Are we going to get this all season now?

Yes, all 3 of the promoted teams are doing better than last seasons promoted teams. Well done them.

Should everyone involved with ITFC just be sacked? Gamechanger sell to someone else? All us Ipswich fans go and support Naarwich for a season as a collective punishment?

It's done, finished. We had 2 great seasons, then a sh1t one, let's just move on and hope this season works out as expected, eh?

Hate the word, but that’s quite the snowflake reaction. Hardly unreasonable to compare and contrast our fortunes as a promoted club to others in that position.

You’ll be calling people woke next, Illy.

Agreed though. And hopefully we are back in the situation next summer of preparing for the step up again, and we do it a lot better then last time.

7th is decent, to be fair though when you look at their fixtures so far they’ve played West Ham, Burnley, Brentford, Palace and Villa. Four of those sit in the bottom Five currently.
They’ve yet to play anyone of serious quality. They’ve got a very tough December, by the turn of the year, I’d predict them in the bottom Six and relegated after finishing with Man U, Everton and Chelsea.

If it’s any help they spent shed loads. About 50% more than us over both transfer windows in fees, but I’ve no idea about wages/bonuses/agent fees and all that extra stuff. Although as others have said, it’s the players they bought it who are doing well for them (under the guidance of the coach/manager of course). They’ve got off to a decent start and seem to have found some decent players.

If there’s one major flaw with us over the last couple of years it’s recruitment. But we know that and so does the club.

It’s not so much about how much they’ve spent it’s the quality of player they’ve brought in.

Fair play, they’ve done it right.

They should be more than ok this season.

I mean it does matter in that you don't get quality for cheap but I know what you mean.

They have spent more than us but I think the critical thing is more that they have built on a. Ore stable base having built year on year in the champ and based on signing young potential.

We have that opportunity now if we go up this or next season.

The way the promoted sides have started they are really giving it a go. A great result for Leeds at Wolves on Saturday too. We need the promoted sides to do better than the last two seasons.

Equally Wolves are giving getting relegated a better go than last season (and they gave it a pretty good go until Christmas last time).

Why was that then?

Balls. Not typing that all in again.

In short lots of reasons. Inexperienced players, mixed recruitment, lack of physicality, manager still learning, injuries, loan signings not paying off, lack of depth, quality of opposition. Etc. etc

Even after the bad trilogy of West Ham, Everton and Brentford, we recovered with a referee assisted draw against Leicester, beating Spurs, then our best home performance of the season against Manchester United. We weren't really out of games after then, Newcastle aside, until Manchester City at home, and we never recovered after that.

Ir went beyond that. 2 wins over Chelsea and the the ultimate sliding doors moment when Jack Clarke hit the post at Fulham who then scored from the same passage of play to draw 2-2.

I think ultimately our January window was poor and in the end relied too much on Morsy who in reality did not have the legs for the premier league.

Sunderland had set up their European scouting network 4 years ago. To that end their overall recruitment strategy, that ultimately wasn't without criticism until they hit the play off jackpot, is at a level beyond that of Ipswich.

I felt all last season that if Sunderland made it up they may have been able to recruit well and make a better fist of the premier league than Ipswich.

Having said all of that and despite a great start Sunderland currently do not have the depth of squad to suffer a major injury crisis and needless red card suspensions.

Yep. The dismals want everyone out. Gamechanger right down to the mascots. Our players are all garbage and deserve abuse week in week out. McKenna out. Knows nothing and besides, the pink faced excitement of bringing in the next manager is great. Just like your own private transfer deadline day on Sky, yellow ties and all.

This will carry on through this season and next even if we start getting results. Boooo, booo. Sunderland and Leeds are doing it. Why couldn’t we? Get em all out and bring in …..Carlos Anybody

Back in my world, well done Sunderland and Leeds. Making a real fist of it and deserve credit. I thought they’d get relegated by a mile. I’m especially pleased for my mackem mate who is dealing with cancer, age 59, at the moment. Now there is something to worry about and that’s just one reason why my patience with the bedwetters on here has worn thin. I wish Sunderland well, not least for him and my other NE chum.

I suspect one at least maybe two of the promoted teams will survive. Long way to go.

Yep. That post rebound really was a nail in the coffin. We really dug in and produced a great display in that game against a very good Fulham side.

Poor Leif just couldn't get back in after another long busting run forward with Clarke.

We really didn't disgrace ourselves last season. Should have beaten Villa and United at home to get us off mark earlier.

Leeds aren’t doing too badly either …

Even Burnley fighting well.

Nine straight home defeats for us looks even more disappointing now …

At least their manager will be higher on the list than KM if any 'big' Prem jobs arise.

How is that a good thing.

McKenna 2 home wins in 14 months? Worst record in professional football this year. Having spent £200 million:

Which elite owner did you think will be salivating? Jim Ratcliffe isn’t even that devoid of football knowledge.

He won’t be here in 3 mk the time.., and if he doesn’t take a team up, he’ll never mange at that level again.

Stinking the place out will do that .., you really are deluded tbh king 44 games is a blip. Clearly the leadership group he has when he arrived deserved FAR more credit than we ever gave them.

We can’t keep selling the entire squad every 12 months when they lose faith in McKenna - doesn’t really work does it.., as a strategy.

Maybe you shouldn’t have put your entire self esteem in him.., good coach.., average manager.

Even Duncan, Hirst Lambert etc never spent £200 million to be this bad, and never had this quality to work with.

Worst manager we’ e had in decades relative to resources received.., Mick achieved more than this group with £2.87 to spend.

Imagine what an actual elite manager could do with £200 million .., see Sunderland .., Wolves.., Bournemouth.., Leeds.., Burnley .., Brighton.., Brentford.

He’s light years away from that level. The nodding dogs have their egos invested in ONE MAN instead of our great club.

That’s PISS POOR. The club is bigger.

Can't believe nobody so far in this thread has mentioned how kind their fixtures have been. Worst West Ham team in years, fellow promoted team, worst Brentford team in years, depleted palace, and worst Villa team in years.

We played Liverpool and Man City back to back FFS.

It wasn't the Liverpool and Manchester City away games which knocked us to start with. It was the abysmal performances against West Ham and Everton, followed by throwing away a two goal lead at Brentford.

Fine, but they've won 2 from 5.

We won 4 from 38.

I'm really not sure that the order of our matches was the problem...

Bought in a lot of players and seem to be doing well.

Have had a bit of luck on their side which we got not much last season.

Late goals in a few games now. I don't mind them staying, I hope 1 or more do of the promoted teams. However, lets not go too early on this. Not played any of the big boys yet. At some point they're going get a run of game vs teams they should have not a lot of a chance against. Lets see how they get on through that and beyond.

If it’s an observation yes agreed. If we are looking to compare, let’s wait a while longer. We all know there are a lot of differences in the state in which clubs arrive in the PL. Sunderland and ITFC paths diverged when we were in L1, they had additional time as a group in the champ. They learnt lessons from our buy top English talent but all of this is a long game not only this season but into the next 3-5 years. Good luck to any club that gets out of the ball pit champ and survives the PL madness!
