He literally said he apologised for the hurt caused to stakeholders, the lies that were fed as a cover up were a horrendous look, will take a monstrous effort to build them bridges again.
He doesn’t need to apologise for engaging with a leading political figure in the country, near all football clubs do it, and need to do it.

I'd imagine that when a lot of people found out Reform were at Portman road they were confused, disappointed. Then the reform video emerged and it turned to anger but probably more aimed at reform for seemingly mugging us off. Obviously things have developed since then and so has the feeling of a lot of supporters

Forgiveness starts by admitting your sins. Most major religions have a confessional sacrament for this reason. It's a process as old as time. Ashton has admitted nothing and without confession, there can be no forgiveness.
He's only sorry because it made us unhappy, not because he actually thinks he did anything wrong. We're emotionally fragile, and Ashton is sorry to have triggered us. Condescending in the extreme.
I want to hear him say what he's sorry for, that he'll never take a job working for Reform in any capacity. But most of all I want to hear him say he'll resign.

I would have thought the purpose of the club being "apolitical" is that you're supposed to avoid doing (any) political things that annoy (any) people on a political basis?

Yep, you’re right, two things have been conflated
1. Outrage that the club hosted Farage. Some completely flipped at that. Personally, I didn’t like it but was a bit sanguine.
2. The Club, Ashton, then put out false stories and doubled down in lying. I drew the line at that. That was too much for me. | |
