I posted something along a similar vein but not so damning a weeks back and people didn't like it.

Can someone tell me a worse season please because there is now way of dressing it up, it's been horrible.

He writes analysis in the headline but then doesn't do any.

It's very easy to say 'they spent lots of money, so why aren't they good?' but even the simplest of analysis shows that up to be pretty daft.

Have a look at spending over the past 4/5 years. We're so comfortably bottom of that league, we actually shouldn't be ANYWHERE other than bottom of the table.

https://www.givemesport.com/every-premier-league-club-net-spend-ranked/

Spending £130m on what was effectively a League One side, isn't the same as adding £70m to a relegated Premier League side, for instance.

That's where the analysis should've come in.

can assure you 94 95 was much worse.

1963-64 anyone?

Nevertheless, overall our recruitment has been bad. But you can only buy those players who are available and want to join.

Defending against Son and de Bruyne should be bread and butter? Glad someone has finally chipped in with a dose of realism.

Defenders have had it easy defending against them all season.......apart from ours. Everyone knows that both of them have lost pace and are not performing well

Though don't let that stop you from ridiculing posters as usual instead of genuine debate or discourse with your fellow fans.

they would still walk into almost every prem team

I’m down about Town and the season we’ve had so far, but even I could pick out 4/5 seasons in the last 15 years worse than this one.

My annoyance is we waited so long to get here, and it’s been a bit of a let down, didn’t really have that much of an expectation for the season, so not sure why I feel it’s been a let down. But it is what it is.

We’ll keep going, watching and supporting. So whatever really

I didn't expect anything more than relegation this season and gave seen very bad seasons in the 40+ years that I've been going to Portman Road but I can't remember a season where by the time we got to March I've only seen 1 win.

Exactly that !!! Comes back to expectations again.

I really don't know what many people were expecting this season. I expected that we wouldn't win very often, we might get mauled a few times, and would be overperforming if we didn't finish 20th.

I hoped for more, and right now it looks like we'll do better than 20th.

We're likely to do well if we're in the Championship next season - it won't be a walkover, but I expect us to be competitive for the title, and return to the EPL the following season. Only will I be disappointed if we're not competitive in the Championship 25/26. If by some massive feat we avoid relegation this season, I expect us to be more competitive in the EPL next season, but still lower third and at risk of being pulled into a relegation battle.

Whether we stay up, or get relegated and bounce back, it will take 3-4 seasons in the EPL to start to feel secure - and hopefully push on. We now have an ambitious club with the backing to succeed.

Do you not understand that these forums have massive sway these days? You’ve killed it. We may go on to bigger better things, who knows? Your bitching and whining on here is picked up and has a massive ripple effect. Fking knobs the lot of you. For weeks you’ve been stamping your feet like little girls and it gets picked up when all you needed to do was ride it out for a bit. Pathetic. Cook always comes good, he always has done, talk to any Pompey, Wigan or Chesterfield fan.

I’m in Pompey tonight and they’re all shaking their heads. Dkheads the lot of you. Happy to get banned on the back of this. You’re ridiculous. The ramifications are massive which may be placated with money but fk me; learn to kick a ball and know what you’re talking about before you lash out in anger.

A massive shame and a massive shame on you. Cook is working hard. What are you doing other than idly pointing fingers and drawing on nonsense stats.

Nothing but contempt for you lot and your baseless insights into football when you’ve never even kicked a ball.

'Appalling' season on 10:18 - Feb 25 by Churchman

My mind always turns to a home game v Nottingham Forest. Freezing cold, 2-0 down at half time sitting in a shabby run down old stadium and looking forward to another 45 mins of Skuse, Hyam and Douglas stumbling about. The highlight was the sh£thouse in the corner of West Stand where overpowering stench aside, you could at least get a little warmth from the steam rising from the floor and the tin traps.

Sadly, that was by no means the worst either. Polish Pete looking like he’d won the local boozer raffle to turn out for the club before his next shift on the building site. The laughter watching Nouble fall over like a new born calf, nobody in sight; Mick trying to convince us on Radio Suffolk that ‘Cokey is a proper bloaaak’. Crowd speculating while being schooled by the likes of Rotherham how much material was used to make Ellington’s enormous shorts or how Bullard had turned himself into Orca once he’d conned a new contract out of Evans.

