I think Philogene will start ahead of Broadhead if he does join. With Broadie and Jack Clarke behind him on the bench In the two or three behind Delap, McKenna seems to like at least one ‘tracker back/tackler’ a Burns or Szmodics. So can’t see Hutchinson, Philogene and Broadie ever being on the pitch together. As exciting as that is. With our new deep block 5 using Johnson or Burns, maybe Godfrey. Maybe McKenna feels he can play two behind Delap with more attacking freedom, so Hutchinson and Philogene?! Basically I haven’t got a clue

Because we agreed personal terms with him, he was all set to sign but Villa activated their clause. No such clause this time!

I don't think this guy is a fan posts absolute negative sh1t all the time on X. Must be an alias for Chris Sutton. I mean what use is a forward if they aren't getting good service.

Yeah it was a strange one because unless I’m mistaken they sold him to Hull for 5M in summer of 2023 then brought him back for 13M (inc.30% discount) a year later. Now six months later they are selling him to us for approx 20M plus add ons. Not a bad bit of business!

Actually, is it good business? If they sold for £5m but bought him back for £13m, that's a £8m loss. If they're now selling him again for £20m, that's a £7m gain, so they've actually lost a million. They'll be hoping the add ons make up for it. Edit: Being thick - ignore the above! [Post edited 9 Jan 10:14]

My first thought is, does McKenna want him? The second is does KM have a more informed opinion than me? I was always much more excited about the Greaves part of the double deal, and not that bothered when Philogene chose Villa. It wouldn't have been a surprise if he chose us over Villa, but it also was a reasonable choice, it's not like he missed his chance with us.

They sold him for 5 million, so that is a 5 million profit. Then they bought him again for 13 m (5 million would have been coming back to them if they let him go to Ipswich the first time). They didn't lose 8 million, it was more like they mined raw materials, sold them off to be processed in a factory and bought the finished product to sell for a profit. It's a basic concept of investing that you only make a profit or loss when you are holding the asset. The final result is that just on transfer fees they made 12 million compared to 10 million if they had just let Hull sell him to Ipswich in the summer. That is a difference of 2 million, but it could be almost nothing when wages are factored in. In essence it was a very safe bet. If he kicked on and proved to be Champions League standard, they would win big, as it happened he is allowed to leave 6 months later and has retained his value, even increased his value due to the long contract he signed.

It doesnt actually get counted as one long transaction. They will be 3 completely separate sales on the books. 5m Profit 13m Expense 20m profit. 25 - 13 = 12m profit. (Plus any addons)
