We've already signed his replacement

Not about being specifically his replacement, but we won't let a senior player leave without being confident of another coming in. There is a 25 man squad limit, we'll want to have 25 not 24 at the end of the window.

Think people are going to be disappointed with the fee.

I'm going for 4 million tops.

If we’re getting £4 million for you, just wonder what we could get for Szmodics…

If true not in the least bit surprised. There were rumblings of a bit of a bust up between KM and SS a week or two ago. Not sure that was true, but given his form and injuries if a few mill is forthcoming it would suit all parties.
KM did say when questioned that they were trying to bring players in and that there would be some outs also.

I would say it is completely down to football reasons and rumours of a bust up are utter nonsense.

Gonna go into the remainder of the season with 24 players instead of 25 are we?

I like it. Ballsy move.

We can still bring in out of contract, free agents after the window closes. Apparently Raheem Sterling's contract termination discussions with Chelsea won't conclude until after the window closes 🤔

No! Town have turned down the bid. Your down arrows stay until such time as any deal is concluded. At that point Gav will consult VAR.

Turned down with “get closer to our price” rather than “he’s not for sale”

That is essentially where it is, the clubs are discussing a price. Not sure there's been an actual formal bid to be turned down, just Derby have said we want to pay this, £3.something million, something like that, Town saying, no we want quite a lot more than that. Will probably end up as circa £4.5m, plus extras.

You would have to say £4.5m wouldn't be a bad price given his age. Half what we paid of course and one we would have to chalk down in the bad buy column, but damage limitation wise that's probably the best we could hope for.

Signed a 4 year deal here too so from an accounting point of view it is more like a £1m loss rather than a £4.5m loss in this year's accounts should we sell him for £4.5m. In the bad buy column but not a terrible buy from a financial perspective.

30 years old, doesn't really fit in the team and missed 29 of last 46 league games through injury or illness, on a big contract.

Getting shot and recovering a fee is good business; but a shame as we all know how good he can be and was excellent off that left hand side last season, especially away from home

Ooof. We're going to take a risk that someone of good quality is available and will come to us.
Even ballsier. Ashton is going rogue.

By the way. You can only sign players outside the window if their contract was terminated before the end of the window. Hence why Morsy couldn't sign for anyone until just.

I thought he was also good in the No.10 role when he came on as a sub in a couple of recent games. Not so good at Sheffield but then again who was?

The other thing I think he offers is a bit of physicality, something rather lacking in our team.

But age probably comes into it, and he is probably not one for the future.

Still, I think I'll be a little sad if he goes.

Remember all the hype when he signed? Chasing him all summer, he reckoned it was the dream move, we thought we’d bagged a reliable goalscorer.

I like his energy and attitude, but his move hasn’t lived up to expectations has it.

Not only that, we have to have an available squad spot open too, and I don't see us allowing the window to close with less than 25 that are to be registered.

That's a healthy way of looking at it. We've in effect paid roughly £3.5m + wages for his services to date. Remaining payments then settled in favour of a roughly £1m loss at this point in the contract, should we get Derby to where we want them.

It is a shame but also he fits a system that we've never played under McKenna, so to me its still a bit of a head scratcher why we bought him. He wasn't a 'panic buy' either, we chased him for ages. I would be really interested to know what role we had him earmarked for in a McKenna system.
