| A message from Mark Ashton on 20:44 - Mar 27 by HampBlue | Does it occur to you that maybe he was not actually aware of the PR video reform were making? Or someone else made the decision? There’s plenty of times at work where I include myself in a “we” statement to take responsibility even though it wasn’t actually me. |
Hello sir - are you interested in buying some magic beans?

| A message from Mark Ashton on 20:49 - Mar 27 by itfcsuth | He literally said he apologised for the hurt caused to stakeholders, the lies that were fed as a cover up were a horrendous look, will take a monstrous effort to build them bridges again. He doesn’t need to apologise for engaging with a leading political figure in the country, near all football clubs do it, and need to do it. People were offended that it was Farage based on their own personal opinions, but that’s their own individual problem, that’s not Ashtons problem. |
Ahhh, you're a reform type. Gotcha. Your weird distain for Philogene is starting to make more sense.

IT'S BECAUSE HE LIED, NOT BECAUSE OF WHO IT WAS" *Although that definitely doesn't help |
Not sure that is correct. Because there was an interim period of 24-48 hours from the supporters being aware Farage was at the stadium to the lies being revealed - and if my memory is correct there was already outrage from part of the fanbase before any alleged lies came to light. That just made the outrage go to a new level.

I'd imagine that when a lot of people found out Reform were at Portman road they were confused, disappointed. Then the reform video emerged and it turned to anger but probably more aimed at reform for seemingly mugging us off. Obviously things have developed since then and so has the feeling of a lot of supporters Don't think anyone was calling for Ashton's head in the first 24 hours. If so it was very very few people. Probably those from the furthest of the far woke
| A message from Mark Ashton on 21:32 - Mar 27 with 868 views | grow_our_own | Forgiveness starts by admitting your sins. Most major religions have a confessional sacrament for this reason. It's a process as old as time. Ashton has admitted nothing and without confession, there can be no forgiveness. He's only sorry because it made us unhappy, not because he actually thinks he did anything wrong. We're emotionally fragile, and Ashton is sorry to have triggered us. Condescending in the extreme. I want to hear him say what he's sorry for, that he'll never take a job working for Reform in any capacity. But most of all I want to hear him say he'll resign. Every time we receive fascist chants from oppo supporters, which will be often, we should call for Ashton out. There can be no closure while Ashton is still in post. This only goes away with him. | A message from Mark Ashton on 21:16 - Mar 27 by budgiebasher | Not a genuine apology, just a vacuous apology delivered through gritted teeth because it was needed for him to keep his job. Behind the camera I think he has disdain for us plebs. It will be interesting how he treats those who have dared to expose him, like Blue Action and Mark Heath. |

I hope one of the "lessons learned" is that combining the CEO and Chairman roles is a recipe for disaster. It is universally regarded as bad practice in business and and it's mysterious that it has been condoned here by a group of successful US businessmen. Those calling for Ashton's head should remember that the Chairman has a casting vote on any Board proposal to suspend/sack the CEO.

I would have thought the purpose of the club being "apolitical" is that you're supposed to avoid doing (any) political things that annoy (any) people on a political basis? "You're only annoyed because the politician we invited annoys you" is surely to miss the point! [Post edited 27 Mar 21:37]

| A message from Mark Ashton on 20:56 - Mar 27 by bartyg | He doesn't apologise or come clean for lying, in fact he says "I also understand that there are a number of mistruths out there on what's actually happened this week." In tandem with the club claiming mistruths in the Athletic article it sounds like he's calling the reporting false, in which case why hasn't come clean with the truth? |
He’s come out and said what he’s needed to say, he’s apologised and taken responsibility. If you aren’t satisfied with the specific wording then that’s on you I’m afraid. I don’t particularly care what he says, because I’d take it with a pinch of salt regardless.
| A message from Mark Ashton on 21:37 - Mar 27 with 798 views | itfc_statman | In true Ipswich fashion, our CEO can: - Invite a racist to the club - give said racist the red carpet treatment - allow racist to use the club and its status as a marketing tool - lie to the entire fanbase - make the club a laughing stock amongst the rest of football And upon issuing a half apology written by a media apprentice, most on here are now happy to move on. You couldn't make it up. | | | |

No Mark, you were the perpetrator of all this. You need to say ‘I’m sorry that I haven’t been transparent enough, I sorry for the obfuscation and I’m sorry that my actions and words have brought discredit to this great club, the players, staff and fans. I’ve hurt a lot of people and I’m sorry for that and will be working with the board to make sure that I don’t make the same mistakes again.” Stop saying we and say I!

| A message from Mark Ashton on 22:04 - Mar 27 with 615 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Stuns me how little people care about accountability. Mark Ashton is the Chairman of Ipswich Town. He is extremely well paid. In the last week he has allowed the clubs brand to be used by a political party as a campaign tool, then lied about it to the media and the fans of the club he represents, gone radio silent whilst the world news reports on it and then come out with an apology where he doesn't apologise for anything. Yet people lap it up. Troubling times. | |

Honestly what do you expect? This is standard CEO corporate speak and politicians do even less than this to twist out of their constant lies and get voted in regardless. Calling him a dhead isn’t a great look despite anything, but it would be at least good to acknowledge where this club was when he took over compared to where it is now. He might have faults but he’s not that.

Yep, you’re right, two things have been conflated 1. Outrage that the club hosted Farage. Some completely flipped at that. Personally, I didn’t like it but was a bit sanguine. 2. The Club, Ashton, then put out false stories and doubled down in lying. I drew the line at that. That was too much for me.

It doesn’t mean anything - it’s just a word people like this use for things they don’t like because they are incapable of coming up with a reasoned argument to support their views. There’s been a lot of it in the last few days on here and it’s continuing.
