We’re pushing hard for Oli McBurnie 16:31 - Jul 30 with 10901 viewsSitfcB

According to Nixon.

Ipswich push hard for McBurnie

By Alan Nixon

Ipswich Town are pushing hard to win the race for striker
Oli McBurnie - ahead a pack of rivals.

The relegated Tractor Boys have come on strong for free
agent McBurnie after lining up the sale of Nathan
Broadhead to Wrexham.

McBurnie has already been in talks with old clubs
Swansea and Sheffield United as well as Hull City.

Ipswich may offer the best footballing chance for him as
the Scot looks to join a promotion chasing outfit.

Kieran McKenna is trying to put a squad together to go
straight back up and the target man with a prove record
is a priority.

Spanish clubs are also keen on McBurnie after a year
with Las Palmas but Ipswich are emerging as favourites.

Putting aside character issues he’d be a really good signing for how he plays and how that fits in with our squad and we want from a CF.

Alleged assaults and drink driving convictions.

We got James Norwood out of the club for far less.

whatever list it is needs to be put under Ashtons nose for urgent attention. A striker was genuinely the first bit of business i thought we would have done considering we were known to be 1 short of where we wanted to be last season and Delap is now gone.

Starting to believe Al Hamadi is the genuine third option and I just dont see him as being good enough for the direction we want to travel.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Does he? 44 goals in 125 games at Championship level but 22 of those came in one very good season for Swansea the best part of a decade ago. Takes those away and it's pretty slim pickings from him. He's a unit and puts himself about but I've never really rated him and, and I can't stress this enough, he is an absolutely cockend.

…at the minute he is second option.

Thing is we all know Hirst will be out for a month or two at some point in the season, unfortunately.

We need two strikers in and two in quick.

Had a 15 goal season in 22/23 that you glossed over and 6 in an awful Blades side at PL level, so he has had decent seasons in front of goal yes. That would suggest in a good attacking team he could be a viable option as back up.

You can hate him (I don't know a lot about him tbh) but your footballing description seems to be a bit born out of your dislike for the guy to me.

Had a no goals in 28 games in the Championship a few seasons ago as well that you glossed over. Only managed 3 goals last season. 68 league goals in 292 league games across his career is hardly prolific, worse than 1 in 4. He doesn't have Hirst's all round game to compensate for the relative lack of goals either. Even if he wasn't a dickhead, he's not someone I'd hope we'd be in for.

With the resources we have now, I think we can do better than him. Also no point inheriting an issue with a "problem/difficult" player when we don't have to.

Why do people act like we didn’t willingly sign Brandon Williams about a week after his driving incident happened?

Hirst has 7 goals in 67 at championship level so McBurnie has a much better goalscoring record even taking out his highest scoring season. I'm only making that point as Hirst is ideal for how we play and McBurnie can play that role very well as well. As Joe said above he would fit how we play and be a good replacement for Hirst off the bench and if Hirst got a knock etc.

I hope we don't sign him but it's not for footballing reasons.
