My weirdest take from yesterday 16:41 - Feb 2 with 10056 viewsBaltachaFanClub

As I walked out of the ground, there was a sort of disagreement going on in front of me.
There appeared to be a difference of opinion about who was at fault etc.

I get it we are all frustrated, and some times it boils over.

However, the weird bit is what the final comment shouted was….

“You can all F off back to Bury st Edmunds or wherever, now we are….” I couldn’t work out the last few words, but I feel this was an Ipswich resident abusing the non Ipswich residents.

Is there a general feeling from inside the town that those of us from further afield are not as much of a part of the club?

I have lived in suffolk my entire life. My family have been Town fans before me, and I was born in Ipswich Hospital, but growing up in Halesworth, and now living in Beccles, it doesn’t make me any less of a town fan than someone based in IP1.

Welcome thoughts on this.

Wouldn’t read too much into the words of 1 person when emotions are heightened.

Ipswich Town has always had wide appeal outside of the town, particularly across Suffolk. We’re not getting 30k attendances because 20% of the population of Ipswich is going along. I’d be amazed if as many of 50% of ST holders actually live in the town.

If that's true it's ridiculous.

ITFC is for all Suffolk residents and many others who originated from, but no longer live in the area.

I do a bit, to be honest, but not always consciously. It does grate on me when those from Bury, Cambridge etc sing we support our local team when we play Man United et al

I think it also goes the other way, there was a bloke from Cambridge the other week on Twitter (Town fan) slagging off Ipswich as a town

Not lived in Ipswich for 55 years but certianly consider myself a fan travelling from Norfolk or Amsterdam to most games home and away. Forget what you heard and keep the faith

Can’t knock him for that comment , I’m born & bred in Town and still live here …….the guy is correct especially over the last 15 years ……dump.

My take is that some Ipswich residents get fed up with the flak the town gets from people who live literally just outside. You hear comments from people living in BSE , Woodbridge even Kesgrave that they never bother going to Ipswich because it is a dump. However they obviously do 'risk' it for the football.

I would imagine it's a reaction to that. "Ipswich is a dump but we're all Ipswich when the footie is going well".

There’s allegedly thousands who can’t get tickets who want those going who are unhappy to give up their season tickets for them!

Er no, that is not the case at all.

The town has always had very strong supporters branches in both Bury (used to take a double decker to all away games), Halesworth (had their own coach to aways), Saxmundham, Clacton-On-Sea, Sudbury. In fact in the good old days when the North stand was indeed the North stand, people used to be very vocal about what specific part of Suffolk they came from.

In the late 60's I worked in Norwich and was actually born in the Norfolk and Norwich hospital, but I used to travel from Norwich to Ipswich if Town were playing a night game at home. To be fair to those that were born in or around the area I had some good workmates and of course there would be a bit of banter regarding our different loyalties. Having said that a majority of my life i have lived and was brought up in Suffolk and went with my Dad to PR from the late 50's until I stopped going on a regular basis in the mid 80's. I still follow Town passionately and am proud we have a Premier League side even if that ends at the end of the season. I don't believe even if we are demoted that is the end of this passage of Towns achievements as Gamechanger will require a return to the Premier League and it's riches as they will need to a some point in the future require a return on their outlay.

I was born in Chelmsford, never lived in Suffolk, but consider Ipswich my local team.

As a Bury lad now living in Essex I have been a ST since about 1970. I am proud to have survived all the Paul's and Roy Keane. Perhaps our American owners can rename us Suffolk Phoenix and make us a truly global franchise. Then it'll not matter where you live!

When I was an 8 year old, the nearest proper football teams were Ipswich to the north and West Ham to the south. I chose Ipswich. Almost 45 years ago. Hope that's ok with you.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Are you suggesting someone in Bury should support Bury Town? Surely Ipswich is their local professional team

I know of a supporter in Malaysia who has never been to PR his whole life yet has been supporting Town since the Robson days, buys the latest kit almost every season and religiously follow every game online even in the wee hours of the morning.

Is he not a real supporter then?

The true value of the club is not only its hometown supporters but having a global presence and reputation. Remember, our owners are American, should we ask them to f off too?

Sometimes some of our delusional and entitled support really puts the rest to shame.

There you go, you’ve defined it as ‘proper’. You’ve ignored Chelmsford, Colchester and gone to the nearest one that was successful at the time, not your local team

Yeah, their local team. I’m sure Man U fans from Wigan Preston etc also call Man U their local ‘proper team’

I understand Cambridge, but not Bury St Edmunds. Bury Town Fc are so low they are in 'second team' territory

Ultimately not my call who anyone supports, just answered OPs question - I do find it weird that there seems to be this cut off as to what constitutes a proper team and what doesn’t

You really are just deliberately antagonistic, aren’t you. Ever since you crawled onto this forum.

It seems to be this simple now... by sjg 15 Feb 2023 11:17
If we believe in McKenna enough to tolerate this season's failure in the belief that in the long term he is the best man for the job, we keep hold of him.

If we want to get up this season (considering any effects that not getting promoted may have on our squad, losing key players etc.), then he has to go and quickly.