The list of awfulness is long. Years of cack, before we get to Keane and poor old John Duncan. Stockport at home, Sheffield Weds at home after a Jewell went where the team quite literally gave up. Same Lyall and co left and Carlton Palmer became the new Maradona because our players couldn’t be @rsed. You want ‘appalling’? That was appalling.

At least the players and all at the club are trying their best, even if they coming up short and while they do that, I can live with it.

so you're saying it's the 3rd best home season in the premiership in the last 30 years?

fair enough, but i'm still happier only drawing with man utd/villa/chelsea et al with a young promising team, than losing to lincoln, swindon, rotherham, preston et al with a bunch of journeymen!

If you believe this, then your expectations for the season were way off reality. Relative to the other squads in the division, including those that came up with us, any finish above 20th is an over-achievement.

I think a lot of people who had totally unrealistic expectations of this season are now turning their sights on the club because their idea we would somehow scrape top 10 because, you know, McKenna, was not based in any sort of reality.

It's been a tough season. Shock horror. The Premier League is all but a closed shop even to teams who yo-yo between the top two divisions, let alone a club trying to rebuild from the ground up as they come from League One straight through.

As for the "analysis" in that article, it was lazy at best. We've been robbed of some of our more reliable performers like Tuanzebe through injury, robbed of points in games like Leicester at home, which make a massive difference in a relegation battle of fine margins, and while we have to say Muric looks like a dud, all clubs make bad signings sometimes. Just look at Man Utd.

We did the right thing in the transfer market, we mixed Prem experience (Phillips etc) with young potential. It hasn't worked, but it means we go down, if we do go down, in a better shape than certainly Leicester and maybe also Saints.

Key is keeping McKenna in the summer if we can.

I honestly can’t think when it was (I do know Chambers and the crew were here) but I witnessed only 3 wins in a calendar year at home (I did miss a couple with working tho)

Not been great this season, we’ve looked so weak and that has annoyed me, yes we might not be the same quality but atleast show physical strength.

I'd copied that bit ready to comment on it, but you got there before me. Honestly, we don't 'alf have some clueless whatnots on here don't we? Two of the best attackers in world football "should be bread and butter to defend against". And not just for experienced, established Prem defenders, but our lot!

Where/what/how do people thinking up this nonsense?! I'm fascinated by how some of the minds work on TWTD.

I always felt uncomfortable when this forum mocked other clubs attempts in the Premier League, even those down the road.

That was exemplified when I spent most of 23/24 in Sheffield watching United get relegated with 16 points.

It's probably healthy for us as fans to have a true understanding, finally, of just how difficult a task it is.

Oh, and the one about how you know everything about professional football because you played 20 minutes in the Ryman League once 😂

😂😂😂😂😂

Again, I WISH I had the influence they think I do. I'd have had Keane booted out by the end of August and we wouldn't have gone within 10 miles of The Fraud.

Agree with all of that but imo, we've made too many repetitive mistakes this season, which is uncharacteristic of what we've come to know over the last few years. No doubt the quality in this league punishes even the smallest of errors but some have been alarming and disappointing the freedom of Portman Road for Son being one.

If we go down and come back, i wonder what we'll change to mitigate the issues learnt from this season and to redress the balance.

If relegated, i don't think we'll have any issue keeping KM. He's on a big contract and will be hurt from the drop. In his words, "he didn't feel it was the right time to leave us" when in the PL so i really doubt he'll feel differently with a relegation. It's hardly as if he's taken us as far as he we can go given there's so much more to come.

Absolutely, Howard Wilkinson described playing the Ipswich team of 94-95 like trying to push lumpy custard up a hill. And this was in an era of 4-4-2 stodge football. That's how bad we were.

Every game you turned up not thinking about a win or possibly a draw, but how many goals would the opposition score, would we even score a goal or have a corner. By the end of the season fans were singing let's pretend we've scored and celebrating just for the sheer hell of having something to cheer about

2001-02 wasn't exactly mich fun either, and 93-94 was pretty turgid too.

This team would easily beat pretty much every team since 2000 including that team.
