Shock.

People have asked him to say sorry, he says sorry and it’s not good enough.

He’s made a awful mistake, he’s now owning it (He should of since the beginning) But lets now move on.

It dosn’t have to be so black and white like the political argument is these days. It is possible to be disappointed AND want to move on.

He’s done a lot for this club, people are quick to forget what was before him.

He hasn’t owned anything.

He apologised for how people feel and it’s all ‘we’. HE messed up and HE lied about it. Yet people lap up that nonsense ‘apology’.

He’s a coward.

I think it’ll be a soft exit which will see him go in the summer, when the timing is a bit more right.

What will we do without his amazing player recruitment.

I don’t particularly trust too much he says, but I also don’t particularly care. He’s made his apology, time to move on.

I care about McKenna, and the members of the squad that have so much to play for heading into the final stage of the season, and deserve nothing but our full support for the crux.

Honestly feels like an astroturfing campaign. Seems like a hell of a lot of people were ready to "accept the apology and move on" in barely the time it took to even watch the video and an equal number of usernames I don't recognise trotting out the "woke, far-left" cliches. Who knows though, maybe I give people too much credit and that really does reflect the fanbase.

It's not woke or far left. It's far woke now, and I'm here for it!

This is rubbish. Sorry for the ‘hurt and pain’ is definitively not ‘sorry for what I did’. Who has to learn? ‘The club’ not ‘me’. It’s corporate nonsense.

Surely he should have said he apologises to SOME of our fan base as there are lots of it who don’t think he has to apologise? Obviously whatever he says won’t be good enough for the far woke on here

Err none don’t actually have a drive way as I live in a good old working class terraced house. Nice to see stereotyping is going strong on here though

What do you mean by 'far woke'? I've not heard that expression before.

Depends on the americans' politics maybe. If they are pro-trump, they will be wondering what all the fuss is about.

There you go.

If that doesn’t put a line under it and allow us to all move forward as one, nothing will.

Uppa Towen.

An apology that doesn't give one detail of what he's apologising for?

Does sfa, he even put it on to the board ref the policy on political stuff as if he needed a policy to know that allowing Farage to use Portman Rd for a PR exercise is a bad idea.

Incompetent, dishonest and lacking integrity....saw nothing to make me think I got that description wrong.

Does it occur to you that maybe he was not actually aware of the PR video reform were making?

Or someone else made the decision?

There’s plenty of times at work where I include myself in a “we” statement to take responsibility even though it wasn’t actually me.

I'm sorry we got caught.
I'm sorry some media companies are doing their jobs well.
I'm sorry you got upset.

I'm not sorry for inviting a leader of a political party to the club and allowing them to use the club to amplify their message. I'm not sorry for giving the personalised shirts. I'm not sorry that I lied when we got found out. Im mot sorry that my first or second apology wasn't good enough. I'm not sorry for hoping that this just goes away if i don't say anything.

He literally said he apologised for the hurt caused to stakeholders, the lies that were fed as a cover up were a horrendous look, will take a monstrous effort to build them bridges again.

He doesn’t need to apologise for engaging with a leading political figure in the country, near all football clubs do it, and need to do it.

People were offended that it was Farage based on their own personal opinions, but that’s their own individual problem, that’s not Ashtons problem.

He doesn't apologise or come clean for lying, in fact he says "I also understand that there are a number of mistruths out there on what's actually happened this week."

In tandem with the club claiming mistruths in the Athletic article it sounds like he's calling the reporting false, in which case why hasn't come clean with the truth?

There *are* a number of mistruths out there. The original briefing was full of them, as was the statement released by the club.

I would have really loved to accept his apology. I am not getting into the politics of this and my personal thoughts but what happened has had a reflection on our club and made it the ridicule of the league at possibly the most important time of the season.

It was/is obvious that what happened couldn’t happen without senior sign off (and if did then we would see robust actions and communication). What we’ve had is a half hearted apology for the cameras which didn’t address anything specific other than ‘feelings’.

It sounded like a break up, ‘it’s not you it’s me’, or inappropriate joke, ‘well if you’re offended it’s how you’ve taken it’, angle. Neither of which address any accountability for me from senior members who take credit when it’s due but should also then address directly issues when the occur (and appear to be directly cussed by them).

Regardless of the reason for this issue, I personally don’t appreciate being lied to or taken for a mug.

Funny how he uses ‘chairman’ when it suits, rather than CEO.

‘We’. Brilliant.

No, "woke" has a specific meaning. To be awake to inequality and aware of others, to have empathy and awareness. I, for one, think these are good things across any community, and so "far woke" seems really fab.

It has been quite eye-opening to note how many of our supporters (and presumably by extension society) are so subservient to those with a bit of power. I can start to see why they get away with so much so easily.

Not a genuine apology, just a vacuous apology delivered through gritted teeth because it was needed for him to keep his job. Behind the camera I think he has disdain for us plebs. It will be interesting how he treats those who have dared to expose him, like Blue Action and Mark Heath.
