….removed from the court during his sentencing hearing because he claimed to “feel ill”.

Get the scumbag murderer back in there to listen to the effects his disgusting crimes have had on people.

Sickening.

No, in all seriousness, I owe you an apology there - that was my inherent bias spilling over into a thread that didn't warrant it.

I just hope against all hope that this...individual...is taken off the streets and put somewhere where he'll never be a danger to anyone again.

Whether he's ill, evil, sane or a scumbag, I really don't care.

Apologies again, pal.

No matter what sentence he receives, it wont feel like justice to the families. Just a shame the authorities didn't lock him up before he was able to do it. He was well known to police, Prevent, etc apparently. The law should allow for anyone who shows potential to go out and seriously harm people to be locked up for the public's safety.
[Post edited 23 Jan 13:14]

Is a really hard one. Agree that people who are a genuine danger to others shouldn't be walking the streets, but how on earth can you judge that?

Someone who had committed no crime but is mentally ill can't just be locked up "just in case".

So a judgement has to be made and sometimes *with hindsight those making the assessments will get it wrong. Or they get it right but someone's illness gets worse or maybe they refuse medication.

Point being, am sure there will be lessons, but am also sure it is an incredibly difficult area to work in and blaming those who missed things is way too tempting/simple. Proper reflection will be needed from all involved.

I had to stop reading the bbc live updates because it made me feel sick. Deserves to suffer in every single way, but we all know he won’t.

Vile cretin.

Of course he won’t. He has his human rights and knows it. It’ll be interesting to see whether he gets a life sentence of say 15 years or gets put in Broadmoor or wherever these creatures go these days for the rest of his life - at yours and my expense.

When it comes to it, the only true life sentence is for the victims and the families of the victims. How a parent copes with that, I’ll never know.

I’ve read through the updates now and it’s truly beyond awful.

….whoever that relates to, could risk him ever seeing the light of day again to be honest.

The repercussions would be extraordinary.

Quite rightly in this case.

Also, the whole country is watching the outcome of this. If the punishment isn't the complete maximum it can be, there is going to be national uproar and more civil unrest I imagine.

Just reading it and it's so horrific. One of the guys passing by who went back in with a policeman and then carried a fatally injured little girl out of the building 'screaming as he did so'. What an incredibly man but I can't imagine he'll ever recover from that mentally.

It's all so so awful beyond words.

I doubt there would be any repercussions. New identity, weak laws, reformed character, no danger to society blah blah, anonymity, £millions spent, passage of time. Only if that thing reoffended would there be any come back.

I saw a photo of him yesterday. He certainly looks deranged. Awful crime. I hope he gets a whole life sentence.

The thought of those little girls seeing him running at them, his face, his hair, it’s makes my heart ache that it was the last thing they saw in their beautiful little lives.

I hope he gets horrifically treated in prison by inmates and officers.

I doubt he will. Or the others at the scene.

A former work colleague of mine worked on child abuse for the Home Office for about 18 months. That was all she could take. She’d seen the worst and needed a lot of help after leaving that work behind. She didn’t describe what she’d witnessed obviously but she just said ‘use your imagination and it was far worse than that’.

There are some truly wicked creatures out there. And thinking of the people you described in your post, some truly wonderful ones too. They should be focussed on for what they did. I hope they can get some sort of peace at some point.

I hope that he spends the rest of his life in prison and that every day is a torment for him in terms of loss of liberty. I do hope that he realises the truly horrific nature of his crimes and that he’s tortured for it straight after.

However, as a matter of principle I think that prisoners, regardless of crime, are safe from harm in prison. Any officer taking out retribution should be sacked and subject to imprisonment as well.

I'm prepared for the pile-on, but there are only victims here, including the perpetrator.

Obviously an incredibly unwell man through no fault of his own, who slipped through the cracks despite (it would appear) multiple red flags that could well have pointed towards this sort of thing happening. Hopefully the enquiry will get to the bottom of how this was all allowed to happen, despite AR's previous actions.

Mental health provision in this country is appalling. Case in point is the chap just down the road from me who, this time last year, called the police advising them he was having some sort of episode, and was told (I'm paraphrasing here) to call someone who cares. Instead he killed himself and his family.

AR should be locked away for a very long time, but in a facility where he can receive the treatment and care that he clearly so desperately needs, and well away from the pointless bloodlust of certain sections of society.

The other inmates will get him sometime. It only takes a few seconds. They always get them especially when the prison officer is (cough) distracted.

I can kind of understand where you're coming from and the point you're trying to make. However whilst there's a balance - to me you've got that horribly wrong here both in terms of a) how far you've gone in defence of the guilty murderer and b) the timing of that argument.

Do I believe in vigilante justice, no - so I agree on that point. But that's all I agree with here.

But I find your suggestion that there are only victims here - to be quite offensive. It reads like you're effectively suggesting some kind of parity between him and the beautiful, innocent children he murdered. There are not *only* victims here, there are three innocent victims, and a guilty party who (potentially influenced by other factors) committed a disgusting, senseless crime which has robbed three children and their families of their future.

Is he potentially a victim of the poor standard of MH provision in this country...yes I'd be inclined to agree. Clearly some serious issues here - and the state has to take responsibility for it's failings.

But to try and pass all responsibility over to the state - and none to a murderer - is a bridge or ten too far for me.

In terms of timing, today is not about him. It's about justice for those families.

Must be incredibly hard for judge, court officials, security, barristers and police to follow due process in such circumstances rather than act instinctively, but I trust they will.

I've often thought in cases of this kind, how can you deal with utter scum like this in a civil fashion.

This whole shouting out, I don't feel well stuff, giving him the attention his sick evil mind craves.

Utterly despicable.

Where is there anything saying he was mentally ill?

The crime is so vile and disgusting that you just assume he’s mentally ill when in reality it sounds like he was just utterly evil? How can anyone ask how young the youngest victim was minutes after getting to custody and when told ‘six’, stand there and laugh. Evil is the only word here.

As far as I'm aware the perpetrator here was not suffering from paranoid schizophrenia or similar - this is not the same as the Calocane case in Nottingham. There's not even any remorse.

It's not about bloodlust, it's about justice.
