The failure to bring in another striker is absolutely killing us on 21:14 - Dec 3 with 3982 views | Hugoagogo_Reborn | That was always going to be the hardest position to fill adequately, I feel. I'm not sure who we could have got in (that wanted to come here) that would have been good enough. Broja was evidently too big a risk, Ioannidis wasn't interested in the move. Middlesbrough wouldn't part with Lathe. A shrewd loan or purchase in January is looking rather necessary. However, I was never under the impression we would stay up, anyway. I'm just enjoying the experience and what will be will be. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 21:15]

Makes you think that Szmodics isn't fully fit. As for the OP, I don't think the situation is helping Al Hamadi either who could do with playing regular football.

Indeed, it's not really fair on him, but when palace bring on Nketiah and we bring on AAH it kind of sums up the depth and quality.. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

According to his agent, Boro would have parted with Latte Lath if we'd given them more time to sign a replacement.

Go on then, what level has he proven himself at? L2 I think is the answer…

Well, every club has to deal with that. But barely creating anything of note at home to Palace is a recipe for disaster and a real shame after some progression over past few games

Not every club has to deal with as many as we have as regularly as we have to key players. KM has never this season been able to field a settled side. Your second para is largely the consequence of my first here.

We signed him in the Championship. Derby wanted him on loan in the Championship. Clearly not a league two striker.

He’s not proven at any level apart from L2. A few tap ins in a team flying in the championship doesn’t make him a championship proven/quality player I’m afraid.

He'd have almost certainly got a loan to the Championship had we have signed a second striker I don't think the plan was ever for Delap to be our main man, as it happens he has done really well but he desperately needs some support I like Ali Al-Hamadi and he may come good but that may take a season or two The same maybe the case for the likes of Clarke too in fairness, if we do end up going down, you may find he ends up getting a lot of goals again at that level

Really getting fed up with comments like this on the striker situation. You cannot tell me there wasn't a player in western Europe capable of offering more than Al-Hamadi who'd have jumped at the chance to play in the Premier League. I could reel off 7-8 names without even having to do any research who'd have been available for £10m-£15m, half of what we were panic-bidding for Latte-Lath on deadline day. We knew Hirst was brittle/injury-prone, Al-Hamadi's only proven at L2 level and Delap was wholly unproven (and still green in various aspects despite his bright start to the season). Pretty criminal not to get a third senior striker in.
The failure to bring in another striker is absolutely killing us on 08:31 - Dec 4 with 2584 views | nrb1985 | Said on a different thread, I feel like this one one of many sliding doors moments. You could reasonably point to; - Not getting Philogene in - Unable to secure another striker - Injuries (starting to feel there's too many of them for it to be bad luck - Hirst injury in particular has really hurt us - can't win games at this intense level with league one players on the bench) - Some abject refereeing decisions - Plenty of individual errors at both ends of the pitch (Clarke miss v Everton, Muric at Brentford spring to mind) If we end up going down it wont be because we couldn't compete or KM not up to it. I think it will be down to those issues we've fallen the wrong side of by the finest of margins.
The failure to bring in another striker is absolutely killing us on 08:33 - Dec 4 with 2570 views | GlasgowBlue | It’s been one of Ashton’s few failings since being here. Two seasons ago we spent all summer chasing Hirst, didn’t get him and bought Ahadme on the last day of the window. Last year we didn’t get our main target and ended up bringing in Scarlett at the last minute. This summer we put all our eggs in the Borja basket and had no plan B when that fell through. It’s bizarre that we thought we could go into this season with one fit striker, one long term injury and a player we bought from League 2 in January. Even if we had got in a Kiefer Moore type loan singing as a squad option, it would have been better than where we are now. [Post edited 4 Dec 2024 11:47]

He’d have got a championship loan to maximise any selling fee we could get. I honestly doubt if he’ll do anything at that level though. Only my opinion though

I think it was fairly evident he was too good for League Two. He obviously isn't PL standard either but could definitely be effective in League One or the Championship.

Your comments remind me of John McEnroe playing at Wimbledon one year, when towards the end of an epic 5-setter, a fan called out from the crowd during the silence as JMc was defending a break point & about to serve - "Come on McEnroe!". McEnroe paused his serve, looked up at the guy & yelled back "I'm trying for gods sake!" Whole crowd erupted with laughter.
