On Tuesday morning, Ipswich declined to comment on the record, although a club source said Farage was not formally invited to attend Portman Road.
They say it was a private tour — booked through Portman Road Events — and they had no knowledge at the time of booking that it was for the leader of Reform.
The same source stressed that there was no official club involvement, nor was he there to meet a senior official during his visit, which they said lasted around 30 minutes. That version of events was reported by other sections of the UK media.
But evidence provided by a Reform source contradicts this version. The Athletic has seen a message sent by an associate of a senior club figure to a Reform official asking for a meeting with Farage during his visit to the town.

F#ck me your true colours are really showing today!
why is that showing colours? pointing out that a very small minority of town fans feel as strongly about this as the group who have been posting on here. twtd posters are not representative of wider opinion. do you now know that?
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

It will have financial ramifications won’t it? Maybe not sponsors pulling out immediately, but it absolutely weakens our position for future sponsorship, transfers, shirt production, everything. I can’t imagine Halo, MSC, Umbro, Ed Sheeran etc. want to be associated with this and the same will go for future deals
Which is why I’m convinced Ashton wasn’t aware.
There is no way he’d have let this happen as he’d have been all to aware of the ramifications.

neither here or town social media are terribly representative of very much at all in truth. active posters are very small and untypical minority. if you start to believe that twtd is just an ordinary slice of public opinion you'll end up with a very distorted view of the world.
Yeah but what do you think, you know at your core?
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
I think local press, including TWTD, were rubbish in not pushing the club further. Thee is little point in local media if its not brave enough to challenge obvious lying from the club to the fans.

is there any evidence that this is a "very small minority of town fans"?

I despise everything Farage stands for, but seriously doubt there will be any financial fallout from this. It will be completely forgotten by anyone outside of our small bubble within two weeks. It’s just not really that newsworthy, however uncomfortable we might feel with the implied association.

Proper investigative journalism is bordering on extinction.
Most local news sites are just clickbait ad farms now, regurgitating slop.

i think the club shouldn't host any politicians. i also think that they should attach conditions to their tours that photos and videos can't be used commercially or for political purposes. but they don't seem to have adopted either policy. i don't think they can ban farage if they aren't banning starmer, badenoch, or the weird breast whisperer. i don't think the vast majority of town fans care about it much more than that.

The days of TWTD being the independent voice of the fans, rather than a pseudo official club mouthpiece, are long gone. They rely on inside connections and by being brave enough to step out of the official line they risk being sanctioned and having access removed.

I don't blame twtd
Eadt however is imo a different ball game, it's the local paper. IT should be hot on this especially being fed rubbish this morning and being seen to be helping to defend the club.

It would be almost inconceivable the club would roll out the red carpet, as now seems to be the case, for potentially the next UK prime minister and Ashton wasn’t aware.
Nash apparently greeted him as he got out of his car like a long lost friend.
Have heard anecdotally there was also a lunch (allegedly)
Pie in the sky talk imo that the CEO wasn’t aware.

Well I cancelled TownTV so they are at least £6 down.

I rarely post on here these days, and I am far from a leftist loony, but trust me... in my wider circle off this board it is definitely not a "very small minority", and that is coming from folk of all political persuasion.
...but do signatures really work?

To us, Ipswich town are absolutely massive. But in reality it’s an organisation of c.200 people. If you think in a business of that size, a visit from the UK’s most high profile far right politician doesn’t go across the CEOs desk then you my friend, are an ostrich.

A visit yes, he’d have been aware.
But there is no way he’d have let it happen if he’d have known reform would’ve been plastering all over their socials today etc etc

I think you're right with your last sentence.
Either they've been on board all along, or there's going to be a very uncomfortable conversation to be had regarding this morning's 'no official involvement' BS.
Not saying they do or don't but in my experience a lot of people with or involved in money at these levels in the US historically lean Republican. However, they will also be savvy business operators and you would assume wouldn't want to piss off a lot it's it's customer base or put future sponsorship deals at risk (which I guess this might).

Yep fair. I wouldn’t want to be Marcus Nash tonight…. Poor guy.
Yeh because Marcus Nash is the real victim here. Not the people whose vehicles were blown up outside their homes on Sunday night, and then had to listen to Farage's mob call them "cosplayers". Those are the guys Nash and crew promoted the next day in our club. But someone please spare a moment to think of poor Marcus Nash.
