Things that have disappeared from football 22:07 - Feb 13 with 11007 viewsPlums

What happened to the centre line flags? I haven't just noticed they've gone but I've been pondering the big issues in life today and for some reason they crossed my mind.

When did they go?
What else has gone from the game?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Separate turnstiles for kids and OAPs to get in at reduced prices, being able to get in for nothing at half time. Being able to swap stand at half time so that you were always behind.the goal Town were attacking (although I think that was only Combination matches.)

Obstruction. (n/t) on 07:47 - Feb 14 by SimonBatfordITFC

Unlikely as it no longer exists as an offence. If an indirect free kick was awarded then it was more likely for dangerous play (non-contact).

Well, only the name, under the laws of the game the term obstruct, block or slow a player is still referenced in Law 12 under "IMPEDING THE PROGRESS OF AN OPPONENT WITHOUT CONTACT" which would result in an indirect free kick.

Away crowds being kept in for 20 mins after the game. Every game.

Coming out of the stadium trying to overhear the person with the radio to hear the other full-time results.

And also trying not to hear them to be able to watch MoTD without knowing the outcome.

Finding your usual place on the terrace because you got in early enough. Phew! Jostling away from tall people to see along with anyone whose hair might have critters living in it or who was a stranger to soap and water.

Crush barriers on terraces. Did you stand in front or behind? Or to the side in the gap?

Oldies like me singing ...

"And its all gone quiet over there,
It's all gone quiet over there,
And it's all gone quiet,
All gone quiet
All gone quiet over there"

Millwall & Chelsea fans at PR singing..

"Your gonna get your f***ing heads kicked in!" (Repeat multiple times)

A plug for my mate Ade's book - details how the game was changed with the introduction of the Premier league. Great nostalgia and also clearly dissects the changes driven by the money men at the expense of our great game.

Well worth a read for anyone interested in the topic.

A brilliant book that I've now owned twice, lent to people and not got back. I can absolutely recommend it!
