That’s more important than a popularity pissing contest. Do they have the vision and ideas to make a positive difference to people in this country. The Tories didn’t and it doesn’t look like this version of Labour does either.

I was a member of Croydon North West Labour party in the 1980s. It roughly coincides with the current Croydon North but in those days was Tory. The candidate in 1987 was Malcolm Wicks who eventually won the seat in 1992, and later became a minister. I remember one day, when canvassing for him, speaking to a resident who thought our leaflet (with the name Wicks prominent) and campaign was about the nearby Wickes DIY store. With respect and in all honesty that doesn't read at all "with genuine affection" but quite passive aggressive. Right, here we go again. Absolutely no need to bring all this up again, particularly after you realised it was unnecessary and deleted it when you first posted it. I also pointed out you weren't involved in this thread, or even mentioned, so why you felt the need to come in with this unprovoked, largely made-up nonsense again, after sleeping on it, is beyond me. I've explained the "black up" thing as that stuck in my mind from the erroneous way you reported it originally - and now you've repeated your lie, so I can only assume it's vindictive rather than a mistake. This is a very serious allegation as it's basically calling me a casual racist . To repeat I did not offer to black up ...my boss, who is black, suggested I black up to take his place in a meeting he didn't want to attend. That's why it was funny (also he has dreadlocks, we look nothing alike). It would not be funny if I said it. It would be racist. Who are these people who remember it your way? I don't see anyone else in the thread mentioning it (at time of writing) so either you've had chats by private DM (very weird) or you're making them up. “Where can I buy a suit”? - the actual story was where can I buy a cheap suit? Bespoke suits are obviously quite expensive so I was looking for somewhere they'd be half decent but much more affordable. A reasonable request I thought and not too dissimilar to many asks of the hive mind on here over the years. Quite a few people gave some decent suggestions as I recall... I think one suggested a supermarket who's suits were surprisingly good for the price. Yes, I was hoodwinked into believing polling station opening could be extended. I admitted at the time I fell for that one. There are lots of things that get extended due to demand, such as comedians or musicians adding extra dates, so not too mad a suggestion I thought. Yes I used to be a fan of Russell Brand, literally years ago. I was also a fan of Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris back in the day. You were also a Tory Party Member but we're apparently not allowed to call you a Tory anymore, yet I still have to carry the burden of I used to like a comedian. "Potatoes are part of your 5 a day" - is another one you've got completely the wrong way round. I argued they're NOT part of your five a day, because they're not. “Is the sun sentient”? - was a jokey post at the time, quite clearly. This was before I'd heard about panpsychism, which is a theory that everything - every atom - could have, in a very basic sense, a form of consciousness. So not so mad a thought after all. But it was a deliberately jokey post to spark debate initially. The “w*g Box” story you've tweaked here from your original post of last night and is another one you've got subtly wrong to make it look worse. You said I said it with no clue about what I'd said. The actual story is that it was known as that when I was a child and I had no idea what it meant or that it was offensive. About 40 years later - while on placement, so not hired - I'm describing the idea for a TV script set in the 80s to my black creative director, when I called it what I had when I was a child. And suddenly and immediately realised what it meant. He laughed it off, ribbed me about it for ages... and subsequently hired me. I was at that company for a further 6 years. What bemuses me about this story being used as a stick to beat me with is that I volunteered all this information on here myself as an example of an embarrassing tale. So how on earth you think this is a "gotcha" moment I don't know. I gave you all the info. Saying I "could have an argument in a phone box... until everyone else has been battered into submission" would be a bit more palatable if it weren't coming from you. The absolute hypocrisy of it. Anyone who's been on here for any length of time will have seen you do exactly that, especially on political threads, for years. Unbelievable lack of self awareness. Then you have the nerve to say all these lies, misquotes and just muddled wrongness - some of which making serious racism allegations - by adding a cheeky "All said with genuine affection". You were wrong to say this last night. I can't believe you woke up this morning - obviously having copied and pasted it somewhere before deleting - and then posted it all again. Utterly unprovoked TWICE! Libs and Bloots have been proved right of course, I couldn't let it go and have had to waste my time correcting all your mistakes, when really I should have walked away. Maybe I am a bit too sensitive. I certainly am at the moment as my dad is dying, so I have to bare in mind that's probably skewing my responses, but I couldn't just leave all these falsehoods unchecked. You are a nasty piece of work, and a particularly odd one given you've been holding onto a lot of this stuff for literally decades. I'm not one who calls for people to be banned, and I haven't complained to Phil about anything for years, despite what some might think, but the people who have been banned recently have done far less, to my mind. I'll be posting less now, if at all, because I need to be around supportive people right now, which this place certainly isn't. You might want to reflect on what's wrong with yourself that you feel the need to be such a c-nut to someone you don't really know.

Sadly, those complaining about “pile-ons” have sometimes been “participants” in such things (in so far as they exist rather than just being a number of individuals with the same viewpoint) themselves. This place can be lovely, but there’s often hypocrisy - sometimes unwitting, people aren’t aware or don’t remember (general point not aimed at you or specific individuals).
