Apparently the Russian state-owned media company, TASS, were there. Whilst Associated Press and Reuters are now banned.

TASS nowadays only pump out pro-Putin propaganda.

And this happened last week, if anyone was unsure what side Trump was on

Trump has apparently announced he is immediately withdrawing all help from Ukraine after today’s meeting

“ The Trump administration is considering ending all ongoing shipments of military aid to Ukraine after a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump in the Oval Office, the Washington Post reports.”

Trump also said at the end “This will make great television”

He really is a piece of sh!t

Trump is sick. He's literally playing with thousands of people's lives. Absolute scum.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

At this point it's also clear that the comparison of Trump to Chamberlain are completely without merit. He's not the analogy of Neville, appeasing to get the war stopped. He's Stalin, seeking to carve up countries between himself and Hitler/Putin.

Actually now you say that about freedom of speech - it was Vance that brought that up yesterday, and Vance that launched the first salvo on Zelensky today. My guess is that that is a deliberate thing.

Starter refuted the accusation and then held back. Zelensky, unsurprisingly as the leader of a country that’s had millions killed and 20% of his territory occupied, couldn’t do the same.

No, he shouldn’t have taken the bait. But it was an utter disgrace what eye liner boy and the orange idiot tried to do. Aside from having his country smashed by an aggressor, Zelenski is then expected to grovel on the stained carpet in thanks for having its assets stolen and surrender agreed without him being in the room.

Since when did you treat any guest like that? They knew he was under pressure and hoped he’d take the bait and so he did. I thought Zelenski was quite restrained and actually showed dignity in the face of provocation. I’d have told Vance to f himself.

With US support for Trump and Putin, America really is a bona fide pariah state. It rats on its friends, sees right in any wrong as long as it’s American first and should never be trusted again regardless of who the next president is.

Some fatugly Senator was banging on about how proud he was of Trump and that Zelenski should be replaced. And there you have it. A Putin stooge in, a rigged vote and the carve up to follow.

Trump’s reporter goons even had the gaul to question why Zelensky wasn’t wearing a suit and said it cheapened the Oval Office.

Musk of course does not wear a suit…

I mean WTF while they questions him on his suit people are dying, you can just see the disgust in Zelenskyys face.

Utterly ridiculous.

His answer was quite good though.

Admittedly only reading updates from the BBC but it doesn't look like Fox News went too hard on Zelenskyy which is interesting, considering they're the Republican's mouthpiece. Almost as though they're not comfortable fully supporting Trump. Of course, I haven't seen what the talking heads have said afterwards...

Why was Vance even in the room? He is not the President. Never been to Ukraine. Loathes Zelenski so there was no reason for him to be there, let alone piling in.

Gabriel Gatehouse on BBC2's Newsnight called it "a planned mugging" ie set up in advance. Also described the USA now as "a rogue state".

That TV presser was like tag-team wrestling - Zelensky being told to say "thank you", but every time he tried or started to, he was interrupted/talked across/ drowned out by one of the American bullies.

It's time our so called leaders in the west rowed in behind Zelensky and tell Trump where he stands. The gloves are off

I agree with that. A lot has changed in 24 hours. Starmer and Macron’s efforts were fine at the time, but after today that’s all changed.

The mask is completely off. Trump and his merry men, one wearing eye shadow, have joined the autocrats. The concept of democracy is dead in America. Yesterdays news.

Where once they saw themselves as upholders of democracy and western ‘values’, they now see the world as a business opportunity. Something to carve up with like minded friends. Might is everything. If you want it, take it. Bully, abuse, cheat, it’s all ok.

It’s noticeable with the little things like who can attend press conferences, the witch-hunt against those the new dictator thinks wronged him, the lies, the unappointed man deciding the fate of 1000s of Americans and blinding its institutions. It sees its friends in Moscow as like minded and no threat.

Trusting Putin in the brave new world Trump, just sees the deal. Jam today. But like the disease they are, Russian interference will grow behind his back.

Land of the free? Yes providing you are a follower of the leader and have millions of dollars. The rest? Fodder. America First? Trump and friends first. The rest? Who cares. Make America Great Again? They are doing precisely the opposite.

You are right. The gloves are off. Time to get off the fence Starmer, starting with building proper relations with Europe and friends around the world including Canada.

That was a painful watch. I just do not understand how people can watch something like that and come away thinking that Trump and Vance are in the right, especially the way they act.

Spend a week watching Fox News 24/7 and you will begin to understand.

100% agree. If I was an American citizen, I’d be really concerned that Trump and Vance defend, trust and respect Putin so much. Let’s hope that doesn’t come back to bite them firmly on the backside.

If you are an American, you adore Trump, his henchmen and every word they say. Newsnight was interesting. The former Ambassador to Denmark parroted the Trumpian vision, every lie squeezed in. The sad sack of a senator outside the White House? The same. The biggest lie is that Trump wants peace. He’s not the least interested in that. All he actually wants is the plunder. I wish he’d be honest about it.

The bizarre view of the not many Americans who give a hoot reflects this. Ok, people like to believe in the GOAT President. However at any level the hectoring and bullying of those two extortionists was sickening. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything like it. At least when Benes (Czech leader 1938) was bullied it was behind the scenes in another room. It reminded me of Hitler’s judge Roland Freisler tormenting ‘defendants’ in the NAZI show trials.

Got a bit lost when that woman claimed Biden started it. Bearing in mind poor old Joe even then kept falling over I had no idea he was that agile. Maybe he was and it was American missiles and tanks that piled into Ukraine three years ago while Putin waited patiently reading the Beezer.

Penny Mordaunt tried to play Thursdays game on Friday. She was right about the need for Europe to take defence/hard power seriously right here right now, but was wrong about America. They are not this or any other country’s friend or ally apart from N Korea and Russia.

The transatlantic alliance is stone dead. Know your enemy.

I'd say about half of America hates Trump. At least, half the voting part do. The other half would gladly accept a sh*t sandwich from him and ask for seconds.

You are probably right, but I expect the proportion that dislike Trump will diminish as they get more hold on media and muzzle opposition. Already, six weeks in, if you are a Tass journalist you can get in the Oval Office. If you are a media outlet perceived as hostile, you don’t. Trump is controlling the narrative as he is all the levers of power and is moving fast to sideline and crush opposition.

Facts are utterly irrelevant in Trump’s America. Greed, money, lies and hard power is the only currency.

An interesting little quote from a CNN article:

‘There are no good choices ahead, no sure bets. Yet one thing is comforting since I came back to Kyiv. Europe’s security – after three daunting weeks of the Trump administration questioning democracy and alliances across the continent – may seem in crisis from the comfortable perspective in London, or Paris, or Munich. Somehow in Kyiv after three years, the doubts feel lighter. Waves of drones come nightly here, yet the city adapts, the people endure, the lights stay on.

This resilience makes Zelensky’s bristling at being lectured by Vance on his nation’s sacrifice and peril easier to understand. As one Ukrainian civilian summarized it last night: “Dignity is also a value. If Russia cannot destroy it, why does the US think it can?”
