control. Also with a few officers there and CCTV there will be officer and commercial footage of the incident, not a chance of this not being covered by all angles.

The fact that armed response were sent indicated that the suspect was a high risk offender otherwise they wouldn’t distract firearms officers from applying oil to their biceps and eating their crayons for nothing. I would be interested to know what this guy was wanted for

I imagine longer clips are/will be available and perhaps might be in the better interests of GMP to actually share it rather than the usual policies from forces to write vague responses and not let footage be widely seen along with detailed information

* I know I’ll be pulled up for anything I write re policing so I’m going to reiterate from what I’ve seen there is nothing that would justify the kick followed by the stomp… But more information and footage will be available in time which may well incriminate the officers further

Looking at the footage, I can't see how that action is acceptable.
On the other hand, it's interesting that the thugs who broke a woman's nose are presenting themselves as innocent victims.
Protests in Rochdale are misplaced because the event occurred at Manchester Airport, but the Rochdale Police do not have my sympathy after the way they turned a blind eye to the Rochdale grooming gangs.

Not a word about an army officer being stabbed 12 times in Chatham either! Do the residents of Chatham protest outside the police station?no they let the law deal with it!

I jumped to the conclusion that punching the female officer in the nose was the reason for the rough treatment, but the protest would suggest that those people believe that there was a racial element to it.
The officer should get in hot water, but it's hardly the crime of the century now is it?
If the suspect is cooperating the whole time, then that would be much more shocking. The context is very important and has been stripped away.

Presumably he won't go around punching female officers, and if he did, he would deserve a bit of retaliation.

Except there is absolutely no evidence of racism as far as I have seen. It is always non-white criminal harmed by police office = equals racist attack.

You don't have to be a criminal to experience police racial profiling if you're 'non-white'.
