He apologised several times. Not sure what people want. It is time to move on.

A sizeable proportion of the population do not care at all about integrity, and are happy to be lied to constantly. It's really disconcerting.

Absolutely.

I would like our club to run by a man with integrity. Guess that makes me woke and a snowflake. Scary times.

What is he apologising for? What happened, how it happened, communication or lack of, lying or being caught out? Meh is my reaction to that

Clubs owners are going for the car crash then.

Reckon he's safe, for now.

Still a w@nker imho but my opinion matters not 1 jot in the scheme of things.

Acknowledgment, accountability, explanation, answers to specific questions, and a sense he is answering in a personal capacity not as "Chairman" on behalf of "we" as he said.

“The far woke”

Out of interest, how many flags do you have up in your driveway?

Err none don’t actually have a drive way as I live in a good old working class terraced house. Nice to see stereotyping is going strong on here though

Sorry for the hurt, but not sorry for lying.

Thats not an apology

It was an apology, which is something, but if there are mistruths out there then surely this is the perfect opportunity to correct them? Why would you not do that?

Because he knows as soon as he corrects one of those "mistruths" The Athletic will pop up again and contradict his version. He's hoping he can just "Fake News" his way through it. Seems to be working based on some of these responses

It shouldn't be forgotten, but we need to move on now.

COYBs!

Yep. Its a really heartily delivered nothing of an apology.

Meh.

It's as good as we're going to get though.

It’s not the greatest apology in the world. It’s enough for me for now. It’s going to take a lot more for me to trust him again. However, he has apologised and addressed it.

Some of the apology just doesn’t ring true. Why would the board not have those policies in place already regarding politicians though? The “mistruths” line was a bit ridiculous as it made out that those were not caused by the club.

I don’t care whether he stays or goes. My position is that I support the club and will just put up with that smarmy little man as part of the club but I would not cheer or celebrate him.

Absolute Sherman Tanker

No accountability but there are far more important things to consider at this stage of the season

It’s done but really not forgotten

Be interesting how his presence and profile are now up until the end of the season

For me he can stay …until the end of the season and then fck off

You think TWTD is bad, wait until you see the comments by the Ashton lovers on X and Facebook. Beggars belief

Shock.

People have asked him to say sorry, he says sorry and it’s not good enough.

He’s made a awful mistake, he’s now owning it (He should of since the beginning) But lets now move on.

It dosn’t have to be so black and white like the political argument is these days. It is possible to be disappointed AND want to move on.

He’s done a lot for this club, people are quick to forget what was before him.

....getting rid of him in the summer, I think he's a massive twanger.

Doing it now would just be counterproductive and potentially have a negative effect on the rest of the season.

I suspect that could be the owners' thinking. We're only 2 months from the end of season.

If we miss out on promotion I'd wager it's Ashton who gets the bullet before McKenna which could be a result (obs prefer promotion)

There you go.

If that doesn’t put a line under it and allow us to all move forward as one, nothing will.

I think it’ll be a soft exit which will see him go in the summer, when the timing is a bit more right.

If we are better together why invite one of the most divisive people in the country to parade around our club and post it all over social media? Not sure I will ever feel ‘as one’ with someone who thinks that was a good idea whatever the apology.

Honestly feels like an astroturfing campaign. Seems like a hell of a lot of people were ready to "accept the apology and move on" in barely the time it took to even watch the video and an equal number of usernames I don't recognise trotting out the "woke, far-left" cliches. Who knows though, maybe I give people too much credit and that really does reflect the fanbase.

For the millionth time and for those at the back who still keep bringing out the "what if it was Starmer/Badenich/Polanski/Count fecking binface" line...

IT'S BECAUSE HE LIED, NOT BECAUSE OF WHO IT WAS"

*Although that definitely doesn't help

He facilitated the club being used for a publicity stunt for a political party whereas the club states quite clearly it is apolitical and inclusive.
