Breakdancing is no less an Olympic sport than gymnastic floor dance events, imo.
Agree about golf/tennis/football not being in it though, there are plenty of events covering those sports every year. |
Don’t get your para 2 argument - there are plenty of other events covering athletics, swimming and cycling too.

Another lowlight is drug abuse and the acceptance of it.
Before Tokyo, 23 Chinese swimmers were kicked out for doping offences. 11 competed in Paris and they had their most successful games in the pool in years. We all know how and why but nobody dare hold a conversation on it.
I bet the Chinese weren’t the only ones ‘upping their gas’ either. But I always get the impression from the Olympic bods and oily people like Coe that the image of the sport is more important than drug scandals and fairness so it gets brushed under the carpet with greasy smiles.

The pinnacle of football is the World Cup, tennis - the grand slams, golf - the majors. Rugby - World Cup. Would a basketball superstar sacrifice winning whatever you win in the NBA for an Olympic medal at a games where the opposition is negligible? I doubt it.
The OG showcases events that otherwise get limited coverage. Even athletics where it’s the pinnacle of that sport. Same for cycling, swimming etc.

The pinnacle of football is the World Cup, tennis - the grand slams, golf - the majors. Rugby - World Cup. Would a basketball superstar sacrifice winning whatever you win in the NBA for an Olympic medal at a games where the opposition is negligible? I doubt it.

Whilst I agree that these sports probably don't need the exposure, we have had niche sports like baseball and softball featuring when only 3 or 4 countries take that seriously |  |

Never liked the bloke back to the days when he made an excuse every time he lost. It looked like he turned a blind eye to Russian doping allegations in around 2017, if the evidence of others is anything to go by. For him it always appeared to me that the image of the Olympics was more important than things like cheating. Oily.

no we didn't - neither Sydney nor Femke entered the 400 flat, they both entered the hurdles. I just would have loved to have seen that race. Apparently, Sydney's split time last night for the 2nd leg was 47.7. I'd just love to see her beat the 47.6 anabolic steroid enhanced mark of GDR's Marita Koch which stands at 47.6. Maybe not Tour de France, but track cycling? Can’t imagine it would attract much lottery funding without the Olympics.
Anyway, according to the internet, cycling and bike sales are on the decline so maybe its day is done in this country? But I’m no expert so I am happy to be corrected.
