So bored of away point moaning 20:45 - Jan 27 with 12908 viewsITFC_Blood

End of the day if you backed the boys away in L1 and champ you would have no issues getting a ticket in the Prem

If you can’t it means you didn’t do enough away days in the lower leagues

All this boo and crying is pathetic , if it wasn’t Liverpool or city away you wouldn’t care.

The fans that get the tickets for away now are the ones who did the hard miles in the lower leagues.

Blackburn away wasn’t sold out…..

The concept is absolutely fine; it's the way in which the system is managed that is the issue.

It is as plain as day that the system is abused, so that those who already have the requisite number of points can make sure that they stay at the top table, regardless of whether they go to a particular game or not. The club doesn't seem to care as long as it's getting however many lots of £40 each season.

Then there's the arbitrary decision not to allocate points for the Coventry match, despite it being a large away end that should allow those with low points to add to their total and boost their future chances.

The club is entirely right to reward previous loyalty, but going about it by creating (and, through omission, sustaining) a closed shop is completely wrong, in my opinion.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

You've missed the bit about paying for a membership. A scheme that is simply a place in a virtual queue with no guarantees. I know a number of fans who live away from Suffolk, we've travelled all over the country through dark days and good ones for many years but aren't prepared to pay £40 for nothing in return.

Enjoy your points gathering and gloating about how many you've got, I'm here for the football.

Edit. I was at Blackburn

I suspect those who are at "the top table" have no need of acquiring extra points. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence of people buying tickets just to get the points, but I wonder how much of this actually goes on? Those of us who regularly travelled to Accrington, Morecambe, Fleetwood and even Oldham on a cold rainy Tuesday night (I missed Barrow!) are not the types who flaunt the rules. My opinion.
I'm sure there were a few cases, but I wonder how many?
But if you think there ARE a lot of people who do this, then the correct decision surely, is not to award points for such matches. You can't have it both ways!

As someone who considers himself to be loyal but due to other commitments I haven’t been to that many away matches. Before kids and suchlike I went to quite a lot of away matches but it’s just unfortunate that we were quite dull then with no chance of promotion. It was a a couple or so seasons before all the super fans attended the away matches under KM.

I have no issues with rewarding those that attend regularly.

I take issue with your statement that if ‘it wasn’t Liverpool or city away you wouldn’t care’. I’ve never cared about the opposition, it’s always been about Ipswich. And I think the vast majority feel the same.

Exactly. Every away end is sold out. I can't imagine there are many fans that went to those games you mentioned, and now think, "I don't want to go Liverpool away, but I'll buy a ticket and sell it on".

Spot on. Pre-season away friendly against Grantham Town? I'm free; I'll go.
I really couldn't care who we're playing.

You’re not technically wrong, you’re just being a bit insensitive about it. There are plenty of us who’ve put in the hard miles over decades who, for one reason or another can’t go to many games, who can’t get tickets at all. But that’s fine and most people on here in that category seem resigned to it and will be back when we’re crap again.

Besides, from what I’ve seen the gripe is with people buying tickets and not going just to get the points. That’s selfish however you look at it, so deserves a moan.

That’s no true really. I would have gone to more L1 away games but the tiny grounds meant the allocations were mostly cr@p. I even went as far as signing up to a couple of teams and sitting in the home end.

I know of several fans who buy every away match ticket they can, whether they can go or not and then pass on the ticket to their mates. One particular set of lads I know regularly give a ticket to a West Ham fan, so, whether you like it or not, the system currently in use is flawed and means a West Ham fan is going to more away games in the Town end than real Town fans. And for the record I haven’t moaned about the points system previously even though I am marooned on 14, having lost the 12 points I accumulated visiting the likes of Exeter in league one.

I think in your circumstances the current system probably actually favours that type of fan in that with a bit of networking or ingenuity you can probably get a ticket for the games you want to go to (because they’re never getting to general sale which would have been your route in previously).

Sharing/swapping of tickets and customer numbers is something that has gone on forever and I think any draconian measures to stop that are probably overkill. I don’t think outside of perhaps Reading and Wimbledon away in the league cup anybody has bought a ticket and nobody has attended in order to just get a point (as it seems a pretty expensive/pointless endeavour).

So everyone who struggles to get tickets, which is one hell of a lot of us, didn't "back the boys"?

Is there any point to this post other than to insult many genuine and longstanding Town fans and cause division?

Same here and still get bombarded with emails from the clubs. I've been to hundreds of games over a 48 year period if supporting Ipswich but am living in Ireland at the moment and can't get the points. I was at FG, Fleetwood, Exeter and Plymouth to name a few. Rochdale twice, Barnsley rearranged with lost flights etc. The list goes on. BUT, this is important, I have no problem not getting tickets this year. We need to use the success to build a new generation of fans and expand base in all areas. I'll still go when I get tickets whichever league we are in and however bad the football is. So will 14k others. We need to capture another 14k who will be doing the same when we've gone. We have an old profile as a fan base and mpst of us are here based on memory of previous glories. The more glory hunters the better. Some will never leave.
And, to be honest, the last two previoys seasons were much more fun than watching Premiership football. I never saw a trip to Fleetwood as some hardship that needed rewarding. It was a good day out.

Because it’s an elitist, insensitive post, without any empathy of the reasons many may not be able to commit to away game regularly.

I'd bloody love a ticket but I live in Devon. Been to FGR, Cheltenham, MK, Bristol, Plymouth, Exeter etc but only a handful each year because I also work Saturdays. Thanks to the current system I can't get a ticket, as much as I'd love one, and certainly can't justify a membership on the offchance of one miracle happening. It's fine, really and I get it; it's part of the marvellous, shiny Premier League (sic). But your post is so fcking stupid I really don't know why I bothered replying. Don't feed the trolls... should remember that.

Hard Miles? An hour's drive to the nearest railway station (Tiverton). Train to Bristol. Change For Gloucester. Cancelled halfway. Diverted to Swindon, where there are Town fans on opposing platforms, looking bemused. Train from Swindon to Gloucester. Bus to Nailsea. Walk up a hill. Do it all again in reverse. COYB.

Your post seemingly has no purpose other than to goad the many fans who put in the hard miles to Barnsley, Swindon, Crewe and yes, Blackburn in years gone by, but for a whole host of reasons can no longer make the committment to go. It's those fans who are sometimes a little disappointed they are no longer able to attend away fixtures. Not because they don't want to, but because the opportunity to attend away games on a random basis has now gone. The days of me doing 16, 17, 18+ away games a season like I did through much of the mid to late 90s into the early 2000s are behind me. That doesn't mean I'm less of a supporter and it doesn't make me a moaner when I express a genuine disappointment I can't ever get a ticket.
I hope this explains my downvote to your satisfaction.

It is a pity that some people have to be so judgemental. Everyones situation is different. I went to loads of away games in League 1 and the relegation season in the Championship. Then I was ill after the covid break and unable to go and although I have a membership,. I have no chance of away tickets now. It feels like a kick in the teeth to a lifelong supporter and makes me so annoyed when people say, I should have gone to aways in League 1 when I did do so! Some of us that moan about the system have good reason to. One thing is for certain, I wont be paying about £40 again next season for a membership as there seems no way back on the ladder!

Mystified why this has been down voted. Look at attendances four years ago. We have a lot of fairweather fans, why should they get first dibs on away tickets when others have put in the hard yards during the bad times.

Can't have seen us play at Rochdale twice. We've only ever played them away twice, and one of those times was with no fans.
